  1. Hello to all

I would like to ask what is the proper takeoff way for a harrier in order to takeoff from Tarawa. Is it rolling or vertical? since I am as new user of the module I have made a lot of unsuccessful attempts.

Sorry for the section that I post but I did not find a section for harrier!

    Thanx

The standard takeoff is rolling. Set the flaps to STOL and your nozzles to 10 degrees, then hold the brakes and run the throttle up. When the plane starts to roll, release the brakes. When you get to the end of the deck, set the nozzles to 55 degrees.

That's a simplified version of the by-the-book procedure, and might not work with takeoff weights near the maximum, but it should get you off the deck reliably in most circumstances.

  2. Also, don't forget the usual post-patch solution of going to your <User>/Saved Games/DCS folder and deleting the fxo and metashaders folders. DCS pregenerates/caches some files used by the graphics engine, and changes to models, textures, the engine, or your graphics drivers may render those files out of date and unusable.

  3. I set up a quick little mission last night with an SA-2 site as a bombing target. I had the Fan Song radar in, along with the ground-based search/EW radar in the Iran unit list (I forget what it's called off-hand), and the Tarawa. All three showed up on the RWR as 'UK'. Is that a problem with my installation, expected behavior for the real aircraft, or missing entries in a Harrier table somewhere pending an update?

  4. Yup! Thanks, that explains some behavior I saw when playing around with waypoint editing, too.

I did note that the markpoints started at 0 for me when hitting the EHSD MK button, counted up to 10, then went to 1, then 10 again, as I hit the button repeatedly. On a three-waypoint flight plan, the next waypoint I could enter manually was 24. (Which would make sense if there were 0-10=11 plus 1-10=10 markpoints in the computer.) I also saw the same thing as you, where the markpoint number displayed in between the up and down arrows was always MK0.

  5. I think there's definitely some kind of problem here—see the attached files.

Harrier Test (No WPs) is the mission file for harriertest1.trk. There are no waypoints in the mission file. Entering coordinates works as expected, and the UFC scratchpad shows the correct coordinates when viewing them with the POS ODU button, but the MPCD doesn't center on them, and moving the TDC moves the ownship symbol instead of the waypoint.

Harrier Test (WPs) is the mission file for harriertest2.trk. There's one waypoint in the mission file. It can be moved with the TDC and otherwise edited. I tried to add a second waypoint, but the N coordinate wouldn't enter correctly in the UFC scratchpad. (I think I fat-fingered it originally and set it to 00.00.00. There might be an issue with handling far out-of-bounds coordinates?)

Let me know if you need anything else.

  6. You need at least two waypoints on the flight plan for it to work.

I had the same problem after making two waypoints—both said 00.00.00 on the MFDs, selecting them didn't move the moving map, and the TDC moved the aircraft symbol.

In another mission, I had a three-waypoint flight plan, but had to enter 24 or greater to make a new waypoint. (Paging through on the MFD, there were a bunch of markpoints in between.)

  7. It should return to the previously selected mode, but doesn't at present.

I think the real-world workflow when using the TPOD is, generally, to move it in TDC mode, pop into HTS mode to make a change, then go right back. (Not that I have any way of knowing; that just seems like the most sensible way based on the manuals.)

  8. 238kt in a clean Harrier is pretty much the throttle-at-idle speed, in my experience. I can make it work with the airbrake out and very cautious use of the throttle, though.

I don't know what speed the manuals recommend for AAR, but I suspect it's faster than the default tanker speed.

  9. I've enjoyed my time with the single-player missions, but stepping up to the server for the first time tonight was a real hoot. I'll definitely be back.

I noticed that I took off from a public Tarawa slot, but TACAN channel 9 (public Tarawa in the kneeboard) took me to the other one, and 10 was the one I took off from. Have they gotten mixed up?
