  1. Hello I've been waiting years for a VR headset like the Pimax Crystal to return to DCS. A long time ago I invested in the DCS WW2 Kickstarter at $250, and wondering if I should download DCS thru Steam or directly from DCS to enable the WW2 aircraft, and terrain etc, . I don't remember how I first downloaded the sim. Thanks
  2. PIMAX is working on a 120hz option for the 8kx. So far they have 118hz working in inhouse tests.
  3. I didn't mean to suggest that the IPD had anything to do with the small scaling of the XTAL headset. I just require a wide IPD setting that I know the Pimax headset has. MRTV mentioned to XTAL that the cockpit appeared to be too small, so I would think that the XTAL developers can fix the issue, and/or have setting options to correct the issue that some users might have.
  4. YouTube MRTV tried the XTAL and Pimax 8kx at CES and found that the XTAL had fantastic picture quality, but the cockpit scaling was too small. They found the scaling much better in the Pimax headset. I'm primarily waiting for the 8Kx with its wide IPD adjustment.
  5. I'm waiting for the new Pimax 8kx, which is far superior to the old 5K+, and better than all currently available VR headsets, according to CES reviewers, BUT I'll be waiting for it to appear on sale at Amazon for easy return if necessary.
  6. I definitely wouldn't buy any of the current Pimax offerings, BUT the new Pimax headsets coming out this year appear to better than current VR headsets. I was an early adopter of VR, but I won't be buying any further VR headsets until they have a wide FOV and atleast the overall clarity of a 1080p monitor. Although I may buy the 8kx if it sells on Amazon so I could easily send it back if necessary. .
  7. Personally I have no problem seeing info about the new Pimax headsets from all sources including Sweviver. Just because he's now working for Pimax doesn't mean everything he says is bullcrap. The 8Kx could be a very good VR solution for flight sims, but I probably won't buy it until its offered on Amazon where I can easily return it.
  8. I noticed that VR sites VRfocus, UploadVR, and Road to VR are quick to note the poor support, and delays of the Pimax headsets. These faults should be reported, but it is curious that these sites haven't bothered to review the new headsets, that users are raving about from CES in the west, too the Pimax demo days along the eastern US seaboard, etc.
  9. I assumed from the Pimax specs that the IPD mechanically adjusted up to 75. After watching a few youtube reviews I found that the physical IPD adjustment of the headset is 72, and the software can adjust it up to 75. This is hugely disappointing to me as my IPD is 73, and I'm not so sure that a software adjustment is effective enough. Not having a proper IPD setting can induce motion type sickness.
  10. DCS was one of the prime sims constantly demoed on the Pimax 8Kx at CES etc. I'm sure Pimax would have steered clear of DCS if they couldn't run it smoothly.
  11. There is no doubt that earlier editions of Pimax headsets had issues, but all resent reviews rave about the new headsets. It remains to be seen if Pimax improves customer support.
  12. One of the main reasons I'm waiting for the PIMAX 8kx is its much wider physical IPD adjustment than all other headsets.
  13. Is the inside/out Pimax 6DOF tracking good enough for flight sims, or are outside tracking modules necessary.
  14. Apparently Pimax won the award for best VR headset at CES. The only headset that appears to have better visuals is the XTAL headset, probably because of its superior lenses. Although the XTAL may have scale issues at this time, and you would pay thousands more for it. Pimax appears to be the best overall headset coming to the market in the near future..
  15. I'm waiting for the high res, high FOV, wider IPD adjustment, of the Pimax 8Kx.
  16. The RiftS is probably the best idea for headset sales. A Rift2 might require a major PC upgrade, that would greatly curtail sales. The Rift2 should come out, when PC performance improves, and headsets are optimized to require less PC performance.
  17. I agree dburne. It appears Oculus is reluctant to release a new headset with a number of higher specs that would require another big jump in computer specs. Hence the Rift S instead of a Rift 2. This doesn't mean that Oculus has stopped research and development of higher spec headsets.
  18. Oculus still has the largest VR hardware, and software development teams, with a number of new VR hardware features in development for the Rift2. Nobody knows for sure how many of these hardware features will be incorporated in the Rift2. Anything can happen, but betting against FB and its huge VR team, isn't a good bet.
  19. I think its stupid to buy a second generation device, when higher resolution third generation hardware will follow soon after the second generation devises. :smilewink: I'm interested to see the specs of the second generation Rift etc which should be out around the same time frame as the PIMAX, and other's hardware. I doubt very much the huge Oculus VR team has been sitting on their hands over the last year or so. The first generation Rift was marginally better and cheaper than the Vive, especially for flight sims, but I will buy whatever second generation VR hardware that best suits the software I plan to run.
  20. The difference is in the details. Its the small details that make the difference in two close products like the Vive and Rift. I chose the Rift for Flight Sims because the clarity, comfort, price, etc were better. Most users and reviewers found that they preferred the Rift for flight sims, and racers, and the Vive for other types of games, especially before the Rift had controllers.
  21. Actually that's not my experience or most others experience comparing the Vive and Rift for clarity in flight sims. Both the Rift and Vive have the same resolution displays, BUT the Rift displays are smaller which pacts the same amount of pixels closer together. The same as a smaller television having a sharper picture than the larger television, when they both have the same resolution. Not to mention the smoother Rift Fresnel lenses. That said I'm looking forward to better headsets from Vive, Oculus, and others.
  22. The Oculus had smaller displays than the Vive, at the same resolution, which allowed the Vive to have a slightly larger FOV at the expense of clarity, because the space between pixels was larger the Rift. At this time, Clarity is more important than FOV with these relatively low resolution headsets. Which made the Rift a better option for flight sims. People who recently tested the Oculus Santa Cruz Prototype 2 could be using a 2,560 × 1,440 Oled display with new Fresnel lenses. This new high end standalone headset with internal cpu, and 6DOF tracking could be released next year. Hopefully we will see a number of new highend VR devices next year from several companies.
  23. VR definitely isn't good enough yet. BUT I highly recommend buying and not buying VR yet, as its very likely to spoil your monitor/TrackIR experience. You may be stuck in no mans land, where neither experience is good enough. That said, most VR users find the experience immersive enough to tough it thru its down sides. FOV, Resolution, and Frame Rates are still issues. Not seeing your controls is a short lived issue for most users, as people quickly get passed it. Next generation VR should improve many of VR's current issues.
  24. Its obvious to most people that as good as the immersion is with VR flight sims the displays, and FOV still need a lot of work. I have no doubt that these issues will be addressed at some point, maybe even with the next generation headsets, but I'm not holding my breath. The consensus so far is that the Rift has been the best option for flight sims. I have no idea if that trend will continue, but I certainly wouldn't bet against it, as Oculus still has the largest development team working on VR hardware today. People have predicted the demise of Oculus since the Facebook acquisition, but so far the exact opposite occurred. That said, I don't really care who makes the best headset, as I will buy the one that suits my needs. Its just awesome that so many companies have entered the VR market. :)
  25. I find it highly unlikely that the hundreds of first class VR innovators that Oculus hired over the last few years will no longer be innovating. Not sure how Oculus can make a profit, by not innovating.
