  1. Hello all, So I sold my body to some ugly fat ladies and upgraded my GPU from RTX 2060 Super to an RTX 4080. I also doubled my RAM from 32GB to 64GB. This was all done professionally in a computer shop since I have two left hands and possibly also brain damage or just plain stupid. I flew a quick start mission before upgrading and kept a close eye on my FPS throughout the entire single player mission. FPS was around 40-60 FPS with occasional drops to 25. After the upgrade I was convinced I would see a dramatic difference. I was wrong. I do not see any noticeable difference or perhaps I now also have a problem with my eye sight (good thing I sold my body before the rest fails too). OK, so clearly I must be doing something wrong. I was smart enough though to delete the contents of the fxo and metashaders2 folders in saved games. In fact, it even gave me an erection that I thought of it. Is there any guru out here who could explain to a noob like me the basic steps on how to optimize graphics settings in DCS? I have seen a dozen YouTube videos from really good content creators but it is so much depending on what setups they have and i haven’t found anybody who explains the basic optimization steps, no matter what hardware you have. For example, I started by turning VSYNC and GSYNC OFF and in DCS I did not put a limit on the max FPS (slider all the way to the right) because I want to see what the max FPS is that I can get. Turns out it is just the same as before. I put my monitor refresh rate to 60 because I learned on YouTube what’s the point in increasing that if you can’t deliver the FPS anyway. For the rest I have: Intel i9-9900 RTX 4080 64GB RAM NVME SSD M.2 1TB with DCS on it (C drive) 2 monitors of each 1920x1080 making for a 3840x1080 in DCS with 60 Hz refresh rate Thanks a lot for the help because I clearly feel really depressed. YouTube is full of people running DCS maxed out with incredible graphics and now that I joined the club with an expensive graphics card I do not see much difference.
  2. Hello, I am going to upgrade my graphics card and add RAM. If I remember well there are a certain number of activations in DCS. Do I have to do something with DCS prior to upgrading hardware? And what about settings before launching DCS? Perhaps deleting metashaders2 and fxo folder contents in saved games? Anything else? Thanks
  3. Thanks for clearing that up. And do you need to extend/lengthen the usb cables coming from your devices before they go into the usb hub?
  4. Hi all, Lately I have been trying to understand the lua files inside the MonitorSetup folder. Does anyone know what the variable viewDx does? I discovered something by accident which I did not know was possible. I always thought that with 2 monitors next to eachother if you span your DCS game across both monitors, that the forward view (towards the HUD in cockpit) would be cut in half on the edge between the 2 monitors. This is not true in my following lua file which I found out by accident: My windows main monitor right in front of me (with all desktop icons and start menu) is identified as monitor #1 in windows display settings and it is ticked off as "Make this my main display". My left monitor of the same size is monitor #2 in windows display settings where it is ticked off as "extend these displays". In DCS the main forward cockpit view appears on the main monitor in front of me, while the forward left view appears on the left monitor. It has got to do with the viewDx = -1; setting but I have no clue what this does. See also my 2 screenshots and lua code. Thanks, Hammerhead -- The RIGHT monitor must be the primary monitor in Windows -- Cockpit forward view and DCS menu UI will display on the right monitor and -- Cockpit view left is on the left monitor _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('2Screens'); Description = 'Configuration with 2 identical monitors, each with its own camera' Viewports = { Left = { x = 0; y = 0; width = screen.width / 2; height = screen.height; viewDx = -1; viewDy = 0; aspect = screen.aspect / 2; }, Center = { x = screen.width / 2; y = 0; width = screen.width / 2; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = screen.aspect / 2; }, } UIMainView = Viewports.Center GU_MAIN_VIEWPORT = Viewports.Center
  5. Have you tried the following solution?: release version dcs C:/Users/<Your Username>/Saved Games/DCS/Config/options.lua beta version dcs C:/Users/<Your Username>/Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/Config/options.lua rename that file to options.backup.lua start DCS, it will default the video config for you
  6. Sorry for dropping in here with an incredibly noob-question but I found this through a search: I noticed the cables are neatly tucked away with that chair but I have always wondered how people manage to get their usb cords reach the desktop? Is there something like usb cable extensions or usb boxes? I never find this info on youtube videos where people show their gaming setups, or even complete pit builds. Where do all the usb cables from all the hardware go to? (not only stick and throttle but also ICP, DED, MFD's, other panels...)
  7. I had the same question. I recommend clicking backup just in case instead of deleting. Here was my post: fresh install https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?share_fid=74365&share_tid=269913&share_pid=4653759&url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums%2Eeagle%2Eru%2Findex%2Ephp%3F%2Ftopic%2F269913-fresh-install%2Fpage__view__findpost__p__4653759&share_type=t&link_source=app Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Perhaps that might be an option yes but I have too many issues with this: 1. Are all DCS modules also available on Steam? 2. Can you transfer everything from DCS standalone to Steam without extra purchase or do you need to buy everything again on Steam? 3. Can you then still use the standalone version besides the Steam version as well or are you not allowed to have duplicate licenses, one for the standalone version and one for the Steam version? 4. I've read posts and watched YouTube videos and it seems there is a general preference for non-Steam installs. Even Grim Reapers in one of their videos says to get rid of the Steam version if you have it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. SOLVED - no more extra files after updating DCS OpenBeta I had a support ticket on this as well and they told me to wait for the next update and that all files would be checked. So I have updated to 2.7.0.5659 using Skate Zilla's DCS Updater / Launcher GUI. I then did a REPAIR and ticked the option to search for extra files. It then informed me again of those same extra files and I clicked "Backup". It then removed a few unnecessary files but also 2 modules: A-10C and Ka-50. So I thought, OK this time it didn't delete my terrains which took me ages to re-download a week ago so I started DCS World and re-downloaded those 2 modules which didn't take too long. Exited DCS World after double-checking all modules were there. Finally, I did another REPAIR and also a CLEANUP just to be sure no extra files were found this time. And it didn't find extra files so that's great.
  10. SOLVED! OK apparently according to DCS log file it could not find Windows "Saved Games" folder and then DCS defaults to "My documents\My games" folder instead. So here is the solution if you want to recreate your Windows 10 "Saved Games" folder to the default location in your users folder: Download batch file from following site: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23504-restore-default-location-personal-folders-windows-10-a.html#11 Or create the batch file yourself with following content: Then, if you want you can move this "Saved Games" windows library to another drive by right-clicking and selecting "properties" and then go to the "location" tab.
  11. I found this thread relating to my issue. I did a fresh install as well and copied over my config files and all works fine except that when I want to do a repair/cleanup (using Skate Zilla's DCS Updater / Launcher GUI tool), it tells me "cleanup has found some extra files not belonging to the vanilla game install:" (see attached screenshot) So I clicked "Move to backup" but apparently all these files were the aircraft, tech and terrain modules that I reinstalled in DCS after the fresh install. So now I went back to vanilla install and had to put all these files back. Is there any way to avoid this message?? Thanks
  12. I downloaded and installed DCS World OpenBeta completely from scratch after backing up my game install folder. Started DCS and launched a quickstart mission in the Frogfoot free plane (all my aircraft and terrain and campaign modules have to be reinstalled). Then I did a windows search in my pc searching for any files changed in the last 7 minutes when DCS was running (enter "datemodified: 03/05/2021 18:10 .. 03/05/2021 18:17" in the explorer search bar). I found the save game location!! But WTF, it's in my documents folder! So how did it end up here in "D:\Documents\My Games\DCS.openbeta" instead of "Saved Games"?
  13. Hello, I copied DCS from D to the faster C drive. When starting DCS I noticed all my settings (graphics, snapviews,...) were gone in DCS World. Even when making changes to graphics settings and then launching a quickstart mission and exiting DCS to desktop, the "D:\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\options.lua" file remains unchanged with the old files. Tried deleting "D:\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta" folder after backing it up and restarting a mission in DCS hoping that the folder would populate with new files but no, folder is still empty. I checked C:\users\USERNAME\ but there is no Saved Games folder here either. Also found another folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\DCS.openbeta which is also empty. I did a successful REPAIR and CLEANUP using Skate Zilla's DCS UPDATER UTILITY but still the same results. How can I rebuild the structure from the "Saved Games" folder so that I can overwrite it with my backup config files? Thanks
  14. Hello, I have DCS World installed on my secondary HDD drive since my boot drive (SATA SSD) that contains Windows 10 Home does not have enough space. What would be the best solution if I want to move DCS to the boot SSD to have faster load times etc? Buy a larger SATA SSD or buy a larger PCIe NVME SSD? From what I read on the internet concerning benchmarks, there seems to be almost NO performance gain by going to the PCIe version. Thanks
