  1. Yeah i don't understand the problem with taking 30 mins or so to set up the sensors/lighthouses. A little bit of work to get good room scale tracking seems like a good pay off to me. Yeah the controllers were a big selling pont for the index for me, it's certainly received some great reviews for em.
  2. The Index was definitely what I had my heart set on after all the reading/watching and general research i did about the current bunch of headsets, obviously teh resolution is a big plus but those controllers look incredible and while not a lot of games making much use of em right now, that'll change in the future. From the sounds of it light house 2.0 is flawless as far as tracking goes, the inside out of the S is very good apparently, especially with the new update but i don't thinks its flawless,at least not in regards to controller tracking. Again It's just that ridiculous wait/price that we have in Australia, I was checking out ebay and most sets are sitting around the $2200 mark, it's just too muc, which is super frustrating. So the S looks to be an excellent compromise for now, but I'll keeping a close eye on the index price/availability in Australia and getting ready to part with one of my lungs when the moment is right.
  3. Cheers Skootch, i definitely have done a whole tonne of reading about the differences between the headsets, i would definitely prefer the Index, as an overall package it seems more like what i want out of my next vr headset. But the long wait and the very high price makes it a bit of a problem. Being in Australia is strangely restrictive as far as getting things here, no idea why, it's not like it's a third world country. Also I wanted a flight sim specific opinion as there's not a whole bunch out there for that, some definitely but some more is better better especially if it's DCS specific. From everything I've read, I think the S is the way to go for now, with a plan to maybe upgrade to an index somewhere down the line, but I'll see how happy I am with the S. I think I'll be happy with the upgrade from everything I've read and watched about it. I definitely wish that this next gen of headsets was more of a jump but it is what it is I guess. We're still in the infancy of VR so there's gunna be compromises. To be honest I'm just glad they were living in the age of VR in flight sims. It's such a game changer for sim type experiences
  4. What about the narrower fov I've read about, is it noticeable for does it appear largely the same as CV1?
  5. Yeah the headband looks a bit odd but I've heard it's actually very comfortable when it's on. I'm sure i can live with it. Once I'm in the cockpit i tend to kinda forget about all that stuff anyway. I was a bit worried about the fps hit with the index too but from what I hear the Rift S is pretty much same performance and I'm sure they'll figure out ways to improve that further, both in Oculus and with DCS working on the VR performance a fair bit of late.
  6. Yeah the audio on the Index looks incredible, I have good headphones but if I can cut away one step from my setting up to fly process that would be a nice bonus. But if I still need em or some good quality ear buds that’s fine, why Oculus went with that horrid audio solution is beyond me. I was looking at the reverb as a sim only headset and keep the CV1 for my more normal VR games but yet again being in Australia it’s not available and it’d be getting up towards a thousand dollars, which is a bit much for a one purpose handset, and I’d probably need to upgrade my 1080 to something with a bit more grunt to handle the resolution, although I’m getting a 2080 super with my tax return so that’s not a huge problem. My IPD is 66 on the CV1 so I don’t think I’d have a problem with the lack of physical ipd adjustment on the S and the ease of set-up is nice although I don’t really mind a bit messing around to get things running properly initially. It sounds like the clarity increase on the S from the CV1 is more than most people were expecting, myself included, and that’s my main consideration if I’m being honest, I love VR but a perceivable increase in the clarity and look of the sim would be amazing after spending a few years in the relatively low res world of CV1. The S is looking better and better to be honest, and even if i upgrade to an Index in a year or two so I can enjoy those excellent looking controllers and another small bump in clarity that’s not a bad way to go.
  7. Ignore him, I suspect he's just bored and trolling, quite successfully unfortunately.
  8. Good afternoon gents and ladies, I’m having a bit of a dilemma at the moment that I was hoping to get a little advice/help with. I have an oculus cv1 which I really love but I think it’s time to upgrade. Originally I was deadest on getting an index as the specs are pretty impressive and one of the important factors is that I want to be able to read all the dials in the cockpit without having to either zoom and lean forward and with the resolution it has it looks like that would definitely be the case. Not to mention the overall increase in clarity, and also the knuckles looks incredible for all my other games. But being from Australia getting an Index is looking to be a real pain. Best case late September, worst case who bloody knows. And the price will no doubt be ridiculous. So I’ve been checking out the Oculus S as from what I’ve read it’s actually a pretty significant upgrade to the CV1 especially for flight sims, the price is a lot more in reasonable and of course I don’t have to wait to get one. I’ve read that all the dials in list cockpits are readable and that overall it’s quite a nice upgrade visually. Another factor is from what I’ve read the jump from the CV1 to the S is much bigger than what the jump from an S to an Index would be, so would waiting months to get my hands on an Index and paying a very high premium really be worth it? For me Flight sims are my main reason for having VR, so the improvements there are main consideration, that said I do have other VR games that I do play and love so I don’t want those to suffer from the upgrade if possible (inside out tracking apparently not being as good as separate sensors being the main problem) If anyone had an experience with both or even just either of them I would love to hear how the upgrade has gone, how’s the improvement in clarity? I know that the Index will be overall a better upgrade but is it THAT much better than an S to warrant the wait and high price? Either way it’s pretty fantastic problem to have and I’m pretty damn happy that 8 can finally feel like I’m flying these Aircraft from inside their cockpits. Much thanks in advance.
  9. You'll need to adjust your graphic settings friend, start with the VR preset in the graphics options then slowly bring each setting up in quality until you find that nice balance of performance and graphics fidelity. It takes a bit of time to do and you'll want to test the performance whenever you change something for a while to see how the performance is affected by whatever change you've made. Try and use the same mission for all the testing to be sure that it's the settings you're changing that effects the performance and not different missions as some missions have a lot more moving parts in them that will change your performance regardless of the graphics settings. Good luck!
  10. I too really like this single eye NVG bug/feature, as someone who wears em regularly I don't really struggle with just a single one at all and find it very usable, and of course, it is super handy for keeping an eye on your cockpit instruments. Would love this to be an option in the future.
  11. Yeah it overlays into vr and you can position it wherever you like, if I can get it to work it'll be fantastic for training. Just getting it working is proving to be a problem :/
  12. Good morning gents, Has anyone here gotten OVRdrop to work correctly with DCS? I got it yesterday but can't get it to work with DCS. I'm trying to do some training with some excellent Grim Reapers videos I've downloaded and wanna do it without having to take off my headset and this seemed like an excellent solution but can't for the life of me get it to overlay within the simulation. I've seen some people here talk about it and was wondering what their settings are, any help with this would be super appreciated.
  13. So when I set my IPD to a different setting all it seems to do is change the way the menu's look, I looked carefully at the surrounding would/cockpit etc but I really can't see any difference. Am I doing something wrong with my settings?
  14. i dream of 5 hours, mines been going for 12 and is only half way, it's gotten down to 25-35 KB/s at its lowest , although I'm in Australia so it's a horrible combination of absolutely terrible internet and slow servers, it's like watching the worlds slowest clock :( edit : they also really need to add the ability to pause the download, it's tying up my computer until it's done :/
  15. Yep I gotta back Los here, IL-2 BOS is excellent in VR, I play both off and online and it's an amazing experience every time, well worth getting if you enjoy WW2 aircraft and old school dogfighting. I've been meaning to try Aces high in VR, might have to re-install it and give it a whack.
  16. I know some people here have suggested 250 and I understand the reason why but as an Australian I get pings a bit higher than that quiet regularly, it'll mean I'll be kicked quite often which makes it very hard for me and other Australians to enjoy ourselves. If there was more Aussie servers I would happily play on them but there isn't. If you could set it to 300 that would help us out a hell of a lot :pilotfly: Cheers guys!
  17. yeah so what's the backing level you need to get the map today, I'm in for $87 silver level, is that enough?
  18. Yep me too, lucky I saw this before trying to buy the map again, best 87 bucks I've spent in ages.
  19. The FW-190D cause you allied crackers need to be put in your place ;)
  20. Yeah and look at the VR of the same period compared to what we have now. I think it's safe to say we've come a long way and can make this work ;)
  21. I too would very happily pay for this, ED seem to be quite uninterested in this for some unexplained reason, the level of immersion this would add to this great sim would be incredible. Didn't ED add a hand model for use with the vive/touch controllers at some point? maybe that's a stepping stone of something that they're working on in the background.
  22. Thank you so much for those Macka! They're pretty much exactly what i was looking for, now i can enjoy some of those excellent dlc campaigns in vr. Cheers mate!
  23. Thanks for the reply mate, I try not to use the zoom too much, it makes me queasy and I find it quite disorienting, that said if there's no other option I'll have to get used to it but i thought that maybe some sort of modified labels may be a better way to go. Maybe make them black or dark grey and keep them as dots or something subtle like that.
  24. G'day gents, I've recently jumped into flying DCS with a cv1 and like most here I'm finding it super hard to go back to flying in 2d again, it's really just no comparison, the feeling of being in those cockpits is unmatched by a 2d screen at any resolution. Of course now I'm running onto the problem of target spotting, I'm running the pixel density at 1.6 and the cockpit looks great and there's no real problem reading gauges but I'm having trouble spotting targets until I'm right on top of em. I find the normal labels to be too obvious so I'm wondering if anyone here has developed their own custom labels for VR? I'd love to get my hands on them so i can jump into some of the campaigns and have a ball off line. Alternatively if anyone could direct me to a guide where i can develop my own that would also be great. I'm still playing online with the screen at the moment as it's a huge disadvantage to do it in vr, well except for the helicopters, i can still be quit effective in those. Is anyone else having this problem and have any solution that maybe I haven't thought of, any suggestions would be super appropriated. Thanks!
  25. I too am having this problem, regardless of my tooltips options in my menu options they're popping in multi player. super frustrating. If anyone else here knows of a workaround we'd be super appreciative. :)
