  1. I have had the NLR Motion Platform V3 for about 5 years, purchased used off Ebay at half the retail price. The only issue I have had was with the PCB. I got a replacement through NLR for $400. The the tech support was very responsive. I recently modified my DIY flight simulator to be a full rig motion (2D) with the V3 using 80/20 15 series profiles. I made a base with a boom for the pedals. The base attaches directly to the NLR V3. My seat is constructed of 3/4" plywood with a slide base attached to the profile base. So far this is working very well. The only thing missing is Heave. I can configure the rig for fixed wing or rotary wing. Stick base, throttle, collective and panel are from Virpil Controls, the pedals are from Slaw Device, and the stick grip is from Thrustmaster.
  2. razo+r, I completely understand what you are saying, but I am concerned that 2.5.6 OB will install itself over the top of 2.5.5 Release, it's been a while since I did a fresh install, but I assume I can re-direct the install location. Since I have 2.5.6 OB backed up on another drive, I would rather copy it back and manually complete the install to another directory on the same SSD.
  3. razo+r what is the procedure, specifically to install 2.5.6 Open Beta with my current 2.5.5 release, can you point me to the specific instructions
  4. Is it possible to have both 2.5.5 Release and 2.5.6 Open Beta, rather than switching between them by running the DCS Updater.exe I have switched back and forth between 2.5.5 Release, 2.5.5 Open Beta & 2.5.6 Open Beta. Going back from 2.5.6 OB to 2.5.5 OB or Release causes an issue with the A-10C module License. I currently running 2.5.5 Release, I have 2.5.6 Open Beta backed up on another drive. What is the procedure to install and update 2.5.6 OB along side 2.5.5 Release without affecting the Release version. I want to create a desktop link to each DCS.exe and run the stable version or test the latest beta version. I have searched the forum and only found how to switch installations but nothing on a dual installation.
  5. I have been doing VR since the original Oculus Developer Kits, I have the Rift CV1 and the Rift S and considering the hp reverb. my system is an ASUS B150 Pro D3, i7-6700K quad core 4 Ghz, 32 GB DDR3 1866, Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD SATA3, EVGA RTX 2080 ti Black I currently have all DCS settings set to High, PD = 1.5 and I am getting 40 fps in VR, 60 fps on monitor only. I have also run VR with the EVGA GTX 1080 and EVGA GTX 1080 ti SC2. The 1080 ti made a huge difference. at minimum you want 30 fps in VR to make it acceptable. I have worked Modeling, Simulation & Analysis for USAF over the past 40 years, the early VR helmets we had in the late 1990's to 2000's were very crude in comparison to what we have at the consumer level today, and those helmets cost upwards of $10K each. From my testing, you need at least an i7, 16GB or greater RAM, SSD or M.2 drive and most importantly a GTX 2080 ti or greater. so build your system as you can afford to do so, starting with a flexible MB.
  6. 2.5 Open Beta I have DCS 2.5 Release installed, can I download and install the 2.5 Open Beta as well so I can get to the F-16 that I purchased during the pre-buy
  7. So, I downloaded & installed the Oculus Tray Tool. played with the ASW settings but did not seem to make much difference in my case. In Auto or Off, I mostly saw 45fps unless I looked up into blue sky then it would vary from 45 fps to 90 fps, in external view it jumped up to 90 fps and rarely falling back to 45 fps, based upon my testing the cockpit display has a huge impact on the frame rate. I need to play with other option settings, or just start low and tweak upward until the frame rate starts to break. Even at 45 fps everything appears fairly smooth. My other wish would be able to run the Oculus Rift CV1 without having to run the Oculus Home App. In the interim I have set it to run as Admin which means I can close it after I acknowledge the warning statement. As a point of comparison, I have been working in the Modeling & Simulation world for 40 years, I have developed and flown many military sims over the years, worked with one of the first HMD's for simulators back in the 90's, DCS is an amazing virtual environment, the cockpits and aircraft flight dynamics are very realistic, as the environment grows and becomes more complex so does the requirement for higher performance hardware.
  8. Thanks guys! I will test it in both OFF and AUTO setting to see what difference it makes on my system.
  9. Madmann, thanks for the info, I assume I have a profile since Oculus forces you to create a login, so to get to the profile I just need to run the Oculus Tray Tool.
  10. I also have a CV1, I was getting alot of "freezes" with my current system, AMD 8 Core, 16GB & GTX -1080 so I decided to an upgrade to an Intel I7-6700K (works with DDR3) CPU, DDR3 1866 32GB RAM, SSD, I also bit the bullet and bought the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1080 TI SC 11GB, but got it before Bit Coin drove up the price by 30%. I no longer have "freezes" of any kind, very smooth performance, Pixel Density 1.5 up to 2.0, still very smooth. cockpit displays are very sharp for me, the older aircraft models, like F-15C, are not as good as the newer one's, A-10C & F-86F, P-51D. I tested my frame rate, I am getting a constant 45fps, if I pitch up to clear sky it jumps to 90 which suggests that the ASW is on, I ran the Oculus Debug Tool which show's the ASW as disabled, which is strange because I am not getting any frame rates between 45 & 90 fps, If it is capable of 90fps it jumps directly to 90fps otherwise it is always 45fps which is by definition what ASW enabled does. I would really like to test various settings in DCS and impact on frame rate.
  11. I had similar issues with 20./2.2 freezing, but did not hve the same issues in 1.5. At the time I was running on 8-core AMD CPU, 32 GB DDR3, EVGA NV.IDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB, a fairly hiigh-end PC. I also have an Oculus CV1. I got tired of the freezing so I decided to upgrade a little, I have used AMD for many years but decided to give Intel a try, I7-6700K (works with DDR3) CPU, same DDR3 1866 32GB RAM, I also bit the bullet and bought the EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1080 TI SC 11GB, but got it before Bit Coin drove up the price by 30%. I now no longer have freezes of any kind, the majority of settings are set to High, Pixel Density up to 2.0, frame rate is a flatline 45 fps, if I pitch up into blue sky it jumps to 90. I ran the Oculus Debug Tool to turn off the ASW but it was already off, so I am a little confused that I don't see any frame rates between 45 and 90 which tells me that ASW must be clamping anything below 90 fps to 45fps. amessh
  12. here are my current system specs: MB: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.O CPU: AMD AM3+ FX-8350 B.2 Ghz MEM: 16GB DDR3 1866 GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 (8 GB GDDR5) HD: SSD OCULUS RIFT CV1, HOTAS WARTHOG, MFG CROSSWIND I currently have my DCS settings set to the VR defaults, I have the pixel density set to 1.5 so far I have only been testing in 1.5 fly the F-15C, Instant Action, Free Flight, head due north away from all detail, I go from 45 fps to 90 fps when I reach the area of no detail. In the area of detail it can vary from 25 - 60 ish fps. fly the A-10C, Instant Action, any, in the detailed area it can vary from 15 - 30 fps, if I head over water, areas of lesser detail I can get 30+ fps. fly the F-86F, Instant Action, Free Flight, in the detailed area is similar to A-10C. still trying to figure out this engine, sometimes when I increase a particular detail setting the fps improves. I need to start on all low and PD = 1.5, increase ea individually and note the performance impact. This could take a while. I may consider an upgrade to the EVGA GTX-1080 Ti SC2, even though my GTX-1080 SC is only a few months old. my goal is a solid 60 fps!
  13. The PassMark Videocard Benchmarks gives the GeForce GTX 1080 a score of 11,984 and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti a score of 12,952, this is only a little over an 8% improvement, so I question is it really dumping your GTX 1080 for the GTX 1080 Ti, may be better to stick with the GTX 1080 until the next generation comes out. my current system specs: MB: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.O CPU: AMD AM3+ FX-8350 B.2 Ghz MEM: 16GB DDR3 1866 GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 (8 GB GDDR5) OCULUS RIFT CV1, HOTAS WARTHOG, MFG CROSSWIND I currently have my DCS settings set to the VR defaults, I have the pixel density set to 1.5 In the F-15C, Instant action "Free Flight" I turn north and climb out to clear sky and over terrain with no features, i.e. buildings, roads, etc. As I get away from everything my frame rate climbs to 90+, when I RTB the frame rate drops to 45 and below. I have tried varying the DCS settings but it only gets worse. Are there optimal settings in the Nvidia control panel that are optimal for the Oculus Rift?
  14. not sure exactly what I did but getting farther now. I am getting DCS to come up but the screen is black so I assume there is an issue with the Nvidia graphics card/driver so I am now looking into that. amessh
  15. Tango, I believe you, I have Win 7 on two computers at work, I just don't like the desktop, I prefer the XP interface. XP is much better for developers. Linux is even better for performance, less junk running in the background. I develope A/C simulation for USAF on both x86 & x64 platforms using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 C++. The problem I am having is similar to when the app is missing support lib's, but there is no error message. ALDEGA, so if I understand you, the DCS World installer will install the appropriate DCS version for the platform, x86 or x64, and the appropriate version of Visual C++ redist. if I can't find someone who has done the same successfully I may have to break down and get Win 7 x64. thanks for your help! amessh
  16. SOBEK, the install completed without error, so I assume the install was complete. which verison of Win XP x64 is it compatible with. Tango, I did not see a link to the 64 bit version. I hate Win 7, I have gotten farther with the Win 32 ( Win XP SP3), but when I launch into Instant Action with the free demo the video eventually freezes before it comes up. I have seen other posts on running on Win XP x64 SP2. amessh
  17. I have been trying to install DCS successfully on Window XP x64 SP2. I follow the instructions exactly. installing DCS, Directx9c & and the 2010 C++ re-distribution. after installation when I attempt to run the CMD window flashes up for a second and shuts down and nothing! what are the other details missing from this install. Which version of the re-distro is required Win 32 or Win 64. Thanks for any help! Amessh
