  1. This is a really exciting development. Kudos to @mbucchiato making it a reality. I thought I'd share the results of some quick tests, which show great promise for DFR going forward but also raises a question or two (but when does anything in DCS not). I've been testing with 35 PPD set in VB, a mix between medium and high settings in DCS and default settings for the new DFR mode. I've been just spawning into two of the Instant Action missions for the AH-64D on the Syria map, waiting for things to settle and observing FPS. Dawn Express Without DFR: ~80 FPS With DFR: ~90 FPS Hot Ramp Start Without DFR: ~70 FPS With DFR: ~60 FPS So the 10% bump in Dawn Express is a very nice addition. But the 10% drop in the Hot Ramp Start is puzzling. DFR does seem to reduce the amount of FPS variance but that's just a subjective call.
  2. I've been using an Evenstrain modded TM Cougar for what seems like forever (19 years?). Are there any modern joysticks that have the same 'constant force at fixed distance' that is the raison d'être for the Evenstrain mod? I've been doing research into options such as the Gunfighter Mk III and Virpil bases but this aspect is never seemingly called out (or else I'm missing the keywords). Are there any worthy successors out there?
  3. In latest release (2.5.6.59625), when you start training mission 19 (Night operations) you have wheel chocks on the aircraft. There is no ground crew to remove them (the ground crew remove chocks radio option gets no reply). It also looks like you start too heavy to do a VTO. This means the mission gets stuck as there is no way to taxi and takeoff.
  4. To fire guns your nozzles also have to be at 29 degrees or less.
  5. Ground handling, at least the take off run, does feel different to me too. It's more like the original release, where it's very sensitive especially at lower speeds. The other thing that I noticed is that the spit enters spins more easily too. Tonight I had three flat spins on the RAF server. Two last night. I've been flying since it came out and the 2.1 version is the first time that I've entered flat spins at all. I don't notice any sort of force feedback warning about the flat spin before I hit it, should there be? The engine also overheats more easily during those climbs chasing pesky 109s. The white smoke signifying the overheat is nice. With all of the above, I'm having to relearn quite a bit and change flying habits that have been in place for 6 months now.
  6. Pretty please, make sure to have the labels mod active on the Normandy mission. All the current MP servers don't have it. They're great for sightseeing but terrible for furballs.
  7. I'm throwing money at my screen. One of the youtube quotes from SuperTurbo RobotNinja: "I'm CTO of the project and a DCS fan, it may go to the simulator market with no throttle\rudder pedals\centered joystick only over my dead body :p"
  8. There's nothing stopping it happening ten times in a row. It's just a roll of the dice after all. All we can do is curse when it happens and count down the days till the new damage model system comes online.
  9. Is there an official or at least ED post about this? I don't know why they didn't just leave the Model Enlargement system active until they had a fully functioning replacement. What's there now is a teeny bit better than the 1.2 days (in that far away contacts are at least a single pixel no matter their distance), but it's still a needle in a haystack simulator on the WWII MP servers unless the server uses the label dot mod.
  10. The Cougar has been at 3.06 for over a decade. I think the last firmware update was in 2003 or 2004. I've never had any issues with it in all that time. I doubt it's the issue. If you want to try anyway, Cougar World is probably your only hope.
  11. I get the same. No model enlargement in 1.5.5.58891.190. None in single player and none on MP server where it is set to be on. No mods active.
  12. Ask in chat once you're in the SB game. Someone will gladly give it out :)
  13. Steel Balls is your best bet on weekday nights. Seems to have around 8+ most nights from 9pm-11pm (sometimes till midnight) EDT. It's a NY server, so you'll get the best ping on that one. ACG and Burning Skies are most populated over the weekend. On a good day you can get two dozen players. Since ACG is in Europe and BS in Russia, they're most active in the afternoon. I'll normally fly between 4pm-7pm EDT. While there are plenty of regulars who will play for a good few hours, you'll often see people coming and going. Team sizes can fluctuate rapidly, although the Axis side will usually have numerical superiority. If flying Allied, be sure to use Teamspeak to pair up as it's the best way to stay alive. Make sure to use TS anyway, as it triples the enjoyment factor. All servers, except Burning Skies I think, have dedicated TS. DoW server is good when it's up too (not seen it much lately). Does larger and longer missions, so make sure you have more time.
