Right now only DCS. I currently own VRS Superbug, but I don't like Microshaft flight sim. I have BMS 4.5, but uninstalled it as it is a brain load when I am content with FA18 from DCS. I sincerely hope DCS will produce a FA18-E. I own Xplane11 but it is not installed. I've must have owned very flight sim that was made all the way back from Microprose F/A15-E Strike Eagle on an Atari 800XL. Flanker 2.0 ruled!

  1. Yeah... through time perhaps these things can be ironed out a bit. AI ya know.... At least it's better than what I was doing some years ago. The Carrier is a beaut! I'll take it.
  2. One thing that happens though is, I'll be coming n and call the ball... the LSO will just about every time say Power...POWER.... sometimes he'll say your left or your low... but often , by the time I will touch the carrier deck and about the time my hook snags the wire, the LSO states "Wave Off" He is often LATE. And repetitive. Can't very well wave off when the hook has as I put it in MIL power. The hook' s got me so maybe the LSO is .... "Wrong"
  3. I have read in the DCS manual regarding adding and modifying key commands in attempt to assign my Sys RQ screenshot key to my FA18 Button 12 stick button. I cannot seem to change or modify that Sys RQ key command in DCS at all. I can either choose default or remove it. I also noticed too on my Keyboard my screenshot print key is labeled PRT SC. So maybe I have a hardware issue and need a keyboard that matches the Sys RQ key so then I can access it on the DCS menu in control settings? Someone told me to use joy2 button but I couldn't figure that out at all. The flight stick button I would like to assign it to is button 12 in the middle of that slider on the FA18 TM stick. I was just thinking it would be cool to zoom in and zoom out and then at any time press the center of my thumb spring slider and snap a shot which is button 12 on that grip we have. It this even possible? Is my failure to be able to do it because of my keyboard and region or something. Sys RQ vs PRT CS Anyone? Respectfully Marc
  4. Is it possible to assign the PRT SC key to another location in DCS to do a screenshot during game play?  I truly wish I could assign my TM FA18 #12 button to take screenshots. I use the spring slider which is 11 and 13 to zoom in and zoom out. I always thought it would be really cool to zoom in or what not, and then be able to press the slider on the FA18, which is #12 on the TM stick to take a snap.  So this way I don't have to reach up and press the keyboard. But in control settings that key command seems fixed and not optional.

It would be a cool way to hit screenshots.

    Thanks

Anyone know?
  6. I was in the same boat as you my friend. I have been a Warthog fan ever since it landed on the market. It's is still the A10 and beautiful. For an F18 I went with TM's FA18 stick since I'm a fan. I replaced the Warthog's black gimbal spring with the Green one from "Warthog Extensions" + I added the 20cm stainless extension piece and now my flight stick has travel that is like butter. No sanding, no 767A grease needed. (which is a good procedure if you choose that method),... I can pull my stick over and it will just sit there "360", and not even move. Now any little input I do, the more accurate travel range compared to the real hornet... (not that I would know)....I get a response instead of having to cope with a sort of resistance that causes me to constantly over correct. I never realized how much I was fighting HOTAS as opposed to controlling and enjoying the effects or equation of a given input. Warthog Extensions is out of Poland and expensive. For my stick it was quick and did the trick for me. Real easy clean too. I like the TM stick over the Win Wing simply because it has the spring slider next to our Recee button that is perfect for zoom in zoom out view. ... "The Throttle" What am I gonna do with this A10 mini Hog now?! I spent $750.00 on that Win Wing Throttle. It was like... $565.00 then Win Wing charged me $190.00 to ship it to my location! It took about a week to arrive Fedx! I am very impressed and pleased. The throttle's range too! I was originally mainly after the HOTAS button configuration. The Antenna spring loaded slider on the throttle is a must! This thing was designed for the Hornet operation so I had to spend the extra doe and take a chance! I love the levers and different stages within the throttle. It matches up with operations in NATOPS for carrier launch mil speed vs afterburner stages. The switches I wasn't to concerned with on first sight before purchase. But now, in my hands, looking at them and applying them... we have a APU that lights up! Fuel prob! Right and left generator and batt switch, even though it is on the left side so what. It has the external light switches pretty much identical right on the other side of the throttle sliders! Drop tank switches for a quick defensive BFM situation. At the end of the day it is simply about having fun. It's a a video game. For me.. I am glad I spend the doe for this Throttle to go with my more customized stick action! The range and speed control now is tighter which enables me to sort of match this with my newly founded stick control. Makes it a more fun flight experience for a home sim for sure! I contacted Win Wing too and inquired if I ever had a problem or needed a switch replaced could I purchase one and he replied back with broken english in an email and said he would give me any switches if I ever needed one. I have consulted with some of the bigger fish here that produce some of those videos on youtube and some said they have played their Win Wings for hours a day with no issues. But then some did not respond either. I wish I could be like some where these companies send it to them for a free review. So I took a chance. I have no regrets. I even want more of their products since I'm not gonna build a full blown cockpit. If your a Hornet fan, my opinion is the Win Wing is the front runner! I told Win Wing that I think they should do a video and show us more personally and let us see them. They agreed but told me that they are short staffed and busy trying to produce enough product to keep up with their demand, then he tells me he will give me a switch if I ever need one. Sine their prototype a year ago is has been said they beefed up on any issues. Buying from them though is like buying led zeppelin tickets-sold out! I'm confident so far .......... I have nothing bad to say about anyone else's preference choice either. If it controls the game it's all the same.
  7. I was reading NATOPS for the FA18 C-D. The NATOPS for E-F versions too also state in sections III-8-3 (I never knew why the NAVY just couldn't use Chapter-Page),but... it states 8.2.5 Before CAT hook up, Before taxi onto the catapult it mentions about gross weight and adjusting trim after pressing the trim button for a hands free launch. The trim is supposed to be adjusted for proper AOA coming off the launch? When we run through the system cold start and we set the trim , then we conduct that test that works our flaps and functions.. should we also then be adjusting our trim and looking at a certain MFD page to bring our horizontal stabilator to a manual position? 8.2.5 Before Catapult Hook-Up. Before taxi onto the catapult, complete the takeoff checklist, set the standby attitude reference indicator for use if the HUD fails during the launch. With flaps HALF or FULL, the takeoff trim button should be pressed until the TRIM advisory appears and then the horizontal stabilator trim should be manually positioned for CG location, excess end airspeed and power setting for launch. The takeoff trim button need not be pressed between successive launches in a single flight. With an asymmetric load, trim stabilator for normal position then trim differential stabilator unloaded wing down. The trim settings in figure 8-1 are applicable for HALF flaps only, all air-to-air stores, air-to-ground stores, clean aircraft, external fuel tanks, gross weights and launch CG between 17.0 and 27.5% MAC. For normal operation, 15 knots excess end airspeed above minimum is recommended. Is our DCS module pretty much on the same page or standard as these procedures as far as flight and FCS behaviors. Not that I would know.. but this is some real interesting reading! It even talks about and describes how the Flaps switch is in such a tie with our FCS too in the next section here someplace... How much of this is needed or applied to our module? Brings a whole new founding respect for the makers at DCS as far as programming. Both NATOPS for the C version and Super Hornet have this in the same areas too within. I'm ignorant, but learning these things in a complexed environment is rewarding. Just wondering how much of this information applies to our module. Obviously some procedures of circumstance would not, that pertain to real life, but flight characteristics and procedures of pre start, landing, carrier ops..etc... "How do we set our stabilator for CG location manually? Forgive me if it does state this in our Early Access , It's a lot and I wanted to compare some stuff. Once I started pondering this, I couldn't stop. It's interesting! Respectfully "Anybody"
  8. Sorry... looks like I fly the forum here about as well as the assigned holding pattern.
  9. Thanks. I also downloaded and watched that Case III Radio coms video from Wagner. This seemed to also help me with what I think was my main problem ,as I was not flying the correct holding pattern. And keeping the correct range altitude and time assigned in a sense. I was doing it all wrong. I was flying straight in. Wagner's video seemed to break it all down in sequence and it all seems to make a lot more sense now. Seems like maybe too, it wasn't explained like the video he put out compared to what I was reading. I'll work on it. Thanx!
  10. This is very cool! The carrier itself is also very cool. Best out there in it's classification! I remember LOMAC and how everyone for years wanted "Flyable Hornets". Now look what we have and what's being made. That would be cool too , if we could just wander through the whole ship and conduct "Engineering Rover watch". Just kiddin. Maybe even attend public Captain's mass in the hanger bay? Or a tour through DC Central or the ship's machine shop. Maybe too, some CHT tanks that would overflow.. Seriously though.... is it just me... because I sit and take snapshots of this beaut all day long! Nice Carrier!! A real beast! I won't complain. Might always want more... but I can't complain going back to Flanker 2.0 which was too actually ahead of its time in my opinion.
  11. I know what you mean. The music too for the Hornet reminds me of Iron Eagle IV. But.... This carrier WIP is something I've wanted for 20 years. I remember in LOMAC when there were "Hornets". And everyone was asking.. "Are they flyable" and ED said "No" I remember writing them a respectful email and told them how I really enjoyed their work all the way back to Flanker 2.0. , and how there was such a demand for a Flyable Hornet. They respectfully responded back and said that they would like to create a Hornet, but it is classified and at that time they could not and they also reminded me tha tit was harder as they were a Russian Development team. I'm wondering when the "Super Hornet" is gonna land. History will repeat itself? But yeah... that music is .... yeah..it would be nice to be able to put our own in.
  12. Well.. I tried it again, Case II. From 21 miles out I hear "Switch Approach. What's that? Then 10 miles out I check in. Come in straight... no opportunity to call the ball after ILS and TACAN and needles are perfect.. Where's the LSO? If I land I'll get "No communication no grade, I bolted through like Dhuntman was talking abut, circle around, Get a switch approach message again... I choose "Commencing anyway"... I land without any LSO directive or call the ball opportunity...and I get a grade. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe if I create my own mission it will respond differently? Case I's I get no problems. Case II and III I seem to have radio issues. What am I doing wrong. I have been reading. Maybe I am on a wrong radio channel?
  13. Page 57 states : For a CASE II recovery, you will radio “see you at 10” when the aircraft is 10 nm from the carrier just as on a Case I recovery. Radio control is transferred from the approach controller to the tower controller. At this point, the pilot performs an overhead break and landing. No Case I holding stack is required. Out from 10 miles I report in 10 miles out and I even pass by the starboard side of the ship at 800ft out at about a mile then break left and start my descending, keeping it within about 3 miles of the carrier... But all I get is radio options "Commencing" Platform"... once I am about a mile or less to the ship on my final approach, there's no call the ball routine and LSO commands like I get with a Case I. I get the same message "No communication. I'm on 127.50 unless I am using the wrong radio channel or something. But why on Case I approaches I am fine, but case II it seems to not establish final radio commands? I've been reading, looking at videos... Respectfully requesting: What am I failing to do or missing? Sometimes I get lost or stuck in my head when I hear a female voice tell me to "switch approach" I can't find that in the book so far. 2.
