  1. great giz! Good to hear you figured it out. Deadzone is actually a zone where you don't want to have to joystick register your movement. Usually you create a deadzone to let the game ignore small ´spikes´ in the joystick when you aren´t moving it. (basically making the joystick center unresponsive of movement) stevie
  2. TrackIR is what i use. With the v5 software stevie
  3. i have a Cougar. Only because of the weight i would get it. It's awesome. I have owned a x45 and did like it. X52 looks very futuristic. The thing with the saitek sticks is, that i never liked the spring setting. It was/is way to soft. To get a cougar up and running the way it should is a little more time consuming, but very satisfying. If you have seperate pedals, or planning to get them - go for the cougar. If you don't have pedals and you aren't getting them, go for the x52 (it has twist z-axis for rudder on the stick) stevie
  4. I indeed rammed the train. No damage at all (and no, i'm not in good mode :) ) @gizmo: I scaled my sensitivity of the axis WAY (both axis) down setting a curve, where the max output ended somewhere in the middle. Go to options -> controls -> axis and select the x or y axis and hit the 'tune' button. Move the slider so that you get a wave. Make it a very shallow curve and fly. Test it out, move the curve steeper as you go. I am on xfire (WH_stevie), so if you add me we can give it a try over teamspeak in a multiplayer session. That will surely clear things up a bit. stevie
  5. Make sure that this RAM is of the EXACT same type as your current, or else it's possible that i won't give the wanted results. I know where you're at. I also don't have the framerates that i would like. Sure, when i create a mission with NO other units in the framerate is absolutly top notch, but when i run the mission "Battle" or a decent mission online the stuttering comes back. I have a Creative Xtreme gamer soundcard, and will try the suggestion in a previous post though. stevie
  6. Hi Caserock, Welcome to DCS. I could only suggest hooking up with a squad. I'd be happy to saddle up some time, walking through some of the basic stuff to get you going. cheers and enjoy your stay
  7. I have created a profile for the cougar using foxy, and unmapped everything (except the axis) and so far each online flight was a success. stevie
  8. I was testing my new axis sensitivity settings, but thought i'd share it a bit. I am so happy that i'm able to get the ka50 to do what i want it to do :)
  9. I had exactly the same issue the other day. I was flying online using my cougar, and after about an hour orso all my inputs stopped working. As if the profile got unloaded. On top of that the "esc" wasn't working either and more keys stopped responding over the next minute. I have just flown again and everything seemed to be working just fine. So I'm wondering if your keyboard shortcuts still work when you're going online? cheers
  10. Leave out "eye" in that line ;)
  11. sorry to bump this one up again, but i ran into this problem aswell. Told me the DLL was missing. What i did to fix it was to run the installation executable in vista compatibility mode. That installed it without any issues. cheers
  12. Hi guys, thanks. I have to say that i do use a hotas (cougar) and pedals. The pedals are actually from a steeringwheel set but it works for now :) Stevie
  13. (This message is just for those that are fighting the controls.) After several hours I FINALLY managed to get the KA50 where i want it to go. I went, like most of the time, for a free flight to practise flying, hovering etc. And out of the blue it worked! It felt right, and suddenly everything seemed more easy to control. Keep the autopilot on and try to master trimming! Eventually you'll get it and you just know when that happends. Back to flying ! :joystick:
  14. I just watched over the training mission a few times. Noting down what was going on. After many unsuccefull attempts, glazing at the monitor wondering what i forgot to do, i managed to get it going and memorize it. Sure, checklists are nice to have but you must first know what for instance "uv-26" means and where it is located. stevie
  15. I sure hope not, and i don't expect it to be really. Why all the effort in developing DCS:BS and create a new engine and sell it as a new sim? Only time will tell.. stevie
  16. The best change is that the rudder is wrist - controlled on the x52. if you don't have pedals (like me) it's pretty hard to accurately use the rudders on the collective with the x45. Atleast, thats my experience. stevie
  17. Are you centering the stick quick enough? I believe Matt has a movie up explaining this issue. You push forward on the stick and release the trim, if you recenter the stickto slowly it will add the forward position to the trimmed location. However, because you are centering after that it will move back to the trimmed position. I flew alot of practise flights with the joystick indicator on (right ctrl + enter) to show your inputs. I flew from location to location, picking a spot where i wanted to be in hover looking at a certain point. Doing that over and over again really worked for me. stevie
  18. I have to say that after viewing the movie linked on page 34 (?) and the movie below i'm pretty sure my trimming is fair enough and that the bouncing just "is there". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEHJc1pTkHc stevie
  19. Ivan, thanks for this excellent write up! I'm sure this helps alot of people. (including me!) Rep inb. stevie
  20. Give wwiionline a try. You can fly, drive, walk etc all you want in a large envoirment. Works pretty good. Just, it isn't jet based. stevie
  21. My flying was all over the place at start. I just needed time, patience and practise. Thats it. I usually fly with bank, pitch and heading switched on when cruising. Once i hit combat or pre-combat stage i flip on the Flight directory switch. Don't forget that in FD mode after you have trimmed, "retrim" the heading after you have turned. I mean, trim it out so you can fly stick centered. Then after you have turned: center the controls and hit the trim button. THen you are trimmed on that heading again. A tip stated a few times can be to hold the trim button when moving the stick around but I must say that this way can be irritating aswell if you release the trim before having your controls centered, causing that you'll oversteer and have to retrim again to get it steady. IMHO you should just practise and keep practising. Keep the output of the stick on screen (shft enter i believe) and see what happends. Pay attention to it i really helps if you sit a few hours paying attention to flying. stevie
  22. Grodin, Do you have any other application open? I usually open my taskmanager (ctrl + shft + esc) so i have something to alt-tab "to". If there's nothing to switch you won't be able to use it. stevie
  23. Hi X32Wright, do you get any information from the eventviewer from vista? Does it mention anything about the lock up? stevie
  24. Cheers d0ppler, I stated the same in a previous post, but does the eventviewer of windows give you some information after the freeze? stevie
