  1. Looking at the video, the reflections seem to be related to the reflectivity of the overflown terrain. The same effect can be seen on the underside of the fuselage and wings when you overfly different types of terrain. I first noticed this effect a couple of weeks ago. I agree with Deadpool that perhaps the effect may be scientifically correct, but may be perceived exaggerated to us in the sim and needs tweaking for that reason.
  2. You could try to set the other airfields to neutral or red. It will then not use those. But that will not work if you need those bases for other friendlies, though
  3. Ok, I didn’t realize that... I got this idea by a YouTube vid from ShiftyMover, but he was editing the locations of the highs and lows in that vid... I wrongly assumed that other parameters could be changed as well. Sorry for the false info there...
  4. When you are in the Dynamic Weather tab. Make sure you save the generated weather you have chosen (make a unique name). Then go to: C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\MissionEditor\weather\dynamic (Or the equivalent for your system). Then find your weather file and edit it, I use Notepad++ for editing. Hope this is useful!
  5. Regarding the airplanes speed: I usually look up the max IAS or Mach from the encyclopedia. In ME you set a groundspeed, so I use http://www.hochwarth.com/misc/AviationCalculator.html to find out what GS I need to set to get a certain IAS at a certain altitude. Mind you though, the speed that the airplane will actually fly is also dependend on the programmed wind speed/direction at that altitude. Then I check also in game via F10 to see what angle of attack the airplane has. I regard any AOA over 5° in level flight (constant speed) too much... Hope this is useful

I would like to add the following: I can't find the thread where I got this from anymore, but it's important to wait untill the alignment is complete (4 minutes and FLASHING "nav ready" on CDU). If you press NAV (on cdu), the EGI switch, or the EAC switch before that the system will (eventually) end up in a degraded mode, which will make it less accurate. The only way to restore that is a complete realignment... Indeed, the SAS switches and the NAV switch (the one below the thrust levers) CAN be set before alignment without any problems.
  7. From real life experience I have been up to 43000ft during day light, but never saw any stars. I assume you'd have to be a lot higher than that to get to see any stars during daylight.
  8. With me it's only the ident signals that aren't working. The signals that are steering the instrument needles are working fine. I didn't check the issue on other modules though...
  9. I experienced the same problem since the update. There's no ident signal anymore (the nav aid identifier in morse code). I only get a white noise when I get out of range of the tuned navaid.

Hi Ocarius, There are basically 2 A-10 versions available: The A-10A is what you get with Flaming Cliffs 3, along with some other aircraft (F-15C, Su-27, Su-33, Mig-29A, Mig-29S, Su-25 and Su-25T). The A-10A is also available as a standalone version, but you get the very same aircraft. I don't know what is meant with the dlc version, I guess it is just another way to get the software... The A-10C is a standalone module and can be more classified as a so called study-sim. This means that it has a very steep learning curve. Every switch and button in the cockpit should be used in the correct way to get things done right, unlike the A-10A version. This can be very frustrating at times, but also very satisfying! It has a very good documentation and some tutorial missions to get you underway. Should you have more questions then there's always this great forum. There's a lot of knowledge here and everybody is very willing to help each other out. So, the A-10A version is a bit easier to start with, but since you already have some sim experience I would recommend the A-10C version.     ETL Vibration

    I'd like to add my own 2cts on the subject... In 1991 I was on internship on a naval helicopterbase operating with Westland UH-14D Lynx helicopters. I remember that a helicopter had had all of its main- and tailrotor blades replaced during a big overhaul. Because of this they had to do a frequency analysis with the machine. To do this some 3d accelerometers were attached, as well as camera's, all of which were connected to some hardware analyzer. Then they started the helicopter up, but couldn't get to normal rotor RPM before getting too much vibrations... The analyzer then gave advice on how to change some settings on the rotorblades (put some small balancing weight on this rotorblade, increase the basic pitch of that rotorblade, turn that bolt tighter on that rotorblade...) all for main and tail rotorblades. This was done 3 times before they could finally get to normal RPM and start flying the helicopter (at which point I was no longer allowed on board unfortunately...) Then they repeated the process in the air at different speeds and altitudes, untill they had the most optimum settings. Needless to say it took them all day to get there! A helicopter is a very complex machine with a LOT of rotating parts (main rotor, tail rotor, engines, various gearboxes, pumps, generators, etc.). All those parts are rotating in different directions, different frequencies and in different locations from the main center of gravity. Because of this there will always be complex vibration patterns. Helicopters are set up in such a way that you'll have the least vibrations in the speedrange closest to their operational needs. For some helicopters it will be in cruise flight, for others while hovering. I know this doesn't answer you question, but I hope it will shed some light on the subject at hand...
  12. Don't worry about viruses, the file is offered as BitTorrent from the official DCS website. ED will make sure theirs will not be infected! You need specialised software to handle BitTorrents. I use Vuze for this, but there are others too. I downloaded it this way and it's downloaded a lot faster too. Edit: However, it's always a good idea to have a downloaded file checked out by your virus scanner first!

  15. Oops, I made a typo there...sorry... It's 2°C every 1000'. Regarding the slope: There is no direct slope info, but on the aerodrome charts there is an elevation mentioned for each end of a runway, combined with the runway length you can figure out the slope yourself. For example for Tblisi Soganlug RWY 13-31: R13 elev=1504' R31 elev=1464' difference= 1504'-1464'=40' Rwy length=8120' For R13 it's a downslope of 100*40/8120=0.5% For R31 it's an upslope of 0.5%
