  1. +1 This would be useful. I'd want to map my DMS right and left to this.
  2. There's a lot of complaining about the cockpit glass and its effect on visibility. I do understand the gripe. However, I'd implore Leatherneck, that if they do see fit to address these complaints, please please please make it optional. I, for one, love the realism of a grubby cockpit. I enjoy having to move my head to look around a blemish on the canopy. I imagine this is what Mig 21 drivers had to do in the past, and current pilots have to do even more so now.
  3. Also, you need to press "and hold" the weapon release button until the Maverick comes off the rail.
  4. Does the Maverick camera have SENSOR written down the side of it? Make sure you have your Master Arm switch on. And make sure you have Mavericks selected. check your DSMS page. Your selected Mavs should be in white. To select your Mavs, make your HUD SOI and DMS right until you see your Maverick profile in the lower left side of the HUD.

    Trim question

OK, so no aileron trim then. I can live with that. So, in that case, is it normal procedure to fire ordnance in pairs to keep balanced? I noticed the AA tutorial hinted at this. And indeed after I fired one of my missiles, the plane did want to drop a wing.

    Trim question

Hi, I was just wondering if the Mig 21 has aileron trim at all? Also, is there a method for setting the elevator trim for takeoff? I always have to give it a handfull of nose up trim just after liftoff to keep it in the air. I'm used to setting TO trim in the A-10 and the F-86. I couldn't see anything obvious in the manual. Having said that, I have been flying more than reading. :) Excellent job Leatherneck. Al.
  7. You could do this and if the targets were close it would probably be faultless. I'd worry about the second lgb having to make a dramatic course change at low(er) altitude if the second target is far from the first one.
  8. I think with JDAMs you can. From my experience, the current SPI is uploaded to the JDAM before it's released. If you are tracking a moving target, your bomb will splash at the point sampled at release time (ie it'll miss). LGBs: You can only lase one target at a time. If you switch targets while the bomb is in freefall, it will attempt to change course to your current lase point (which makes these perfect for moving targets). I suppose you could release two LGBs each tracking different laser frequencies - one lased by you, one buddy lased. Never tried it though.
  9. Ah, that makes sense. It kinda means that you should only be hitting that switch when committing to a gun run. Cool. Thanks.
  10. Hi all, Here's something I wasn't expecting. I've been leaving my AHCP Gun switch in the Off position until I'm going to use it lately. So I'm flying straight and level trimmed for hands free. When I click the switch to Gun/PAC, the plane immediately goes out of trim and the nose dips. I'm sure there's an explanation. Does anybody know why this happens? I was thinking that when the GAU spins up, some weight transfers to the front. I never noticed it before now because I used to switch the Gun on before take off and leave it on.
  11. So, I've been doing some Fast Missions and trying to clear out the SAM threats before going in low with the Avenger. All sounds familiar I hear you cry ... or type. Well, more often than not, I get a SAM up the arse for my troubles. But I've somewhat enjoyed attempting to get the remainder of my plane home. Up until recently, I'd just quit the mission and restart. But now I really want to get my Hog home regardless of how much of it is left. Apologies if this seems an obvious part of the SIM. It's just that everytime I think I'm getting bored with the A10, it seems to pop up with a new feature or style of play to rekindle my interest. Well done ED.
  12. It was an AA-8. Just looked it up in Wikipedia, it is indeed IR guided. Since I've turned labels off, I seem to be getting myself shot down alot by these guys.
  13. When I played the track back, he was flying about 3000 ft below me at about 11 o'clock with his landing gear down. He was only abou 5 nm from me as well. No AWACs in the Fast missions, no.
  14. Hi, last night I was flying a Fast mission. Previously during the mission, I was getting a RWR notification that there was a SU-27 around. I avoided this like the plague. however, later on I was making an attack run on some T72s, and I got hit by an AA missile from a Su-17m4. There was no warning, just a huge bang, 3 feet of my left wing gone, left engine out, leaking hydraulics, etc. I limped back to Batumi and got down in more or less one piece. Should I have received a RWR warning for this plane/launch? I know it's a heat-seeker. If not, what can I do to help prevent this?
  15. This is how I normally line up with the runway: - Go to the CDU Nav->divert page and choose my base - This sets my current steerpoint to the runway, and the heading bug also. - Check what runway ATC want to bring me in on - If for example it's 04, then the heading of the runway is approximately 040 - I set my Course bug to this heading (040) - Fly the heading directed by ATC - When the steerpoint bug starts to converge with the course bug, I turn towards the runway ... Perfectly lined up.
  16. Flew a few Fast Missions today. All Mavericks were on target (moving targets as well). I think I was just having an off day yesterday.
  17. Created a simple mission with 4 BMPs. All 4 Mavericks were dead on. I was nose-on when firing all 4 missiles though. I'll do more investigations. I tried doing a "Fast Mission" there to see if there was any difference, but twice in a row I got swiss-cheesed by a Su-27 30 mm. But that's a whole different thread :D
  18. Too much for the missile you mean? I'll try again putting the target on my nose before firing.
  19. I was indeed. On Autopilot actually. The target was at my 1 o'clock as well.
  20. I've been lurking here for a while. Just flew my first "Quick Mission" mission in 1.2.3, fired off 4 AGM-65Ds at BMPs and 3 of em missed. They hit damned close. One of them shaved the top of the BMP as it sailed over it. But no kills. I was firing from FL 100 and about 5 or 6 kms from the target Before this I've missed maybe 1 out of 20 Maverick shots. I'll fly another mission later on and see if it's any better.
