  1. By the way I'm making an assumption here that the fuel pump switch and the main tanks booster pump are the same thing? I also notice the fuel pump switch is not mentioned operationally in the manual.
  2. Thanks Phil. Note the fuel pressure warning light has not come on so I'm unsure about that. However, the RAF manual says the following - (iii) Use of the booster pump(s) (a) The main tanks booster pump should be switched ON for take-off and landing and at all times when these tanks are in use in flight. {b) The rear fuselage tanks booster pump should be switched ON at all times when changing to, or using fuel from, these tanks. This may therefore have something to do with it, I shall try and see if that helps! Anyone know where the rear booster pump switch is? ;)
  3. I have an interesting problem with the Spitfire when climbing. It doesn't happen all the time (happens about 4 times out of 5) but when it does it's quite frustrating. Climbing in various configurations but typically at boost +12, RPM 2850, with second stage supercharger engaged (light on) and IAS between 170 and 190 mph the engine cuts out at around 17,000 ft. Levelling off and reducing the boost to 0 or +2 will get the engine going again. At the point the engine cuts out the radiator temperature will start to fall quite dramatically (to under 60C) and won't recover even after the engine has restarted, until I descend to a lower level. Oil temperature during the climb climbs to around 90C then starts falling slightly when the second stage kicks in. On other occasions, with exactly the same climbing configuration, the aircraft will climb willingly to over 35,000 ft, no problems. Any ideas? To make things more interesting I'm starting to think the problem is more persistent on multiplayer servers so possibly it's an environmental issue?

  5. Thanks Sabre, yeah, I saw that but will I be allowed to continue to taxi without switching Anti-Skid On during the Before Taxi checklist? I don't want to fail again! Also this - Are you referring to this - 43. Idle Core RPM – CHECK a) Rapidly move throttle from IDLE to MAX, then hard motion back to IDLE (IDLE-MAX-IDLE in 2 seconds or less) That's a separate check correct? Thanks for your help.
  6. Not sure if I've discovered an omission in the amplified checklist but the Before Taxi section of the checklist appears to omit Anti-Skid On on page 6. On page 5 we have Anti-Skid On and Off as part of the SAS - CHECK (item 15), and Anti-Skid On and Off as part of the Brakes - CHECK (item 18 ). I'd expect Anti-Skid On after the EAC Switch - ENGAGE but it doesn't appear to be there. And thanks for the Pitot Heat test info above, I'd guessed as much but nice to have it confirmed!

  8. The tutorial is very good at teaching basic VFR landings. You start IIRC at 1000m (3000') at 10 miles and 500KPH. The aircraft has about 1000ltrs of fuel. This is the rough ideal state I believe you want to be in for landing. Heavier is possible but you'll need more throttle and a higher landing speed. Don't forget to trim! At this point reduce the throttle to ~70% and lower the gear. Once gear is down select take off flaps (middle button). Keep flying towards the runway threshold and make sure you are nicely lined up on the centreline. Once speed has dropped to 400KPH increase poweer to ~85% and continue approach. At around 350m altitude lower flaps to landing position (aft button). You should be coming in nicely but use the throttle to stay on the correct glideslope. Vertical speed should be around 5m/s. You shouldn't be pulling back on the stick a lot to maintain your runway picture. If you are, without throttle input, you are probably sinking too fast. I like to keep the runway threshold picture on the bottom of the gunsight. Seems to work. Final approach speed, as John mentions, is 340KPH. Do not let the aircraft slow any more than this! As you come over the threshold start to reduce power a bit and prepare to flare. Things happen quite fast at this point so do not flare too late otherwise you will bounce hard, or worse. Do not flare too heavily either as you will float down the runway. Once on the ground you are supposed to aero brake but I don't bother. Just let the nose wheel sink slowly to the ground, idle the engine and release the chute. You're down and safe, someone else can park it. Go and get a beer...
  9. Great work, thanks Utirvik! Anyone know why their is a request for ground power in the tutorial but not in the manual checklist? If you don't make the request the aircraft still starts up fine.
  10. Yep, the cross will collapse when force correlating (boat switch in the middle position), but it should shimmer (and collapse) when locked. You can fire when either of these things are true. I'm not sure though that this is related to the OP's original problem. I often find that quick firing 2 or 3 Mav D's will result in a miss due to the second or third mav losing the lock on the target locked for that missile and finding one of the first locked targets instead, particularly if they are close together. BTW - useful tip maybe for some, force correlating is very useful at night when otherwise Mav H's won't otherwise lock up a target. Found this out when I made the mistake of starting a night mission with Mav H's instead of Mav D's as I'd intended... :P
  11. Stick with it Raven, it's worth it. The more you learn the easier it gets. My advice would be to ditch the tutorials and create some simple missions of your own. If you want to learn something specific use YouTube tutorials and back it up with the relevant section of the manual. Learn in bite size pieces. For weapons I suggest you start with Mavs, GBUs and Gun. Target aquisition can also be tricky at first but with your KA-50 experience you should have ahead start on that I'd guess.

  15. Right handed orbits are slightly better at mitigating this (as I'm sure you know).
