  1. You are referring to the Goodyear F2G Corsair, aka the Super Corsair, powered by a P&W R-4360 Wasp Major. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodyear_F2G_Corsair We won't be getting a four bladed prop as that was only ever fitted to the F4U-4, we are getting the F4U-1D variant. Hopefully in the future we will get the -4 but it wouldn't be a for a while, along with the prop another major change was a complete redesign of the cockpit (layout, a floor and a new canopy to name a few) which would have to be modelled virtually from scratch I imagine.
  2. How many people do you know who have had a house been built with no money exchanging hands before building starts… come back with a better retort or better yet just don’t come back at all. Patience is a virtue, add it to your repertoire and you will be all the better for it
  3. Common courtesy to just let them get on with the job rather than deal with entitled moaners
  4. Maybe they aren’t arrogant tools or maybe they weren’t spoilt enough
  5. Guys from the updates it is currently going through a second round of internal testing or will be soon! Just be patient
  6. Agreed together with the PBY Catalina, would love to have her in DCS. I read an article about some of her unusual quirks, apparently they had to raise the wing as it wasn’t high enough to avoid wave’s hitting the prop which meant that the centre of gravity was affected and if you pushed the throttle too quickly it had a tendency to nose down.
  7. I think the real unsung hero of the Pacific is the us navy submarines, the shear amount of military and transport/cargo they accounted for is impressive.
  8. If you are going top talk about Being there when it happened, then the truth is that it wasn't the Hellcat or the Corsair. The real damage was done at the Battle of Midway and that means the Grumman F4F Wildcat, Grumman TBF Avenger and most importantly the Douglas SBD Dauntless. The importance of the loss of highly trained experienced Pilots cannot be understated. After that it was the F4U in the Solomans, which importance is I think a bit underrated and the F6F at the Marians Turkey Shoot however as stated the damage was already done at the Battle of Midway. P.S. I really hope we get a F4F someday, it was used well into 1945 with FM-2 version.
  9. Stumbled on a declassified report from the commanders of USS Yorktown which includes a comparison of the F4U (Labelled as the Goodyear built FG-1D) and the F6F. Some of the pros and cons took me by surprise. I was under the impression that the F6F was generally thought of as the better carrier based aircraft but points C, D, E, and G make it seem like it wasn’t as clear cut as I had come to understand. Points B, I, and J highlight the ruggedness and ease of maintenance of the Hellcat over the Corsair. Point F kind of contradicts Point E a bit in regards to wing spreading. Link to the entire report… http://www.mansell.com/Resources/special_files/FOLD3/Carrier Air Group 88 - Reports 1944-08-18to1945-10-25.pdf Anyway thought it made some interesting points. I hadn’t heard anything about tail wheel failures on the Corsair before now, I guess it was an unfortunate issue that came about when they increased the length to improve forward visibility. Point H also surprised me, I thought that the Hellcat beat the Corsair in terms of fuel consumption but this doesn’t seem to be true, however the Corsair only had 237 gal internally compared to the Hellcats 250 Gal.

    -3 or -5?

I don’t recall the Zero being better at climbing, it’s pretty average as far as I recall

    -3 or -5?

I was reading an account of an experienced F4U pilot who was dragged into a slow turn fight and he admitted he was very lucky to get out alive. Given that it is supposedly significantly better at turning than a spit I could see frustrated DCs pilots making the same mistake constantly.

To confound matters here are F4U-1Ds with a Mk8 mod 8 gunsight with the oval reflector removed, you can see they retained the turn and slip indicator and it looks to use the armoured glass as the reflector. I think you can see the slip indicator without oval reflector. This is what I was hoping to see modelled.

The latest images show the mk8 mod 8 gunsight implemented. You can see more information on their website on the most recent update… https://magnitude-3.com/2023/11/04/2023-annual-update/

It is very hard to tell from the grainy images that are available however I have found one image of a USS Gilbert Island escort carrier in 1945 clearly showing the oval reflector.
  15. That was based on the -4 I believe not the -1D

I don't have the Dana Bell book with me at the moment however this extract I found online indicates that some people preferred the "Project 108" reflector. I quite liked the idea of not having the bulky reflector mount on the Mk8 reflector!

Thanks Rudel that is really interesting, I haven't seen this setup before. Could it be they introduced this with the introduction of rockets, the Turn and Slip indicator would certainly make rocket and bomb runs easier?

The mk8 can be seen in the latest shots, they have now added the armoured glass which doubled up as a reflective glass, however they have yet to remove (I assume) the original reflector glass. they needed to remove the original glass when they raised the seat position to improve the forward view. Grab from off eBay from Dana Bells excellent book (part 2) on the F4U, I highly recommend his books, which shows the difference between the F4U-1 and F4U-1A/D. It looks like the -1A had a few different setups where the pilots installed different modifications to improve the height of the reflection. This seems to have been avoided with the -1D armoured glass. Please correct me if I am wrong!
  19. It would be great to see the likes of the Ki-61, N1K and Ki-84 to mix things up a bit. Certainly the latter two were a match against a F6F and F4U. Having only one type which underperforms would be a nightmare, in a spit on the western front without a P-51 or a P-47 around to chase off the pesky Bf109K or distract them would be a nightmare. I think this factored into ED choosing to model the F6F-3. Question is, is there enough information out there to model them!
  20. Hopefully it will only be a matter of time.
