  1. I just dial in the takeoff runway to HSI and that usually is all I need 90% of the time to navigate myself to the right area. I also pull up chart on IPAD Warthog app which helps for some airports, or of course...print out the charts/bases. Really nice for F10 disabled servers on bigger airbases, especially in-bunker starts.

Oh, and before anyone says that using an IPAD for charts is cheating...think again...

American Airlines is switching over...I imagine other companies and maybe our own military may follow suit of digital 'tablet' maps as well.....

Then again in real life you have ground control frequency which could assist...not yet modeled in DCS...our DCS ATC is pretty primitive as is....maybe in due time...

  2. Hi.

I know that A-10 suck at this, but none the less.. This is the mission.

atm I am unsure what weapon to use. Maverick seems like the only viable option tho..

    This is however the problem:

We use 65G, but we are struggling to get lock. When I get close enough I get a lock, but for some reason the Mav dont fire. You have any ideas why not?

We get a lock with 65d, but they are not strong enough...

What mavericks do you use against big ships?

Use force correlate. It's designed like that to get a lock on large targets like buildings.

  3. Anybody have tools for actually finding and catching up with the tanker? I was playing the "Hideout" mission and needed to gas up, but of course KC-135s have no TACAN. AWACs gave me bullseye of the tanker so I went there, and saw two or three contrails circling about and literally had to guess. Then I spent then next 20 minutes chasing the damn contrail because I can't fly any faster than the tanker at 25,000ft even with a clean airframe and low fuel...

That is just bad mission making.

  4. How long do you guys normally take from say near empty to full tank?

I've been able to get a full tank about 4 times now since I started practicing a few days ago however it involves many disconnects and also take about 15 - 20 minutes which I think is far far too long.

Also interesting to see that probes in RL AAR are usually never extended. You guys do the same?

If you do it with no disconnects it will take about 4-5 minutes from the time of contact. 15 minutes isn't bad. Consider that 1000 lbs of fuel will keep you flying at air-air refueling throttle for about 60 minutes. And it only takes a few seconds to get 1000lbs.

On an 8 or 9 hour long mission, the 30 minutes it takes to refuel is nothing.

  5. It's not on the MFCDs but on the HOTAS. On the TM Warthog it's the button above the china hat button that allows you to change to white/dark hot.

Don't remember the exact denomination fo the button though, sorry :p

    Coolie hat.

  6. I think it was mentioned in "a10s over Kosovo" that the bullseye can change mid mission...

Anyways I'm all new to bullseye references and was wondering if there's a quick method to immediately knowing the location of the bullseye call, or does one must enter it into the offset screen everytime?

Is there a map where the cursor gives reference and distance from bullseye etc?

How do you guys all do it?

    Thanks!

The TAD cursor can give you the distance and radial from bullseye. It's on the top left side of the screen.

  7. IIRC, in OAF, Goldie lost the right side engine due to a shoulder mounted SA-16. He didn't know it was launched until the plane started to go weird. I think RWR is used for radar equipped shooters.

The RWR display doubles as the MWS display. Sometimes the system will not detect a launch if you are flying over clouds or are in such a position that the cameras can't "see" the launch.

As far as countermeasures, semi-auto mode is sometimes useful but it can get confused in a hostile environment. If there is a radar tracking you at the same time an IR missile is shot, the computer may believe that it is a radar guided missile and use the wrong countermeasures.

Typically I will use Auto mode when in normal flight then switch to manual mode when I am running in on targets since I will probably know the battlefield threats better than the computer.

The jammer isn't really useful against the AI. The jammer in DCS reduces the range a radar can get a lock. However, typically the AI will only launch when you are well inside the weapon engagement zone - and well inside the range a radar can get a lock. The missile will not lose track just because you turned on the jammer. As soon as the radar is locked, the jammer is useless.

    Hope that helps.

  8. Why would I increase thrust? Because when I'm approaching with let's say 180 KIAS and I apply full flaps, gear down, 40% speedbrake and 3° nose pitched down towards touch-down point, this configuration burns through speed so fast that i often drop below 120 KIAS and nearly stall. Though probably simply bad airmanship on my part due to lack of experiece i guess - but I'll keep on trying :)

If you're on glide slope you should be able to maintain your rate of descent with just the throttle.

  9. Well I finally got a full tank after several disconnects and about 25 minutes behind the tanker. 20/20 curves. Helps to focus on the velocity vector then the boom color when connected.

I still feel like the boom should have a stabilizing effect. In RL it would give you some resistance.

  10. I don't understand how anyone does this. I can never get the plane as stable as I see in the videos. When I work the throttles a 10 knot difference can add or subtract 5 degrees of pitch which will then require me to move the stick on both the X and Y axis to steady the plane. I can hold it for maybe 30-40 seconds but there is no way I can hold it for the 6-7 minutes required to fill the tank.

Is this even possible with a cheap non-FF stick?

  11. ...but then it would not be a JTAC anymore. :D

The idea of a JTAC or FAC on the ground is to act as your eyes and control YOU (or better the aircraft) to support the ground forces!

I really would like to see an Airforce pilot "commanding" ground forces around in real live... the pilot "may" give you "information" of enemy movements and "suggest" what he thinks useful to do, but most of the time it is: "Hog 3-1, request immediate strafing run from the NE away from my position. Cleared Hot!" and the pilot should do what he was asked to do, as long as it doesn't go against the ROE.

Well it's not exactly realistic for pilots to command entire battalions from the air but it's still an option on the F10 map.

  12. Thanks for the advice, I just find I have a harder time with accuracy in CCIP, but then when I drop CCRP I feel like my spread is too large, is it more of a HOF issue then? I find this the most when using CBU-97's on tank formations/columns

Yeah that's mostly a HOF problem. With CBU 97's spread doesn't matter too much because the bomblets guide themselves to the target and it only takes 1-2 hits to kill a tank.

Because of the way the 97 works the reticle will often be way below the hud. I use 3/9 mode on CCIP so I don't have to dive as steeply to deliver the bomb.

  13. Is there a document anywhere that shows which vehicles can move while firing or what their maximum speed while firing is? I've noticed that the Stryker MGS can't fire while moving at max speed.

Also, is there any way to tell which is the lead vehicle from the F10 map? Sometimes when I want to jump into battle I can't figure out which is the lead vehicle and I end up moving alone.

    Thanks!
