  1. Did the Spit or German warbirds get a suspension update too? I shelved the Mossie until the bouncing tailwheel gets fixed; nauseating in VR. Haven't tried the Jug since the update. The P-51 felt great to me except for differential braking on sharp turns, where it likes to nose over more than the Spit does. Which logically should be reversed considering the Spit is far more nose-heavy than the Pony is.

  2. Can confirm. With TGP already loaded, conducting a refuel/rearm will turn the TGP OFF until you cycle the power switch.

If the TGP is NOT loaded at time of rearm, this makes sense. However if the TGP is already loaded, then the rearming should not affect it.

Another interesting note: Powering on TGP after cold start, the TGP will default to on (either A-A or A-G depending). However, after rearming, TGP defaults to STBY.

Worth noting, AFAIK most Hornet sorties in Afghan flew from land bases. It's a landlocked country with enough US-friendly territory on its borders that flying directly from a carrier would've been a waste of fuel.

No. Hornets and Tomcats were employed from Enterprise and Vinson in the North Arabian Sea, then Roosevelt and Stennis joined.

  4. Yes this is still an issue. On multiplayer you are guaranteed to get "delayed to start" on the first Tomcat slot you select unless using the Forrestal, or unless the Supercarrier has 10+ open spawn points. Any less than 10 open spawn points and you will get delayed to start because the spawn slot sizing is screwed up over MP. Grimes acknowledged this in Nov.2022 and yet we still don't have a fix for either the overweight bug nor the delayed to start bug.

  5. I use the old -18C models for deck statics as they don't impact performance, unlike the Lot20 which will destroy framerates in VR.

However, with the wings folded the collision model still appears to think the wings are unfolded. Note the distance between my nose and the wing fold. At this distance I hit the static's collision model despite there not being anything physically there. Static UH-60s have the same problem with the folded tail.

The only way to get maximum rate is by using the manual mode one g.

Sweep at Commence is manual mode at 1G, yet it takes 8 seconds.

On the deck after a trap is manual mode at 1G. Also takes 8 seconds.

  7. Knob on the throttle is also manual, and the E-sweep lever moves with it.

If my math is right then 15deg/sec going from 20 to 68 should take 3.2 seconds. When straight and level on CASE I commence it takes 8 seconds. I wonder what makes it so slow in DCS.

  8. Rudder coordination is nuanced. It's more important in props, gliders, and helos. In jets it's only a thing at higher AoA. Per T-38/F-5/T-45/AV-8B pilots I've talked with "stepping on the ball isn't a thing in jets," and those specific jets are just as analog as the Tomcat.

Unless at high AoA in the Tomcat I see no adverse/proverse yaw, and am able to fly smoothly, precisely, and coordinated without rudder usage by "flying the cross." In other words, not blending pitch and roll inputs. Trying to coordinate it as I would a warbird gives me worse results than simply leaving my feet on the floor.

A lot of people see "Tomcat needs rudder at high AoA" and completely ingore the qualifying statement of "at high AoA," and parrot a one-size-fits-all rule that doesn't actually fit all sizes. It doesn't help that the aircraft in question has a lot of lore and a kind of mysticism around it that makes it seem artificially special compared to other aircraft when--in this specific case--it isn't.

This will be coupled with a new proximity fuse model that accounts for Doppler closing speed, modified seekers, and a more realistic interaction model between the missile and the supporting radar. This will be done within the larger MiG-29 project framework. Other missile types will also be developed in the same way.

I hope these missile developments are done in parallel to all missiles, BLUFOR included, else we'll get OP MiG-29 weapons and the trashy BLUEFOR weapons we have now that are so easily defeated by wing rocking and seemingly have no CCM programming.

  10. Roughly 4.6 seconds to 68.

In DCS, selecting BOMB then immediately AFT takes almost 8 seconds.

Unsweep in the video also approximately 8 seconds, in DCS on the carrier break selecting AUTO takes 10 seconds.

Unless there's something special to the D or DFCS Tomcats, our DCS version has some timing issues on sweep/unsweep.
