Hey Lensman, I open up Steam on my PC, put on my headset and then open Virtual Desktop on my Headset, (I have Virtual Desktop set to open with windows. you probably know these things, but I am just going through my process) if Virtual desktop menu screen disappears press the button with the 3 lines on it on the left-hand controller to bring it back into view, then I click start Steam VR, then the press the button on the left controller with the 3 lines on it and a window opens on my headset with the games showing, I then just point and click with the controller to whichever game I want to play.

Or same process, open Steam in windows, put on headset, open Virtual Desktop, if Virtual desktop menu screen stays on press the button with the 3 lines to make it disappear so you can just see your normal desktop, then I point to the steam icon on my taskbar and click the controller, it doesn't bring up steam just a pop-up menu, click on library with the controller, which brings up steam in your library mode, then click on AMS2 then play, then choose launch with Steam VR mode.

Hope you like the Pico as much as I do.

Cheers Bearskin ! I'll try your suggestions and report back.

Yes, I'm enjoying the Pico 4, it's a nice step up from the Quest 2, which is an awesome Headset anyway once you get it all tweaked 🙂

5 Days with my Pico 4 I have tested all my games apart from Assetto Corsa. I have a VDSL combo, with Virtual desktop set to 90 FPS, medium graphics using HEVC, SSW on, and Steam VR @ 100% I am getting 866 Mb/s which is running Elite dangerous at Epic VR settings @ 90 FPS in Virtual desktop, Il2 at Ultra settings @ 90 FPS in Virtual desktop, and DCS world with 1.0 PD High settings 2xMSAA and 8X AF @ 80 to 90 FPS in Virtual Desktop depending on the Map, (I cannot get the Apache to run well on any setting), all running smooth, no stutter, all clear and bright. ACC runs well but doesn't look the best with ghosting and it is too sharp, RF2, AMS2 and F122 are all 90 FPS no stutter and all clear and bright.

I tried the Pico Streaming software both wireless and USB, picture is too dark, latency too high so it needs a bit of work, I tried RF2 55FPS, and ACC was too dark and a worse picture, so I won't be using the Streaming software for a while, hopefully Pico will work on it.

I leave my USB cable in whilst I am playing so it gives the batteries a bit of a charge while I am playing.

These are just my experiences with the Pico 4 and the VR games I play, personally I am glad I bought the Pico as it runs the games just as good as my Rift but with 2160 x 2160 resolution and a huge, sweet spot. YMMV

    Edit

Just to confirm (as some people tend not to read posts before answering), I am using Virtual Desktop and Virtual Desktop only with the settings above. My USB cable is plugged in for battery charge only.

Just got the Pico 4 too. I have been using a Quest 2 for all of my PCVR games including DCS. I use Oculus Air Link exclusively. DCS looks very promising via virtual desktop, more testing to follow.

However, for the life of me, I can't get AMS2 to run via virtual desktop. I can set up a race, but as soon as I click to go to the cockpit the game freezes. This was the same experience with the Quest via Virtual desktop which is why I used Air Link. How are you launching AMS2.

Sorry to divert from DCS but you're the first person I have seen who has successfully launched AMS2 this way.

  3. I agree with Hoirtel's comments above. Oculus/Meta have worked some magic on the Airlink software over the past few months.

I'm getting very smooth gameplay with the Oculus PC app set to maximum resolution at 72Hz.

The only setting you need in the Debug tool is make sure sharpening is set on.

Any other tweaks are just fluff 🙂

    Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.5GHz. Asus-Z170-PRO MB - CORSAIR H105 HYDRO CPU COOLER
    Nvidia RTX 3080 ti - 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ HYPERX SAVAGE.

@edmuss Thanks for that insight as I'm having similar issues. Question: Where do I find the option to set the headset resolution to 100%? I've seen that suggested before I can never find that setting. Thanks!

You go to the Oculus PC app. Select devices. Assuming your Quest is connected to the PC there will be a ticked green circle. Click the arrow and scroll the resulting window down to 'graphics preferences'. Here you can set refresh rate and rendered resolution. To get 1:1 pixel (maximum quality) rendering on the Quest you need to move the slider far right. This will render the image at native resolution in the centre of the display panel.

  5. Fair comment Don 🙂

Well, wireless is more of a convenience and practicality thing for me. My 1:1 replica Spitfire cockpit is right close to my PC so wired VR was how I started. But I have an eclectic taste in VR gaming and I have also gotten into Motor Racing. My Racing Rig is way on the other side of my gaming room so wired, though not impossible, is just damned inconvenient. Once Airlink matured to the state where there is no perceivable difference in visual quality from Link cable it was the obvious choice for me.

There are the other joys of wireless of course, like playing Beat Sabre or Skyrim outside in the garden on barmy summer evenings 🙂

For anyone who is using Oc2...do you use the Oculus Tray Tool to enhance the super sampling?  And why or why not etc.  Cheers.

It's best to use one of the resolution settings in the Oculus PC app. They are effectively super sampling pre sets. The highest setting maps the Quest's native resolution 1:1 at the centre of the display.

Odd, back when I was testing my original Quest with the Link cable when it first came out I did not notice a battery drain.

Maybe it is different nowadays with Quest 2.

You just need a decent USB expansion card with a dedicated SATA power connection. Quest will stay at around 80% charge indefinitely.

  8. Quest 2 hands down. Twice the resolution of the Rift S, but needs a pretty good PC to run it at it's native resolution. I play DCS on my Quest 2 wirelessly using virtual desktop and a dedicated 5GHz router and the visuals are stunning. The Quest has lots of exciting development goodies in the pipeline too like 120hz framerate and custom portals that will allow you too see and access keyboards/controls while in VR.

Tried the Quest 2 again this morning and got disconnections... sorted it quickly... The usb connection to the headset is really weak and easily moves when looking around.   Need to us the velcro strap quite close it so that it has no movement at all.   Kinda annoying because it is more comfortable to fix the cable in the back of the head but for that you need a second velcro strap otherwise the usb is too loose.

You need a cable with a right angle plug (like the official Oculus one).

Whatever you do, DON'T buy from WIDMOvr!  Their lenses are appalling quality with cheap packaging.  Their customer service is just as appalling and I wouldn't ever go near them again!

On the other hand, every dealing I have had with VROpticians  has been excellent.  Superb product and packaging along with excellent customer service.

That's strange. I had exactly the opposite experience with WIDMOvr. Quality lenses that snap on securely. Beautifully finished and nicely packaged.
