  1. There was no drama here on my end. Apologies if the text was interpreted that way. I seriously just wanted to hear more about your opinions about the DCS damage, as opposed to just the guncam footage. Yeah, I would agree that the German guns are better in many ways, however that isn't what was in question here. The issues people have been having is that a typical engagement with a 109, or Anton in DCS, (in SoW server at least) is you will have a mix of several allied fighters getting hits on an aircraft, that proceeds to continue to fly away and land, or fly for several more minutes fighting and getting hit at nearly full speed. While that can also often result in the German fight being downed fairly quickly, it seems to be inconsistent in a way that may not be entirely accurate and perhaps there is a bug remaining in the damage model. It is a WIP from ED so its fine really, just something that many of us virtual pilots who fly often in MP have made comments about. I agree that the German planes guns are more lethal per round hit, and also that perhaps the German armor was more effective, but I feel that it needs tweaking, hence the OP. Again, no drama, just want to see what other DCS pilots think about DCS. Apologies to any I may have offended. Thanks for the additional feedback, cheers!
  2. Cool! Lets throw out the guncam footage then, can we get some actual pilot's accounts that would demonstrate the DCS 109/A8/D9 damage is accurate? (for example, had to give him the whole 9 yards to force him to bail, which happens in DCS) I am curious if Nealius and iFoxRomeo would care to chime in on the actual claim about DCS here. For what it's worth, I fly the German aircraft too, and I love them! However being on the receiving end of allied fire seems to be inconsistent too. Sometimes a short burst kills you quick, and sometimes you can take a lot of damage, and in some cases as the OP showed, be quite on fire for several minutes. I get that it is very situational and it should be, but I suspect that some tweaking is still needed for accuracy, and that may be due to some sort of "bug". I am here trying to help make this an even more accurate sim, and ED has said clearly that it is WIP. If someone can demonstrate to those who think "German planes are too hard to shoot down" that it is indeed accurate, then great! I am all for it. But just saying "don't trust guncam footage" without adding anything, it isn't as constructive as adding what you think about the DM's current state as well, to provide some feedback. I just want to see what you guys think too! Cheers!
  3. I agree with OP. The issue for me is that sometimes you can shoot them down, yet most of the time it seems, even when I am flying 109 Anton and even Dora sometimes, the amount of .50 and 20mm that they can take is not what can be observed in actual guncam footage. I can shoot them down often, but it takes more ammo than I personally think it should. Again its inconsistent, sometimes it appears to be easier than other times. It often seems that the Mustang's guns are more effective than the Jug's. Jug rate of fire is 100 rounds per second, so if even a fraction of the rounds hit, it would be quite devastating to any aircraft with a burst of a few seconds. Don't take my word for it, check guncam footage. It just needs some tweaking I think, and it's an issue with the multiplayer connection I suspect.
  4. Whats our ferry range supposed to be with this particular variant? Wiki says 1800nm... 15000lbs of fuel at near 400kts tas at 22-25k 100ppm FF, I was coming up with 2.5 hr endurance and 1000nm, but im sure if I drop tanks as soon as they are empty that would go up quite a bit, but maybe not to 1800nm..... all rough estimations BTW so I could be off
  5. Well I think it was inevitable... she can land at high altitude. And in fun places. For a trip down memory lane this was the original thread in the Mustang forum... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=119199
  6. I had seen that! Love that vid.. Dead stick takeoffs are fun! Have yet to do the reverse one.... Im sure there are some Nevada peaks that would provide the right set up
  7. Here we go Nevada is open for mountain landings Back at it *bump* thought I'd start some fun on Nevada! It just realized that its wiiiiide-open
  8. Anyone care to start a friendly wager on how many pages deep, based on this thread the final DCS Hornet "release date" thread will be? Ill just start will a guess of 295.... JNelson Im looking your direction...Haha stoked for the Mirage thou
  9. that is the fault of the acf designer, if well designed X-plane is very accurate... just like any sim
  10. Def R1PE! Here is another first methinks, Kazbek peak 3rd highest in the range....
  11. Found a workaround, updated the BETA and its works controls and all, so my question, WHY didnt it work in the normal update, and does it matter that the Beta is now the non beta?
  12. Bump! starting to have a big ol WTF about this guys, ANYTHING? Still will not work what so ever..... Tried deleting all the controls in \Users\*\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input no luck, still only mouse and ONE key works which is ESC. Cant change views, cant fly, cant do ANYTHING, except exit.... a re-install is not an option, my internet is not able to DL the 12+GB again.... HELP!
  13. Having same issue, been a long time user and never seen this one. Simply cannot do anything in sim but press esc and click with mouse.... ED pls help
  14. maybe no one cares but here we go, another first approach and success here in the central Caucasus S of Elbrus... this is after takeoff And here are my first successful landings on BOTH peaks of Mt. Elbrus..
  15. Yeah, maybe should'nt have posted this just in P-51.... :)
  16. 2 more down! Here is a new one! And another... GPS on the bottom of screens if u want to give them a run... VTB_Ray did a new one too, hopefully he will post here ;)
  17. Naww, just zoomed in all the way, guess its far enough out that the water is bugged so you can see the bottom of the ship
  18. Oh yeah if u happened to get screens from that day post them here, or if u find other peaks or make attempts!
  19. HOME-starter INSERT-primer M-mixture its easy with the keyboard, and if u dont look at your hands u can pretend its the real stang 'pit ;)
  20. Hi all, the other day I was flying on Virtual Aerobatics when I saw 2 flat mountain tops the the SE of Kobuleti and I decided I could get a mustang up there, well I managed to get the first 3 up on it unscathed, then incited a bunch of hueys a few mi-8's, an A10, and an Su25 all to try to make it! We end up having about 10 of us up there at 4500.. Then attempts on the other one started thats is west of it, so far I am the only one to make it unscathed, but not for long I'm sure!! Note VTB_Ray was able to go up the 25 degree or so slope to make a different approach! Give that one as shot too, its a blast.... The reason I posted this in the Mustang area Is because the Mustang seems to be the best actf to try this with, as it is a challenge but possible, due to its excellent grass ops... Here are some pics, the mountains are between GG43 and GG53... here are some screens as attachments First attempt, success! Here is the party.. and the lower flattop to the W of the first so anyhow! give these a try if u are down! and lets find more of these to be the first on! (Mt. Elbrus is landable in the Mustang, have pulled it off, but granted with an airstart and a headwind hahah)
  21. I am able to do very straight takeoff with tail up at 80 mph (not with full fuel mind u) and very straight 2 point landings with my $20 dollar Extreme 3D pro..... Maybe add bigger curves and deadzones to your control axies
  22. Markwilliam, can your friends give any specific fact based reasons why they think its so innacurate? How much time did they really spend with the sim? Did they try to match numbers on any real world maneuvers? This sim is very much right on the numbers in every aspect of the published information AFAIK. As far as how it feels, well thats something we simmers still have to imagine, so if your not used to that, then I can see how maybe it would seem off. Also no sim is yet perfect, many of us here are making the case that this is not only very very close, but may be the best flight model I have ever experienced, and reminds me the most of my real world flying experinence(not in a mustang mind you) Keep in mind that you don't have a real stick attached to the flight controls with real world slipstream forces to overcome, its very easy to deflect your desktop joystick fully at 350mph, not so much IRL, see?
