  2. I had the same issue the other day, I had landed with one engine out from enemy fire. Engines were shut down, APU was on at first and rotors had stopped turning and they refused to repair due to engines turning. I Even shut down the APU and tried but no luck. By chance was one of your engines shot out? Could be a bug related to the enging still showing as powered or something.
  3. Ok thanks for the reply, I guess having a flight page up would work well, good suggestion. Basically I can get the helicopter heading in the general direction, get it trimmed up and then as you said switch to TADS to acquire and start to engage. I know it's not real world but I thought man this is as close as I can get to being Rambo from the front seat and it is a fun challenge to juggle flying and tracking at the same time.
  4. Wondering if it's possible to fly from the CP/G seat with the IHADSS flight symbology yet at the same time use the TEDAC unit to slew the TADS around and search/engage targets at the same time? Yes I want the CP/G to be a one man show. So far it only seems if I select TADS the CP/G IHADSS symbology is forced to show the TADS symbology.

  7. Thanks for the info on the mod, the thickness of the lines in the IHADSS bothered me a bit even non-VR but this mod fixes it and it certainly "feels better".

  10. Ok so the lighting engine has changed, I can see that, but is there any suggestions as to how I can get it to not show my AH64D basically black when it's on the shadow side from the sun? It certainly doesn't look realistic at all, it's a step backward and tons of details are lost. Also the AH64D in Olive Drab in the Cuacus winter map is basically all black, no details showing, just a black mass. This can't be the improvement that 2.8 lighting should be? What gamma are people running?
  11. I've been out of the loop for about 2 or 3 months and just patched to beta 2.8 and wondering what exactly changed in the lighting? It seems now the external colors and shadowing is way off, the shadow side of the aircraft is almost totally black and colors seem oversaturated. I messed with Gamma a bit and it helped a little. Mainly working with the AH64 but in the cockpit I was getting all sorts of weird shiny textures and very dark areas as well. I didn't see anything in the past comments on here that really addressed this other than talking about shadows being messed up but that isn't my issue. Maybe this changed a few patches ago and I missed discussion on it?
  12. Fuggzy Thanks for the update on the tape, I think I will try it out myself. The good thing is that if the tape wears out over time you can always reapply with the amount you have to buy. What width did you purchase?
  13. Any update on how this is holding up? I will pull the trigger on the tape if you think it's doing the trick still, tired of the micro striction I get from the pedals and this sounds like the perfect solution. Did you get the 2 inch tape or another size?

I consider myself a fairly decent helicopter sim pilot and relatively competent with all helicopters in the DCS world and in my opinion the last update certainly made me feel like I was much less able to control the helicopter confidently. Controllers can make a world of difference but once the individual gets some competency with their particular setup a change in the flight model will certainly be felt. I know that I had to readjust my curves and saturation again and still felt like the helicopter wasn't nearly as stable as before. I think a basic explanation of what the SAS is actually doing and what parts are a work in progress would go quite far in helping the community understand what is to be expected, until then we are all shooting in the dark. As far as the ATT mode, I found it sometimes held the hover and or pitch attitude solidly and sometimes the helicopter would start to drift and continued into uncontrolled flight without pilot input. Again without knowing exactly how this system should be properly used it's tough to make any contribution that can help with development.
  15. I understand that the SAS has only so much authority, but what I don't understand is exactly what is it trying to "correct"? A couple of times I established myself in a fairly stable hover or descent and when I trim the SAS starts beeping, after about 10 seconds it stops, sometimes this repeats itself eventually stopping. I get the feeling the SAS is fighting me but I'm not sure what it doesn't like. Perhaps I trim the pedals a bit too far in one direction and it wants to counteract this and finds it doesn't have authority and only when I retrim closer to where it thinks they should be displaced it stops the saturation alarm?
  16. Ok so can someone explain the "SAS Saturated" warning that I get sometimes? Usually it happens when I'm descending and slowing down in preparation to hover. I am not inducing any large inputs with any control and it seems more related to the pedal position because after I retrim the a bit the warning usually stops. I'm guessing it's saying it is trying to input some corrections and the corrections are outside of the "window" in the control display and is thus outside of the SAS ability to move the controls as well. As a side note this is without using the ATT HOLD mode, this is just simply flying using the force trim for cyclic and pedals.
  17. After working a bit with the new SAS and AT HOLD it does seem more stable but I am having to work with the new SAS Saturation. Sometimes when entering a hold after re-trimming the tone goes off and I get SAS Saturation and it seems related to the new anti-torque pedal position. Going to take some getting used to the newer feel however it does seem like a step in the right direction so far.
  18. So the real AH64D has reflections that make it impossible to see in those quadrants during certain types of lighting? On the Caucus map with low sun angles and cloudy skies it is impossible to see through them and makes avoiding the already hard to distinguish trees a real issue. Unless this is a common issue that is characteristic of operational Apaches it would be nice to have a mod that removes the fogging effect for those who want it. Even if it's correct as is the option would be appreciated.

It sure seems to me that it's much harder to control in pitch, prior to the patch I was able to lift off about 3 feet and hover without much movement, now its very hard to hold a steady pitch attitude. I chalked it up to my own perception but now I am wondering if there was a change to the flight model.
  20. In real world operations, are all CP/G's also rated pilots fully qualified on the Apache or are some purely acting as the Gunner only? Also is there a requirement to fly from the front seat every so often? I am curious if CP/G's also have to fire so many rockets from the front seat while flying, etc or log so many landings from the front seat much like requirements for fixed wing currency? Is it a rank or command thing where a CP/G might be the mission commander and have full authority over all elements?
  21. I wonder if I use two of the same game pad controllers if DCS will recognize them as separate controllers.

That is how I've seen the paddle used for other aircraft as well and that works great but I need a solution where the controller I'm using is completely remapped with a button press on the keyboard. It would require DCS to recognize the controller as 2 separate pieces of hardware, not sure that is possible. Thanks for sharing your info, I might have to think a bit harder on the modifier angle.
  23. I wish I could figure out a simple way to be able to fly from the front seat and then use the same controller to switch to the TEDAC as I have George start to fly. Can you give me some insight into how you accomplish this OP?
  24. Yes in the end there is only one way to get there and that is to practice and not get frustrated and give up. I thought I'd never manage the Huey when it first came out, but now I fly it without a thought and that only came with a lot of trial and error and a good bit of frustration at first.
