  1. I'm reading Vipers in The Storm by Keith Rosenkranz (great book BTW). He was a Viper driver at Al Minhad during Operation Desert Shield. According to him around the base they were flying around monstrous sand dunes sometimes as high as 800 feet.

In DCS in Persian Gulf map whole desert is pretty flat and boring... Could we have such features? It doesn't seem too hard to implement.

  2. The airframe shaking at high alpha isn’t enough warning?

Yes, because when you are in this situation, you have already lost your airspeed and the bandit can easily take advantage on that. I would like to see some additional feedback for 3, 4, 5, ... Gs.

The sound of the wind passing canopy increasing with airspeed would be also nice, as you also get this in real.

  3. Hello,

Since there is no fly-by-wire to save us from overstressing the aircraft from high G pulls, woudn't be nice if we had more G-feedback?

Now, I need to watch airspeed and G indicator all the time during the dogfight. It is pretty dificult since they are in 2 separate places.

In the real aircraft pilots are used to feel the Gs and release the stick if they are pulling too hard. I think it would be great if we had some option to see if we are pulling more Gs with some graphical/sound effects.

Without this it is very hard for me to keep the corner speed in turns...

    What do you think?

  4. Hi,

Some gauges are very hard to read in VR, and not because they are small. Even leaning forward doesn't help. It is because of low contrast between color of digits and their background. For example - two first digits of barometric altitude indicator, remaining fuel, Bingo Fuel.

The another issue comes with the counter that shows how many rounds are remaining for a gun. I did try several times, with different lightning, but I cannot read it in VR. The glass cover is just too weathered.

    Thanks for checking.

  5. Hello,

First of all - congratulations of your work. F14 looks truly like a product of love and I am already missing flying it while I am at work!

However, I feel that cockpit in VR is just too small. I have heard stories of real world F14 pilots and RIOs that said that there was pretty lots of space comparing to the other aircraft.

    Thanks for checking.

    UPDATE:

I have tried to lean forward and recenter and now it looks fine. The cockpit size is OK, but please fix the head position.

  6. Hi all,

I have one issue after recent update.

For some reason I cannot move my throttles above MIL power. Even though I am moving my physical throttles full forward, 'in game' throttles stop at MIL point.

    My HOTAS is calibrated correctly.

Is there any 'lock/unlock' switch for that now?

    Thanks

  7. Thank you for your comments.

I was suspecting this might be a 'special case', but I was able to repeat this take off for a second time, so it felt too easy.

Probably, the reason is that in the real life the exact same variable set (carrier speed, wind, turbulences, plane config) needed for such successful take off wouldn't repeat so easily, while in DCS it is as easy as to reload the whole scenario.

  8. Take A10C and you won't regret it. But be ready for a steep learning curve, if you haven't been using such complicated avionics before.

If you want something really fun and totally different, take Mig-21. It looks complicated, but in the end it is pretty simple to fly. Cockpit is extremely immersive, specially in VR. It doesn't have fancy targeting systems, but with some training, you are able to take out whole convoy with one, high speed pass. And it makes you scream like a little girl when you fly supersonic, just over tree tops and trying to dodge incoming tracers.

  9. Hello,

so, i am wondering if you guys have any advice on techniques for practicing?

Just get someone to sit next to you and act like Flight Instructor. All he/she needs to do is to yell at you 'Ball! Ball! Keep the ball centered!' whenever you are uncoordinated :megalol:

I cannot get rid of the memories of flight lessons, when I have just set up speed, altitude and heading and felt like a boss for a moment, just to have my self confidence completely ruined by my Flight Instructor :).

  10. Hi,

I have set up my own mission where I have to engage low flying MI8 (around 100 ft AGL). It is hard to get lock on, so I am firing MAGIC missiles from quite close distance and every each MAGIC misses.

I imagine that this is how it should be in reality, but is it somehow possible to have a kill in this situation? Maybe from different angle? Speed? Configuration?

    Thanks

  11. Same here. I tried to change settings to low, but it doesnt help.

Here is log from Windows event monitor (it is always the same):

  12. What would you recommend I do next to hone my skills with the aircraft? Are there some good user created training missions out there? Are there some I already have? Should I create my own? (I have FC3 as well by the way.)

Hello and welcome to our Community

I would advice you to get some payware module. You can wait some time for sales, there are few during the year.

Full payware module will give you much more "blast".

In which types of aircraft are you interested?

    Props - P51

    Helos - Huey

    Modern jets - A10C

    Good luck!

  13. The only videos I can find on the subject of rudder only goes as far as saying "It's to keep the slip ball centered when turning". Can't find any comprehensive source on why one should bother with the rudder.

This little ball can save your life. Really.

First of all - when the ball is NOT in the center you are in the uncoordinated turn, and therefore in slip or skid. This means that you are bleeding off more energy.

But the most important thing is when you stall in uncoordinated turn, you can end up in a spin. And when you don't have enough altitude, you will not recover. This is one of the most leading violent ends for many real life, GA pilots.

  14. I'm looking for a wingman to teach me how to fly. e.g. trim, propeller pitch, manifold pressure etc. I've seen people talking about them a lot but don't know what they are.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forums :pilotfly:.

I recommend you to start from the desk. Here is a great article about manifold pressure and propeller pitch:

    http://www.advancedpilot.com/downloads/prep.pdf

Unless you are somekind of engine geek, it will take you some time to understand how to handle this stuff.

    Good luck!

    Lukasz
