  1. Not that I have ever noticed, the sound stops momentarily during these pauses but I dont hear any pops or beeps or anything.
  2. Thanks, but I have already ruled out Anti Virus: "- clean boot, made sure nothing else was running especially Anti virus/Anti Malware and background tasks." And I dont have Windows 10 so ... I checked again after the massive update to stable, other than some random keybinds going missing (whats up wit that?) its still there. And as I have mentioned, everything else (literally everything else I play) runs stellar.
  3. Well Im still dead in the water here, support has no ideas either. Maybe the stable release addresses whatever this is: "Fixed several hundred bugs, added dozens of new features, improved stability of the game and multiplayer, as well as many, many minor fixes and improvements."
  4. 16GB. RAM has not been an issue so far that I have noticed and have taken a look at this very thing often and dont see anything jumping out at me in the processes. Besides, this is a fairly recent issue for me. This sounds interesting, do you mean turn off vsync in game (it already is) and turn it on in the nvidia control panel?
  5. Hi, thats a good point - I have two SSDs. One has only Windows and its associated stuff on it, the other has my games. Also have a HDD that I keep more static things that dont need the performance boost of solid state but DCS has nothing to do with that one. But its a good idea maybe? Even if the one HDD is not being used by DCS maybe something else is happening over there that I am missing...
  6. After I posted this went and tried to configure another module, and in the controls screen everything just locked. Can still hear the music but nothing is responsive. Hit the stopwatch on my phone and waited for 20 minutes, finally ended up having to kill the process. No crash log.
  7. Hey all, Not sure what happened here but I finally got DCS running really well but had to put it aside for a while. Not even sure when, probably had not touched t for about 6 months or so. Coming back I let the game update and do its thing, nothing else major changed that I know of other than Windows patches and the like. I tend to keep my system as static as possible once I get everything tamed - and it was. Even after I upgraded my vid card to the 1660, had to adjust a few things but it was smooth as glass. Now - No matter which module or map I choose, DCS is basically unplayable right now. Every 1 - 1 1/2 minutes everything just stops - for a fraction of a second but its very noticeable. Its especially fun when trying to take off or land. I tried everything I can think of: - clean boot, made sure nothing else was running especially Anti virus/Anti Malware and background tasks. - unplugged all USB devices, including TrackIR, sat around in a Huey on the ground and even just looking around I still have the pauses. Fps is at a steady 80-90 on the ground. Flying around it dips to about 40 or so but besides the pauses seems fine. - Deleted the MetaShaders and fxo directories - updated to latest Nvidia driver - opened a case with ED, they had me completely remove the DCS folder from Saved Games so I had a fresh start. After reconfiuring everything (wish I had been warned about that )took a test flight in the Huey and there is no difference. - tried just about every combination of screen resolution/settings I can think of. Odd thing is that FPS doesnt seem to be affected much, but nothing I do will get rid of this pause. Other games run fine; IL2, Elite Dangerous. Subnautica, Fallout4, Doom 2016 etc all at pretty high settings - no other game I have exhibits this behaviour. I could posts tech stats and whatnot but wanted to get an idea first if anybody else has experienced something like this? Or maybe some suggestions on what else to look at, I think ED is just as confused as I am so far.
  8. Thanks for the help all - I got the GTX 1660 in and am now seeing between 40-60 FPS even at high settings, averages between 35-50 depending on how hectic things are but its boatloads better than what it was!
  9. Thanks for the suggestions - I have been looking at the 1060 as it fits my budget, but will also look into the 1660 series. Looks to be only a few dollars more. I just thought of something - my native resolution is 1920x1080 so thats what I run DCS in. I never thought of dropping the resolution, will have to give that a shot as well to hold me over until I can upgrade. Another challenge is something I didn't realize since I upgrade so rarely and just started looking into this - most of these new cards only have HDMI ports, a few may have one DVI but none of them have 2. And only one of my monitors has HDMI so I need to factor that in as well.
  10. Bleh, that stinks. I knew it was on the lower end (built this system in 2015) but didn't think it was *that* far off. That being said - if anyone has recommendations for a video card upgrade I am all ears! I dont do this stuff very often so its always like starting over when do get around to doing it, :helpsmilie:
  11. Hey all - I am pulling my hair out here. Following this guide to the letter, at the minimum setting I barely break 30 fps and usually suffer around 15-20. Is that the best I can expect with these specs? ASUS Z97-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard GIGABYTE GV-N75TOC-2GI G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600 16gb RAM OS is installed on one SSD, DCS on a seperate SSD. Windows 7 64bit 1920x1080 I have not fired up DCS in a long while, and after I got the new SSD I moved the install from the old disk to the SSD, upgraded DCS and then upgraded 2.5.5, removed options.lua and set config for the minimum in this post. The bare minimum - and I average 20 fps. I have made sure nothing else is running, rebooted, even updated the nvidia drivers to 440.97 and all of the suggested settings are turned off (aa, vsync, etc) I did my testing on the Huey module, free flight. I can get 60fps if I stare at the ceiling.
  12. Right, a lot of good points! One thing to point out: EDIT: I realized you were not talking about DCS here and may have misunderstood. As far as these missions go - It has been hit and miss so far. *some* things are shown and some are not. The ones that are not I have mostly been able to figure out but had to go outside of the game to find it. One example is the shutdown process - I had no idea how to turn off the throttles. The practice session paused at that point while I floundered around to find it, there was no indication since there is nothing clickable and there was no text telling me what keyboard command. I finally found it but I was not shown anything. Makes me wonder how much patience that guy has and how long it would wait... I am making progress and learning a lot as I go, so its still good.
  13. Ok I found the practice missions - nothing new was showing up under Missions or My Missions so after some digging around I noticed they are in the Campaign directory. So this is a step forward, I can almost ramp start this thing to the instructors expectations :) RE: the manual - I agree its a valuable tool and I am the first to parrot RTFM. Although its more of a reference tool than something that can be utilized by reading front to back, it takes a lot of hopping around and searching after reading. And even then I find myself in the dark. One example is the first mission in the Tactical Training campaign (yes I know, do the flight first but sometimes I just want to see how far I can get). One of the requirements is to set up frequencies and its listed like this: Tactical Training Freq: TAD 12 Guard : TAD 08 Now I am fairly familiar with the radios and dont have any problems dialing in ATCs and such. But I have never seen a frequency in this format - so have been scouring the manual as well as online trying to find out what on earth I have to do in order to set this up. I dont even see a practice mission for this one - the first one listed is TAC11 and the only other one that is close is TTQ Arrival but thats just watching a chopper fly into the base.
  14. I certainly did miss that! What jumped out at me was "Training" so I guess I need to read the fine print next time.
  15. Its not in a similar order as either the training start up that comes with the A10, or any of the videos I have watched. Plus it has all sorts of tests to run that I have never seen or read about anywhere, other than in passing in the manual. So I dont even know where most of these buttons are.
  16. Ok that might help, how/where do I find this exactly? Thanks
  17. Learning the A10C and thought the training campaigns would help, but so far its a wash - these things are not doing any training at all! I didnt realize there was a basic flight training so I accidentally got the tactical training one first. Once I realized I was in over my head I went back to the DCS store and found what I thought would be a good learning tool - "A-10C Basic Flight Training Campaign" It starts out with a guy droning on about checking to make sure everything is off (and like all ramp starts, everything is off), then goes into a bizarre start up procedure - I say that because I have been practicing start ups and the order doesn't make a lot of sense. I got to the end and he said I missed one check and did poorly. But I guess my point is, where is the training? These are tests! Are there any campaigns out there (other than the included ones which I have already done) that prepare for these?
  18. Grrr I could have waited a couple of days and gotten 6o% off!!! No harrier sale...
  19. I picked up the A10. Really want the Harrier but figure it can wait a bit while they add more features. Or I may just give myself a present and get it anyway :) Will see ... So far so good, a lot of this is familiar to me from Falcon BMS. At first the HUD was unreadable but I found some links to modify and its much better now. Have not done much beyond a few training missions but am looking forward to moving some mud soon! :joystick:
  20. Is there any chance this fantastic mission will get updated for 1.5.x? I miss it :noexpression:
  21. Awesome, thanks for all the replies! I think I see an A10 in my future :) Also glad to see good things about the Viggen - I never even knew it existed until recently and have seen a couple of videos on it, looks like a pretty slick package. The Harrier is another favorite of mine, but as has been pointed out its not quite finished and I generally dont have the patience for that so think I will wait on that one. I spent a fair amount of time with Falcon back in the day so am familiar with CCIP/RP, Mavericks etc. and a steep learning curve doesn't scare me too much :)
  22. So I have been a simmer for a long time - since the days of Aces of the Pacific (remember that gem?!) and have always loved ground pounders. Currently I have BS2, Huey, and the P51 and am considering adding a modern jet to the mix. Not really a fan of dog fighting, mostly because I am terrible at it. :megalol: The A10 is pretty high on the list so far as its always been a favorite, and I know that any of them can technically do some ground pounding but a lot of the offerings I am not really familiar with - that being said can anybody offer some input on which might be the most specialized in that area?
  23. That's pretty sweet! Looks like a fun project.
  24. :smilewink: I wouldnt even know where to start! Having the stick in the center did feel more natural but without some sort of rig my only option is on my desk off to the side. I have thought about some sort of platform to hold the cyclic which should not be too complicated. I forgot to mention, before we took off the pilot explained the range of motion is about the size of a quarter. And that is what I found, its tiny! Nothing at all what a huey must be like.
  25. So my surprise birthday present was one of those helicopter tours. But this one had the option to take over the controls for a short time. My girlfriend knows what a flying geek I am, what with all the crazy hardware and time I spend on sims so she thought (correctly!) that I would enjoy it. It was a Robinson R22 and had a Tee stick which was sort of weird, talking to the pilot he said that he preferred a stick but the Tee is good for training. One thing that struck me was the way I could actually feel the ground effect when we hit it - and I can see why it's difficult to model it in a game. And transnational lift - although the way sims like DCS Huey have the wobble effect does a pretty good job of that. Anyway my thought was that their idea of letting me take the controls is my hand on the stick while they really do everything. Yes and no - once we got up a decent height he asked if I was ready and said "Its all yours". And it was. Mostly, I could tell he still controlled the collective and rudder but I really did have the stick. He would say things like "See that red building over there? Head towards that". He let me do that for quite a while as we headed back to the airfield and while we were descending he wasnt saying anything like "I got it" so I sort of panciked and blurted out "You are going to land this thing, right?!" :noexpression: He laughed and took over but for a while there, with the runway in sight and getting closer I thought the guy might be crazy or something. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it to anyone with the means and interest in this hobby.
