  1. Hi People, I am posting this because I thought that the "Take-off assistance" option in the WW2 birds was defaulting to 100 at apparently random moments. Reading other posts to try and find the cause, I was directed to check the options.lua file in the "saved games" Config directory and, by pure chance, only the free modules (TF-51 and SU-25) appeared in the file. This was because the last time I launched DCS I did not log in. The TF-51 had the take-off assistance at 0, but not seeing the other planes made me suspicious. So I logged in properly the next time, and there it was, the new options.lua file now had all my modules, and all the WW2 planes had defaulted to 100 except for the TF-51. I was positive that at least the Spitfire was at 0 the last time. So I set it to 0 and then repeated launching DCS without logging in, exiting and logging in the next time, and once again, the take-off assistance of all planes went back to 100 (except the TF-51 :) ) I hope this heads up is useful to avoid some frustration, especially because you will be thinking that ED has changed the planes' FM! Happy new year!! :holiday:
  2. Attaching the last log file. Cheers dcs.log.txt
  3. Thanks Ian for all your help. I can now play without crashes, at least I have done a couple of 45 minutes missions from T/O to landing. The pity is I can't pinpoint the issue I was having (hopefully it will not appear anymore). All the things I have done are: - Increase swapfile, now minimum is the same as maximum, set at 48Gb - Updated GPU BIOS - Uninstalled Nvidia drivers with DDU from safe mode and installed version 3.99 - Uninstalled DCS and installed it again (now the stable version) I still get a lot of errors of the "VTI loading slice error" in the log file, but I have no idea of what this might mean, the game seems to work perfect. 2018-09-30 16:03:16.023 ERROR DX11BACKEND: Can't open texture land_16_57_30.png for texture array at index 1663. 2018-09-30 16:03:16.036 ERROR EDTERRAINGRAPHICS41: VTI loading slice error. ???
  4. Ian, thanks for taking the time for your detailed answer! Today I tried the swapfile again, I would swear I did reboot after changing it, see picture of what I put today in any case (it also asked for a reboot today). I added a swapfile in the SDD that has the sim's folders, (I wonder if that was intelligent :smartass:) Surprisingly I managed a complete mission with no crashes... So I checked the log and all the unusual errors you pointed out still appear, but none of the GPU ones. So that kind of points to the Nvidia drivers as a probable cause. This weekend I will do a clean install of DCS, and also install the Nvidia drivers using DDU. Looks promising  I'll post any weird things that keep happening. Thx! dcs.log.txt
  5. Ian, thanks a lot for your answer! I tried increasing the page file, it was set at a miserable maximum of 2900Mb, but unfortunately the game crashed again after 20 minutes. The log file for this crash is wierd, it's nearly empty. I have a feeling that my DCS installation is corrupt in some way or other. I just realised that I can't activate the labels on the aircraft or vehicles (actually the crash happened when I pressed Lshift+F10 to activate labels on vehicles, pure chance?), and I'm also remembering that flying the P-51 the other day was too easy, no torque on take off at all, even with autorudder off and take off assistance at 0... Too many freaky issues, I'll just go for a full clean installation and see if that helps. Thanks again! dcs.20180925-210505.zip
  6. :helpsmilie: Hi All, I have reached my frustration point with constant crashes in all maps I have, Nevada, Caucasus and Normandy. 5 to 10 minutes into a mission the game will crash (unless I crash first :music_whistling: ) at times with a BSOD, but normally it will just quit to Windows. I've tried: - reinstalling GPU drivers, - repairing DCS, - removing all USB inputs except HOTAS, rudder and track IR, and no difference. I will now uninstall the Beta and move to the stable version as my next attempt, but just in case, I wanted to post 3 of the last crashes to see if I can get some feedback or if they could turn out to be useful for the devs. By the way, Windows 10 and DCS are up to date also. I can't pinpoint any changes in my system which could be causing the crashes, so before the attached crashes happened I tried first: - removing the OC in my GPU (GTX1070) -> no improvements, first attached crash - next I reduced Visibility and Textures to make it easier for the GPU -> no improvements, second attached crash - finally I uninstalled Tacview (just a wild guess as I installed it recently), but naturally, no improvements... Any ideas will be more than welcome, thanks! dcs.log-20180923-204126.zip dcs.20180923-210840.zip dcs.20180924-181240.zip
  7. Hi, I have the same issue with a Teensy board simulating a USB joystick contoller. Also once my engines switched off, so after reading these posts I think it has also affected my hotas. Both work ok with other programmes, so I find it strange that they are both now faulty... I think something like the hot plug-in may be affecting these controllers, but I am no expert. If they power on and off, shouldn't the hardwired switches come back at their current position, not a different one? If they could be useful I can send logs as soon as I get home. Cheers and thanks for your support.
  8. Hi Flyco, Did you get any feedback on this issue? I am getting the same issue with a Teensy board joystick controller. I think it is similar to some of your inputs. It worked perfect before the upgrade to 1.5.4 and now I get these random pulses that switch off the systems that I have mapped to my Teensy joystick. As you say, it can be 5 minutes into the game or after a full hour. Regards
  9. Hi, yes, confirmed that the cockpit floodlight is not working.
  10. Hi, the same thing happens in the P 51D at least with the cockpit light's knob. I haven't tried yet the links shared above by CKYBGI. Cheers
  11. Hi Wing47, thanks for the answer. Never thought about my lift vector during a turn (that's my noob side), usually I've had enough just trying to keep a nice coordinated turn without bleeding away energy... Also, lots of people seem to use flaps, I will practice turns adding a notch or two of flaps, do flaps improve your turning rate? Always thought the speed lost didn't justify using flaps, but seems I am wrong. Thanks for the links, I had one of the books, good to have another one, they are quite comprehensive documents!
  12. Hi all, nice post here with some real good tips. I'm eager to go try some of them, but unfortunately I don't have much time for practice because I tend to have the bandit at my six... :helpsmilie: I'd really appreciate some tips for that moment when you can see the bandit is not only behind you but is also turning better than you, what evasive maneuver do you think is best? I tend to go into an s-turn, but I just don't think it's the best unless you are planning to run like hell. Tuco mentioned at the beginning of the post climbing and cutting your throttle, is that a good choice?? The AI Dora does something similar from time to time, but as that is the moment I can get more hits, I don't feel comfortable doing it myself... :joystick:
  13. I'm glad to see the F-14 as the second most voted, maybe it will be the next one :smilewink: Always had a crunch for the Tomcat. Cheers
  14. Interesting post Charly Owl. Been asking myself similar questions recently! Merlin, when you say that you typically use throttle, I understand that means you have RPM's at maximum power? In general, watching videos, I haven't played MP, I get the feeling that the most common option chosen is having your RPM's always at maximum (please note it is only a feeling!). By the way, using torque in your turns means that you prefer to turn left? :joystick: Thanks!
  15. Wow, think I'll go practice some more dead stick landings! I usually also need some extra power to reach the threshold, that means there's some room for practice there!! Thanks Echo38
