  1. A-10C please! Really nice of you to do this by the way.
  2. Hah... 16. No, I'm serious. Such a minority.
  3. For a moment I thought you'd gone mad, and then I updated... Well great, they're gone for me too. At least I was able to get through them all yesterday! :smartass:
  4. Thanks Echo! Really saved my OCD there. And I'll admit, the rotors do sound nice. It's just that after half an hour of hearing the air around you get beaten into submission it can make you go just a little insane. Just a little.
  5. Perhaps silly question, but nevertheless... Ok, so switching to a door gunner via the 3 or 4 keys will open up the corresponding door on the heli's side, is there a way to shut the door afterwards? If anything, it'll help reduce the noise from the rotors whilst flying (not to mention, it would be a nice feature).

    man of steel

So cheesy.....but at least the action was good while it was there.
  7. I think he has a point by saying it's a stagnant battlefield. In most missions (yes, even the good ones) the enemy ground forces usually just sit there and wait to be picked off, unless it's some sort of mission-critical convoy. Not a lot happens on the ground, even flying in the Ka-50 at least a good 75% of the enemies you'll see will be sitting still. Will more human controlled tanks fix this? No, unless there's a LOT of people in tanks, which isn't feasible with the way the servers are currently set up. That being said, being able to control a tank as a simulator as opposed to the way it is in CA would still be immensely entertaining, and would definitely benefit the DCS environment IMHO. I don't think DCS should go in the ways of infantry, it should remain a simulator first and foremost. IF infantry could be incorporated into the environment in a realistic way that works that'd be great, but like you said we won't see a perfect world like that in our lifetimes. Besides, why would you hike for 2km when you could take a plane, heli or tank? Vehicles are much more interesting. ARMA fills the FPS void for now, I don't think DCS really needs controllable infantry.
  8. It wouldn't really need a full crew of players. Just look at the Huey. You can fly that thing fine on your own, with AI taking over the other seats. Not to mention, you could switch seats yourself if you ever wanted to take over.
  9. Well, that would work but ships generally have dozens, if not hundreds of crew. Seems like quite a workload for what I can imagine will only be a handful of players per ship. And switching between all those positions would be a mess... And even if you got enough people, that would pretty much be the entire server's players on one ship, not to mention that a server wouldn't be able to support anywhere near that many users at once.
  10. Now that you mention it, I suppose I'll try anything once. Count me in. Also, this thread looks very familiar...hmm... :D Don't know how this could play out in DCS though, as in crew positions. Everything that's DCS so far has a set pit where the player sits and controls his aircraft from, don't know how that can translate to ships unless it would be more like FC3. As in, keyboard commands to do everything and the player acts as a commander.
  11. I agree, which is why I said this kind of thing needs to wait until everything else is fixed up. So far not only the AI but also the terrain need improvement before this sort of project would be worthwhile.
  12. You hear that, third party devs? There's your million dollar idea! Now make it happen! Seriously though, I hope that DCS can eventually reach a level where we have people not only flying planes and helis, but also on the ground driving tanks or artillery and commanding... Maybe someday. I know DCS gets compared to ARMA too much, but I'll go ahead and say that it would be like an ARMA for people with too much time on their hands! (and that's a good thing) Though I agree that the jets and new terrain stuffs should come first. Something like this would really be best left to a third party.
  13. Since the introduction of Combined Arms, this idea has been stuck in my head. Out of curiosity, would it be at all possible to create a full fidelity tank simulator for DCS? With a clickable pit and the like? It certainly seems like it could be done, there's already controllable vehicles and now multiple seats with the addition of the Huey. There aren't many tank sims out there, and certainly none of DCS quality (at least that I know of). I think it'd be pretty fun getting a group of people together and driving around the frontline in a T-72 for example, one person commander, another gunner, driver, maybe loader...just add beer and there's your Saturday night :D Okay, maybe not loader, but you get the point. There's a lot that needs to be improved with DCS at the moment (especially the ground aspect) before such a thing can even be considered, but it seems like it could have quite a bit of potential! Might as well attach a poll to see if anyone else would be interested in such a thing.
  14. Yep, just launched today. Having played European Escalation I couldn't pass this up, especially with the generous 25% off bonus for owning the previous game. Now if only my internet would download faster :music_whistling: Really looking forward to the dynamic campaign, I felt something like this was missing from the last game and it seems perfect for filling the void.
  15. If you want to delete the driver, you might be able to find it by going to control panel>hardware and sound>and then device manager under devices and printers. From here you can find the driver and uninstall it, maybe fixing your problem. I'm not sure if the process differs on windows 8 as I use windows 7.
  16. The way I do it, and I have NO IDEA if it's at all correct, is as follows: On taxi nav lights to flash and collision lights on On takeoff/landing nav lights to steady and collision lights on, keeps these as is if flying in a non-combat scenario In the air (during combat scenario) all lights off unless in formation during which formation lights on During an attack run all lights off
  17. From near Toronto, eagerly anticipating Spring (anytime this month please?) Glad I could help, I was *this* close to ordering a physical copy myself. Thankfully, some obscure post somewhere mentioned that there was a download version on the Ubisoft store. Managed to find it after a bit of searching.
  18. Ubisoft isn't selling anymore? Uh... How about here: http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_CA/pd/ThemeID.8605600/productID.225065700/Lock_On.html That's where I got mine from, about the same time FC3 came out. Worked perfectly for me. By the way, I'm also from Canada.
  19. Im not a genius when it comes to missile employment, but in my time using the F-15c Ive noticed that missiles fired beyond optimal range will often miss their mark, namely the Aim-120. In order to maximize hit probability i need to fire much closer than the maximum range, one third of it or so. Maybe the AI is programmed to fire only within an optimal range, where a hit is almost ensured.
  20. ...or is it just me? The first startup usually goes fine but then after shutting down the engine it becomes very difficult to get it going again. Thats not to say its impossible, but it usually takes a dozen or two tries to get the engine started. This began after the 1.2.1 update. Is anyone else experiencing this or does anyone have any tips on starting up? Not that i want my engine to startup perfectly each time, i actually prefer some challenge
