  1. In testing this on a breadboard, I think I made a mistake, the LEDs are in series, they are much brighter in parallel. Unfortunately I've already ordered 5 PCBs . I've also tried a 20k resistor and a 5k resistor and the brightness all looks the same to me. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do better?
  2. Hello! I've decided to make a caution light panel for the A-10, I want to build a PCB (because I never have before and it looks fun). Using the worthog project's files I have the LED placement for each diode and also the holes that hold the panel standoffs. I've seen craigs sim put and others mention the MAX7219 and luckily I have a matrix module already. The matrix I want to build is 6x8 (6 cols/8 rows). In testing a random 3mm green LED it's bright on it's own but dim when in series. My question to this lovely forum, is what resistor should I use in the RSET module in the MAX7219? Note: I know very very little about voltage/ohms etc (also being colorblind resistors are a nightmare anyway). Here's a few shots of what I've learned from using easyeda over the past few days... Any help much appreciated!
  3. Looks very nice. How did you build the electronics?
  4. i thought this was just me but i spent about 4 hours with unlimited weapons on doing CCIP releases and they were off each time from every angle...
  5. VR as it's the future of flight sims. I love VR, I gave up on 2d a while back due to the clunkness of feeling like cyborg when I just want to be flying. ED should take note of what people are saying here and invest more in the performance, if they don't have the people to do it, they need to hire them. The vr quality is pretty poor (low res/40fps) but it wasn't possible a few years ago! It's come a long way. 30-45 fps is playable, however I can only use A-G with TGP, when I do a gun run I can't see anything. @Lurker point is very valid, the lens and displays will see some technical advancements in the coming years. I see eye tracking for example being an undeveloped tool for imersion.
  6. your photos are now dead links, please could you reupload if you get the chance?
  7. So we need to have the old DCS to learn on... this is the most complicated system, it's first priority should be making it easy to learn and find information.
  8. They do work fine, you need to turn on windows update. I have Win7 Ultimate 64bit. Note: there is currently an issue with nvidia drivers which conflict with desktop window manager (dwm.exe) but this will be fixed soon
  9. The cost is pretty low to be honest, I worked on a developer license with them before for a very small project and the guys upstairs went with it so I don't think cost would be the issue. Really I just want to get the opinion of the devs on what the process would be to update the UI and what the community or I can do to help for free.
  10. Dear ED, I really like the DCS series and all the work you have put in is incredible. However as a designer by trade the one thing I have to fault you on is the attention to the UI. I have been modding game UI for years, previously in Counter-Strike and the Source Engine by Valve. I assume you have hard coded the UI for the multiplayer menus with C++ and haven't yet written a fast ui engine. I would suggest using Scaleform (http://gameware.autodesk.com/scaleform). It took me a while to adopt it but within a few days you can produce amazing results. It would be great if I could speak with a dev about this or if we can get this looked at by ED. Thanks Ed EDIT: I've got home and had a look at how it's done. Would it be possible to have a scale-able UI in multiplayer?

  12. I thought all the 8" are touchscreen, I know the 7" isn't and I want to fill the whole space. It needs the second to power the screen, one is for the graphics and the other is just power, I'm sure the non touch versions still need two plugs
  13. I don't notice a change really I think its about 30 all the time, I'll check soon and PM you. As for FSX I've notice the frames are terrible with the usb monitors
  14. I've seen a few youtube clips on using these two as a nice little setup and so I ordered a some and I have to say I'm not disappointed :) I'll go through my process and give you some tips and the problems I had and how to fix them. (here is the full album) Lilliput UM-80/C/T - 8" I got mine of amazon I think, they were around £80 each and came to £200 with tax/p&p. No CD was inside and I use Win7 x64, turn on windows update and it will download the drivers and install something called 'DisplayLink manager', windows should automatically detect them and you can move them around with the 'Screen Resolution' desktop right click. When setting them up do not check 'Optimize for Video' as this will give you low res mfds Note: These require 2 USB slots EACH. so buy yourself a cheep USB hub (I got a 7 port hub of ebay for £4) Thrustmaster Cougar MFD Pack I waited 3 weeks for an amazon seller to ship these, and I gave up as they said they still hadn't sent them, I then ordered them from the actual thrustmaster amazon and they arrived the next day! The CD didn't work so you should download the drivers/software from the link below. http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=298&cid=1 Unscrew the bracket with a philips screwdriver and remove the thumbscrew. I then used sellotape to make double sided tape and went around the edges, for a nice finish use a stanley knife and tidy the tape so it doesn't overflow (I made that mistake at first). Attaching them like so... they are very sturdy! USB HUB 4 Monitors (2 each) 2 MFDs 1 TrackIR At this point is a good time to measure your screens and edit your monitor config. In my case I edited from here: H:DCS WorldConfigMonitorSetup And here is my .lua In doing so the MFD dimentions is 560px this fills up the entire mfd, I might size this down by 5/10px. To measure where you want the mfds to go I used PixelWindowApp Download Here Then when everything was setup I took a screencap with PrtScn and pasted into Photoshop. Turn rulers on and drag out to edges then zoom in on the top corners and read the pixel count on the rulers (right click on the rulers and change units to pixels) That should give you everything you need for your .lua. Once I tested it out in the game you might need to move it around a bit but that is pretty standard up/down stuff. Finally I just cut out some black card and covered the rest of the screen to tidy it up. Result Final tip: Uncheck disable aero and use an aero theme in windows. Also if anyone wants the wallpaper I got it from the US Army flickr I think (tried looking can not find it anymore) http://i.imgur.com/46imx.jpg
  15. Yeah they work great, Cougar MFDs arrived this morning and I attached them fine to the displays with sticky tape (might make a thread as a tutorial). The main problem I have now is when I open DCS World every few seconds all the screens goes black (like the monitor has been unpluged and plugged back in), this only happens in DCS World (loader)
  16. that is awesome, although would cost an arm and a leg!
  17. Hello everyone! I've got a couple of USB screens which I hope to add a pair of cougar mfd (when they arrive) but already I have a problem with the screens/game/both. Here is a video of the problem: As you can see when 'in game' the usb screens are sort of paused and unresponsive but when I switch to windows and click the tray icon do they wake up and work normally. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have any suggestions at all? (Windows 7 x64 ~ nVidia 460 GTX 1gb)
