  1. So have I. This is a first for me. Maybe just a fluke on the payment processors end. Oh well.
  2. Exactly! Sheesh! That's why I use PayPal. I just have to login and pay! I'm tellin' ya. It's enough to make ya not wanna buy it! :smilewink: (Just kidding). Seriously though, wonder why the PayPal feature isn't working. But, a quick google search revealed a plethora of topics related to "SagePay", the provider DCS uses, and it not working with PayPal (or not working at all).
  3. Thanks for the thoughts guys! I guess I will pull the trigger! I would have already. But evident I can't pay with PayPal, it says "PayPal returned an error" on the payment website. And my wallet is ALL THE WAY in the other room! Sheesh! Hehehe.
  4. That's my dream flight sim, guys running up with stretchers. I mean EVERY sim/game is about blowing stuff up. But for once it would be a blast to be the MEDEVAC/CASEVAC guy, so it's exciting to know those missions exist. Just imagine, Arma with Americas Army style wounds (aka, if you get hurt, you're hurt. If you bleed, someone needs to stop it. If you die, you're dead). So we'd need to haul guys off the battlefield before they could return to combat. Dead is dead, critically wounded is unplayable until you get to a hospital (and then someone has to get you back to combat!) etc. Would provide a lot more strategy than just having the most guys with a high K/D ratio.
  5. Hey all! I'm thinking about adding the Huey to my collection. But at $50, I have a few questions. 1) How is the variety of the missions? I'm thinking about getting into a helicopter (I've only done fixed wing, but rotorcraft on FSX). But I've done enough finding, targeting, and blowing up stuff with the A-10. Are there lots of other missions? 2) CASEVAC/MEDEVAC, is there a good amount of that? Does that even exist? Honestly, my ideal Huey mission lineup would include deploying soldiers into a hot LZ and evacuating wounded from combat to hospitals. That's what the Huey did well in Vietnam and I think it would be a lot more fun than just blowing up tanks. Wouldn't it be something if we had 100's of FPS players on the ground operating the tanks and engaging in small arms combat on the ground, hauled back to hospitals to be respawned and deployed by helicopter. And supported by fixed wing aircraft. I actually enjoy FPS's, but simplified arcade flight models make it annoying.
  6. Hmm... not the P-51 I'm sure. It was a tail dragger. It's tail ALWAYS sagged to the ground when it landed. That's how it worked! Though the P-51, like any tail dragger, has huge issues landing if it's nose heavy. You can't use any brakes, or the nose will be in the ground (until it's slow enough for the tail to stall and no longer generate lift, once the nose is pitched upward you can finally slow down!) Center of gravity is very important on an airplane. Ever been asked to switch seats on a partially filled airplane? It's gotta be in the right spot for both takeoff and landing. So is weight of course. Trim only works when the airplane is moving at a pretty decent speed! In fact, on 9/11 a tremendous amount of jet fuel was dumped into the atmosphere. Millions of gallons by some estimates. That's because all air traffic was grounded, and some international and cross country flights had just taken off. Civilian airliners sometimes take off ABOVE their maximum landing weight (especially the big jets). So they can takeoff, but can't land until they burn off a ton of fuel. Center of gravity is off, and the weight is more than the gear can handle! (which is why they have dump valves). If there is no dump valve, the other solution is to "fly dirty", which is to fly gear down, flaps down, speedbrakes up and throttles as high as you can get them without overspeeding the aircraft until you've burned up the fuel. Although in an absolute emergency, (like a birdstrike taking out your engines after takeoff, too low to dump fuel and not enough time anyway) they CAN land overweight. But they cannot takeoff again until a series of inspections is completed!
  7. Not bad! A real A-10 pilot would've probably ejected once he got it as close to home as possible anyway! I rarely eject. Ejecting doesn't do anything for you but maybe save a little pride, sometimes it's fun to see if you can get it on the ground! :P That has happened to me too, actually. Almost seems like severe damage models are ok (maybe a blown tire but the WHEELS are still there), but any light damage the wheels DISAPPEAR. Not just tires popped (I've had that happen), but all three wheels, always all three wheels, are completely gone.
  8. Weird. I still get the issue. Any damage whatsoever to the underside of the aircraft, whether a SAM hit or just a few small holes from small arms fire or something; and I have no wheels. ANY damage, and I have no wheels. Just three struts.
  9. What about a small bluetooth keyboard? I have one that I rest on my lap when playing DCS (despite having a bigger keyboard and playing at a desk, it's just an easier reach). 90% of my controls are mapped to my x52 pro but for radios and views and things, I have the keyboard right there. Small and light. (I have an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard)
  10. I'm sure some do it to just be annoying. Although it wouldn't hurt for folks who are after the 'realism' to be courteous enough to consider landing along one side of the runway if possible and rolling as far down the runway as they can (assuming serious gear failure or two engine failure, only scenarios I can think of where taxi'ing isn't an option). Although, in the REAL world, airplanes are expendable, pilots are not. At least in the USAF, pilots won't attempt risky landings. They'll limp it close to home and eject. Heck, fighter pilots have ejected here in the US on training missions because of bird strikes flaming out an engine. They COULD glide it in to land, or it could stall at the last second and crash short of the runway. Rather than risk it, they point it in a safe direction and hop out! So maybe true 'realism' is if your aircraft cannot safely land and taxi, to just get close to base and bail out, with the aircraft pointed away from any friendlies. Although the way some of these folks fly they have perfectly good airplanes until AFTER they touch down :P Then after screaming in at 210 knots and a 1500fpm decent they say the landing gear is too weak!
  11. Heck I've seen that done with general aviation aircraft. At a smaller regional airport near me a twin engine aircraft had a landing gear failure and it screeched to a stop. Nobody was hurt but the aircraft of course could not taxi. The aircraft was literally drug by cable off of the runway into the grass so traffic could continue until the appropriate equipment (crane and flatbed truck) could come in to move the plane to wherever it would need to go! At Lambert in St.Louis a few years ago the airport was choked full of airplanes with nowhere to go in a grid-lock on the taxiway with an emergency coming in to land. Aircraft were told to just roll off onto the grass to get away from the runway! They can get creative if they need to be! Maybe a solution would be to use the rudders (at enough speed to allow them to still have effect, but slow enough not to cause damage), land near one side of the runway instead of the middle, and 'veer off' at the last moment to leave as much runway room as possible (potentially coming to rest in the grass or on a taxiway). Allowing the repair to be made without clogging the runway?
  12. I went ahead and got this one configured, as it seems to make sense to me. I made a couple small changes (moving the autopilot switch to the throttle for example). Now to continue learning how to operate this thing I'll be golden!
  13. Pitch trim is a constant battle in any aircraft. Most airliners and general aviation aircraft have a big huge 'wheel' for pitch trim. Changes in weight (moving passengers, burning fuel), changes in power or speed or altitude will necessitate a pitch change. So you grab the wheel and adjust until the nose is level! (The autopilot works by adjusting trims). In fact, in most smaller general aviation aircraft simply sliding back in your seat will raise the nose up!
  14. Sounds great! Any chance you'd want to upload your x-52 .pr0 file and your LUA file from the DCS folder? If not that's cool too it would just save me some effort, and ensure that I don't screw something up! That's what I'm looking for, something closer to the real HOTAS function. The profiles I keep finding are still requiring the keyboard for HOTAS functionality but have really odd functionality on the X-52 pro (like engine start or canopy open/close). I do with the X-52 pro had a few more buttons and switches and hats. There's a lot of real estate for that! But I suppose outside of DCS there's not much use. There is VERY little use for it in FSX. I ended up mapping everything down to the autopilot controls (certain sliders control altitude, heading, etc.) on the stick/throttle.
  15. Hey all! I'm new to the forum, my name is John, so Hello! I've been into flight simulators for about 18 years or so. Been flying in MSFS from version 95 all the way up to X! Decided to look for something a little more challenging, and I think DCS is it! I'm LOVING all of the aircraft systems involved. I'm addicted! So I have TrackIR 5 and a Saitek X-52 Pro. I'm finding both are immensely useful for DCS! Here's the thing, I've tried a couple of X-52 Pro profiles and I realized something; I know too little about this game to even remotely decide what's best. So here's my question, can anyone point me in the direction of an X-52 Pro profile that will best work with the Saitek X-52 Pro for a complete newbie to the game? Ideally I'd like to really have the 'HOTAS' stuff down. In other words, I'd like the stick and throttle to be more configured for HOTAS functions. I really don't need things like engine start or canopy controls on the throttle and stick like some profiles! I'm not sure whether I prefer using the mode switch (never needed it before) or the 'shift' key (using the pinky key) so either would be fine. Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
