  1. OK, it's been a while and I thought there was a separate PIMAX subforum.  But I don't see it...  This isn't a FOR SALE post so it doesn't belong in the "for sale" forum.

I have PIMAX Sword Controller-  that you can have for free.  I don't know if it matters but I had the Pimax 5K. It's never been used.   Here are the conditions

    0) You will NOT hear from me again unless you've been chosen. So please don't ask me "Did you get my email"

    1) email me at DCS.hansangb   AT google's info gathering...I mean, free email service.   Figure it out, it's not that hard.

    2) SUBJECT should be FREE SWORD CONTROLLER

    3) On Saturday 7 January 2023, I'll randomly pick a winner.

    4) I'll email you with the box dimensions and weight.  You have to create a UPS label (no USPS, no FEDEX) and email it to me.

    5) You have 48 hours to send me the shipping label from the time I sent you the confirmation email (that you've been selected).  After 48 hours, I will choose another person.  So if you send me a label at 49th hour, I'll just delete the email.

    6) Then I'll ship it out to you.

Why am I giving away these 3 things (see my other two posts for 2080TI and Pimax Backer Box).  Because I don't have the Pimax anymore and i was one of the OG kickstart supporter.  And i recently upgraded to 3080Ti so I don't need the 2080Ti.  Just a *small* way of my giving back to the DCS community.  Happy New Year.

  4. I'm familiar with the Oculus Rift, so my opinion may be biased/ignorant, but I find the WMR/Valve software to be clunky and buggy. It's probably me not being familiar with their software, if your a current valve or G1 user you opinion may be different. The usb c port didn't work. Could be my computer? I thought I had a bad headset cause I couldn't get it to power up so I decided to try the USB adapter and that worked.

The visual clarity is the best but I am getting ghosting, for example when I fly over the carrier and look down the aircraft are blurry, when I move my head in the cockpit the instruments go blurry. I don't have that problem with the Rift S.

I am currently running a 1080Ti that may not be enough video card. I have everything turned down to the minimum, I even went to 100% in the valve software and just stared to maintain 45fps but still had ghosting. I would spend the dollars for a better card but have read somewhere of someone with a 3090 having ghosting.

So my opinion after a few hours with the headset is, "It's okay" the visual is the best but it comes at a price. Bad software, ghosting, high video card requirements. I have had to reboot my computer more in the last day than I have the last year because of lockups, mouse problems, and stuttering. I tried P3d and I was way above the aircraft when I activated VR, buggy software. No problems with Oculus it just works.

I have the latest windows and video software with a fairly recent 6 core cpu@ 5.0 ghz, and 32 gig ddr4 ram.

    Regards,

    Daniel

1080Ti would be pushing it. But if you search in this forum, there's a post on how to achieve best performance/look balance. Something like "how to achieve 90fps on 1080ti" or something along those lines.

The idea is that you reduce the resolution for the Vive to push. Also, the Rift *does* have better software setup. Not unexpected since they have such a headstart.

The other thing to consider is that you can control things in WMR and you can control things in SteamVR. So it's best to watch some tutorials or the threads here that explain the differences.

I'll add to the thread after I hook my G2 up. I'll tell you one thing...the cable management is a million times better. And it's more comfortable than G1.

  5.

And it got a cumulative update yesterday - at least on my end.

My Reverb G2 arriving this afternoon sometime, so I will find out soon enough I reckon.

Yeah, got my G2 today. But work got in the way. I'm updating Redmond company's' sim to see if VR support is there yet or not.

But I'd love to see your experience with your BIG HONKIN 3090! :)

I'm seriously thinking about jumping to AMD 5950X (I think that's the one). I do fair amount of video/YT editing so it's tempting. But I'll wait to see if their 6000 video card is at least comparable to 3090. If not, I may go with AMD CPU and 3090.

  6.

    LOL.

I don't really have problems with people who do video's like that, and people who have the time to sit down and enjoy them. Obviously there's been a lot of work and thought put in to make ~3hrs worth of content, and the world is a very diverse with people in all different points in their lives and those video's no doubt serve many people well.

Just that there are others of us who don't have ~3hrs to justify on a single persons review, and I was kinda hoping that someone who did have the time to sit down could have bullet pointed out what they got out from it so me and those like me could still get the basic overview - instead of nothing. That being said, if not - I'm sure there will be other shorter reviews out soon, and I'll be able to glean 4 or 5 different people's opinion in less than an hours view-time. I certainly wasn't attacking the OP's video's - just looking for a summary on what they contain and a summary of the findings, that was all.

Don't forget, you can always crank the video speed to 2X. In general, much much better sweet spot than G1 with better colors and more comfort. Speakers are much better as well. I'm going to test my G2 tomorrow (have G1)

  7. I just ordered a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V7S500), frankly I didn't know what an M.2 drive was until I started to explore my motherboard user book.

The M.2 port was empty and I need more storage, so I thought I might just as well use it, Amazon was selling this 500GB Internal Solid State Drive for £95.00 and I had precisely the same amount of credit on my Amazon Gift Card.

I'm still unsure on how I'm gonna use it but I have to transfer 240GP of data from an old HD to "something else", this will help, my options are; transferring OS to this new drive, transferring Games, including DCS to this new drive, use it as extra storage space.

Here are the motherboard and the SSD data:

    B450 GAMING PLUS MAX

NVMe support, up to 32 Gb/s using PCI-Express Gen3 x4, Supports STORE MI

    970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 500GB

    Capacity

500GB (1GB=1 Billion byte by IDEMA)

    PCIe Gen 3.0 x 4, NVMe 1.3

    Up to 3,500 MB/s

    Average: 5.8 W * Maximum: 9 W (Burst mode) * Actual power consumption

    Power consumption (Idle)

Max. 30 mW * Actual power

You wont see any difference in DCS playing time. I tested DCS on SSD and m.2 with various scenarios And everything was +/- few seconds. Sometimes SSD was faster, sometimes NVMe was faster etc.

But if I had a choice, I would put the OS on the NVMe. If you have most of the modules/maps/DLC from DCS, it'll be pretty close to 500GB with Windows installed. So I'd think carefully before moving DCS onto the new NVMe drive.

  8.

from what ive seen nvidia cnacelled the high vram versions late on and the aibs are NOT happy about it because they were pretty much ready to make them, nobody seems to know why they did it either. its not due to a gddr6x shortage thats for sure

Because having more SKU's makes things complex on the supply side. Because more QA is required when you launch more versions. Because it'll eat into 3090 sales. Because they want to save something for Ti version. Because they want to maintain the banding between the various products w/o making it confusing for customers.

    The above comes to mind.

  9. Ok, so without the base stations, I am limited to 3DOF? I checked on the PiMax store, and the single SteamVR base station is sold out and the product page for the dual base staions says

I'm a bit confused as to what I need to run 6DOF in IL2 and DCS with an Artisan or 5K+. I have been using 6DOF with TIR for over 10 years and Oculus supports 6DOF it natively.

I am guessing you have the base stations?

You can go to ebay and buy any base station. Even the original station that shipped with the original Vive. One base station will give you 6DoF. It's more than enough for DCS. If you want to walk around and do the whole room setup, you should get two.

  10. Any chance of adding the option of going to the last page rather than typing its number? Any I don't mean by entering the thread first to then find that option but rather on the "outside" next to the thread's name:

"Go to the last post" or "Go to the last page".

Pretty much similar to what we had before.

    Cheers!

    EDIT:

    Done! Thanks, ED

"Go to the last last comment" is already there. If you look all the way to the right, you'll see the small blue >> icon. That's the "go to last message"

I'm still waiting to see if we can get our old control panel back. Where all the subscribed forums show up.

  11. I'll get used to it, I suppose. But one question, is there a Control Panel like before? where only my subscribed forums would show up? When I got to My Subscription, it shows individual messages (it looks like) I'll keep poking around, but was wondering if I'm missing something.

  12. Agreed, where the Pimax shines is FOV. I love the large FOV and everytime I put my Rift S back on I'm so underwhelmed even though it has slightly less SDE. I don't get all the hype on the Reverb G2, the extra Pimax FOV for me has been well worth it! In BFM it is much easier to get a tally on the bandit. SAM smoke trails are also easier to spot. Overall my neck gets far less of a workout I've noticed because I don't need to find stuff on the soda straw of the Rift S. See the inbound missiles without smoke trails are still hard though.

I have a similar system and the 3090 has made a big difference for me as well form my 1080 Ti.

Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

It's a matter of priority. Current Reverb has better clarity than 5K+ (I've had both). And G2 is supposed to have better clarity through lens design among other things. As MRTV put it, "blown away" so we'll see.

And of course, I prioritized clarity over wider FoV (and honestly, more mature software)

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I miss the wider FoV

  13. I paid $2049 CAD + tax here in Canada for my Zotac 3090, that was 2 days after the official "Launch" date, from a local store where I've spent $30k in the last few years alone on PC/monitors/etc. I got no discount, just the ability to actually purchase one, the 4 other people who were there picking one up paid the same price I did. That's just over 1200 British pounds, 1324 Euros.

I've got pictures of my receipt to prove that if anyone calls me out (pic of receipt is required to register for Zotac's 3 year warranty online).

Just like a donut receipt, I can't see a scenario where I'll need to see you receipt! WE don't need to bring ink and paper into this! Enjoy your new toy.

    RIP: Mitch.

  14. Having had a Pimax 5K+ before a Reverb the difference in clarity between them is far more significant than the FOV in my experience.

I had both as well. Chose the Reverb. Yes, I miss the FoV. But I don't miss the software (lack) of smoothness. And the Reverb clarity was much more important.

  15. I'm just looking at reviews online. So am I right in saying it's really a choice between the HP Reverb and Oculus Rift S? People seem to be impressed with the sharpness of the image with the Reverb.

Also just out of curiosity. You know how with track ir you quite often have to reset your default/ neutral head position as it sort of looses it's original centre point after a whole bunch of twisting and turning - is that the same with VR headsets or they stay oriented in space relative to the neutral point constantly without having to hit a button to re-center?

Rift S is pretty far behind at this point. I wouldn't even consider Rift S.

  16. I am usually using the 5K so that's my comparison model.

    With the XTal I am running on either 5K with 2x 2560x1440 at 120Hz or 8K with 2x 3840x2160 at 75Hz.

    Cheers

Thanks. I'm thinking the 4790K is going to have a hard time keeping up with the XTal resolutions (either one). If you can share some performance stats, that'd be great.

  17. Heyy Guys

i hope someone can help me. I get bad stutters in DCS. With every stutter the sound lags too. I noticed that the cpu utilization drops with every stutter. No difference between singleplayer or multiplayer. I tried to lower all settings but no difference in stutters.

I disabled hotplug and game dvr.

I play only in VR and with the VR preset settings i got 80fps locked for my rift-s with no ASW.

    My System:

    Zotac RTX 3080

    Ryzen 3700x

    32gb RAM 2400MHz.

    NVMe 1Tb

    thank you

If you go to the the VR thread, you'll likely get a better answer. And in that VR group, there are threads for various HMD (goggle) manufacturers. Be sure to specify which VR you're using.

  18. With most DCS users sharing their flight time among many modules, building an exclusive module cockpit, for me, doesn´t make sense anymore.

But most people who build such pits are not doing it to be practical. It's more a work of love. So I can't imagine that 1% of the 1% sim'ers to change.

  19. What resolution does it come with these days. I know the claim to fame was that even with lower resolution, the lens design made it much more clear. (And demo video seem to bear that out). But which Pimax are you comparing it to?
