I'm using a stick without springs, so it doesn't recentre when taking my hand off and I'm using the correct trimmer option. No return spring in the pedals either. Don't get me wrong, I can fly it. But need to constantly babysit it with corrections even with the hold modes on.

My God you are flying the anti Christ itself with that config! 🙂

    Is Auto hover a nightmare?

  2. Are all you posters force feedback joysticks users?

Perhaps force feedback at this level of detail just cannot be done without big bucks?

With a standard stick I can drop her into a hover fast, trim her clean to hover and activate auto hover.

In auto hover she drifts a little but corrects nicely and is without doubt realistic to my needs within a very tight firing position.

Or perhaps there is a software correction required that does not kill our standard centering stick inputs.

  3. But without doubt!

I am truly looking forward to laying my hands on a collective that has so much switchery, analogue adjustability, and so many 4 way hats that it is beyond belief!

The DCS AH-64D and the Physical Virpil collective, Total controls MPDs have literally caused a massive change in my virtual pit.

  4. It has to be one of the most challenging collectives to build.

There are sooo many switches, hats & analogue hats that need to be squeezed into such a small collective, it must be a nightmare. it is basically 2 collectives in one unit.

    I am waiting wallet ready!

No left rudder on takeoff...pedals pushed left FULL! ... (0-100' no left rudder) (100'+ rudder is ok on both left and right).

    Warthog Combo with 3.5" extension.

    Rudder axis config:     Dead zone 5       X sat 100        Y sat 100       Curve - 0

    Collective axis config:     Dead zone 3       X sat 100        Y sat 100       Curve - 0  (invert)

    y axis config:     Dead zone 5       X sat 100        Y sat 100       Curve - 15

    x axis config:     Dead zone 5       X sat 100        Y sat 100       Curve - 15

    Please advise

Remove the saturation and dead zones in your pedals. Pedal work must always be instantaneous and a proportional to your actual leg work. The pedals must be adjusted quickly and smoothly in response to your collective adjustments.

Remove all dead zones and saturation from your collective, this is a simple linear adjustment that does not need any curves or saturation.

It does sound like a pedal assignment conflict to me.

  6. I hope Virpil do something bespoke for the AH-64D apache collective base unit and do not use the standard chopper collective unit.

For me, It feels painfully long waiting for the 64D collective to be released.

  7. I think this is the first module I have bought where I am thinking that 60% of the awesomeness of the AH-64D can only be found online in multiplayer.

I was fine playing SP with all other modules, but in the Apache, George works but he does not utilise the 64D’s capabilities to its full.

The Kiowa and longbow net will simply reinforce the need for MP play for me.

How is ED’s voice com maturing?

  8. if you have problems on the Huey... which is the easiest chopper to fly in DCS, then yes go through all your axis bindings and keyboard bindings.

DCS has an annoying habit of automatically assigning functions to your Hotas system when it boots up for the first time.

This automatic assignment is helpful to not one sim pilot.... except maybe a warthog pilot with a Thrustmaster Warthog joystick and throttle.

  9. As Devrim says.

We have waited long and hard for this module and even though I have had little time on the 64D (a shameful 100+), I come back to it time and again and it is a challenging weapon to fly.

For me it is the best helicopter flight model in DCS and all the gadgetry, bells and whistles are a true delightful bonus.

  10. No curves.

    No Saturation

Just raw analogue input. centre stick, 10cm cyclic extension on my airframe.

Balance the cockpit's centre sill to horizon as you increase collective, This is Roll I am talking about.

Balance roll via the pedals only. Right pedal leans left and left pedal leans right.

Start pedal right, as you increase collective, smoothly increase the left pedal to balance the airframe's natural roll to righ( ignore the hover digital display), keep increasing left pedal as you increase collective. hold the centre sill level with the horizon.

Increase collective until wheels light. ensure your centre sill is horizontal with the horizon. When the roll is done right, you will simply drift off the ground..... it is all pedal work with this girl.

The airframe will naturally hang right low & tail low in hover.... but this will become apparent as you drift off the ground and may need simple cyclic adjustment.

I just think she is the best chopper in DCS!

Hover and BoB up digital displays are advisory only, what you are hiding behind is the primary point of reference in day light.

Night time manoeuvres is whole different level!

  11. Yes indeed a lovely update, an entirely new chopper to learn. It almost upsets me that the Kiowa may not be in the same league for agility.

Loved my last flight with the AP off....  light weight fluidity! You simply rode the weight of the machine.

Fabulous work Polychops and done the right way!

I am sure there is more work to do..... but Bravo Polychops!

    Bravis!

  12. FCR & Datalink will take a while.

Personally, and I mean personally, I love the FM. Taking off into a hover is lovely and dynamic. Hovering is beautiful, a rolling take off is predictable.

Rolling the airframe into a turning curve is very nice, pedal work holds the descent/climb very accurately, collective tightens the corner just lovely, with a bit of pedal compensation....  obvie 🙂 !

The auto hover SCAS gets the job done.. it has a tendency to wonder a bit when activated. As long as you can predict the velocity of wonder that the BoB up scale displays and keep an eye on where it wonders then it is generally very very reliable and almost always returns to your point of auto hover activation. Pedal work in auto hover is much nicer now.

I tend to like a firing position where both flanks are covered, I like a small confined firing position.

  13. Very nice FM update.

Very hard getting used to the increased throw of the Cyclic, weaker collective and the large pedal displacement required to fly this bird... but I will learn a new muscle memory on this airframe.

Hover is very nice and controllable, a quick instantaneous right pressure on the cyclic to push the main rotor out of equilibrium and ride the resulting drift is very nice.... almost as good as the Apache.

Cockpit looks fantastic and the moving reflections (due to head movement) on the glazing is superb.

  14. For me the Apache is all about Pedal work at take off.

If you get the pedals wrong as the collective increases then the entire airframe tilts.

If the airframe tilts, then the main rotor tilts, if the main rotor tilts then you are increasing a massive force in the direction of the tilt. There is no give in the swashplate... only solid Hydraulic oil.

A touch of left trim on the cyclic and pedals to level roll as the collective increases is all that is needed.

If I remember correctly right pedal leans left and left pedal leans right.... I tend to apply it as I see it.

Yep, this has been reported. It is happening during manual start sequences and auto-start sequences. George is switching it to AUTO during his start-up checklist. It's been reported.

What is the fix when spooled and hot to trot?

I have no experience in the CPG seat. I gotta switch what off now?

  16. I am not surprised that the CH-47 beat the blackhawk into DCS.

For me the blackhawk is a "very expensive" Middle weight chopper that just barely beats the Huey UH-1Z.

It is well overpriced for its purpose and this shows in its sales. Both internally of the US of A and including its dependant countries that receive large military aid.

The CH-47 is just America when America was the gold standard!

It is simply a superb airframe no matter what weight of junk you stick on it!

    Fabulous airframe!

  17. I hope the new upgrade is more stable but has the same personality.... if that makes sense.

A bit of airframe roll in the pedals, auto pilots not as strong/dominant as European choppers!

Auto hover a little flimsy.... I like that.

What is the pedal like in autohover, is it easier to overcome the directional auto pilot with a pedal left or right to rotate the nose onto a new fire zone?

Hope to fly her in a day or two.
