  1. Thank you very much. That very much sets my mind at ease. Now off to the shop. :)
  2. I've been a fan of Flaming Cliffs and would really love to get back into it with A-10C and Black Shark, but... What if (and I do hope this will never be the case) Eagle Dynamics ceases to exist for any reason at some point? Will I still be able to play or reinstall the game? Take this example: My first flight sim was TFX: EF2000 (later with the TACTCOM addition) by DID from 1995. DID was disbanded long ago but until this day I can reinstall and play my original copy of it, as long as I can find a compatible computer with no problem. And I do, because it brings back many memories. With online activation, I could probably not do that: There would be no activation server for the game or copy protection system to contact! Will this be the case for A-10C's and Black Shark's copy protection systems? What could I do if I wanted to get out my original copies in 10 or 15 years for nostalgia? Regards
  3. Ok first off, I didn't even read all the replies yet but... Wow, sorry, I didn't know this would cause confusion. It's obviously from Japanese animation (in this case a really cheap one too), so yes, it's fake. It's not really the same as a cartoon, this one has people dying etc. Still, I was watching and somehow trying to follow the storyline when I saw these jets. I took a look at the payload and thought to myself "wow, nice". But when I saw these 'missiles' being fired I thought that something didn't look right. I replayed it and had to laugh a lot because it looked to me at that time that the guys who made it didn't know much about what they were drawing. I guess what made it hilarious was the fact that those jets are meant to be F-15s instead of just some futuristic jets and the weapons looked relatively realistic too (compared to the cheap quality of the whole animation). And then suddenly Paveways started flying all over the place, lol. What had me stumped about MBot's link was the general fact that GBUs were actually equipped with rocket motors, even though they were clearly not the same type as the drawn ones in the pics. Should have made the humorous intent of the OP more obvious. It seems to be the first episode of a very cheap anime. It's completely in Japanese, so I don't even know what it's called. And it's not really about aviation either, rather it's a blatant rip-off of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
  4. I stumbled accross a bit of footage of what seems to be an an amazing new upgrade to the Paveway series of guided bombs. Done by the Japanese no less. But see for yourself. I laughed a lot! SPOILER: This is actually from a cheap Japanese animation show. It's not real, I just had to laugh when I saw it and wanted to share it because it looked to me that the guys who drew this didn't know much about airforce technology.
  5. My humble understanding of the exploit/cheat issue is this: The ECM "blinking" is an exploit because it was not intended to be used in this way to gain an advantage over other players that only use ECM like it is described in the manual. (look up the dictionary definition for "exploit"). Using PrintScreen to evade missiles (does that even work?) is a plain cheat, no questions asked. Again, these are only my humble opinions: People who cheats should be plainly disallowed to play the game alltogether. Yes, this is drastic, but necessary. Lots of people can change their IPs by whatever means and as such be able to harrass legitimate players all the time. Exploits (including the ECM isue imho)... well, that's a really hard question. I think it should be stated in each server's rules. After all, some servers allow game features that grant even more advantages than these exploits (full map or labels for example). So I think there should be specific rules to this and people should honor those rules.
  6. Thanks for the video! Wow... My default video player is the latest VLC player. Even with my dated machine, it plays the video very smoothly, I daresay with at least 25 fps. I tried it with the Windows Media Player as well and I got what I estimate to be 8-10 fps (and that's generous). Other than that: I officially hate anyone that can play LockOn with this kind of quality. I can only dream of that. ;)
  7. You really should use the SST software for as much as possible and only configure the axes and rotators in the game itself.
  8. LOL! Ok sorry, I just thought that maybe there was a specific story to this or something. Donmai!
  9. I have the same issue and upon searching through the Saitek forum I found some posts with similar problems. Bottom line was always that some sets have this issue and the only solution seems to be to send it in for a replacement. You might want to start a thread there or post in one that already exists but I guess they will just tell you to send it in as well. The X-52 is really good, apart from the "precision" slider (lol) and the mouse wheel on the front imho. Those things are giving me trouble.
  10. Frankly, I've heard the same kind of heroic music as in the first vid on American news broadcasts about the wars.
  11. Apart from the ECM macros (I take it you're referring to the "blinking" about which there is a thread at the moment), I haven't heard of any of these. Still, I usually manage to make kills just fine. Sure, people will always cheat but it's by far not as bad as you make it seem to be. Well, as I said, there is a thread about the ECM blinking issue. We have been told that it is on the list of things to be fixed. I have encountered this as well, but for me it's really not often. And if some guy keeps doing it, I can always join another server.
  12. I don't mind that at all. I tried to deal with the sonar physics in Sub Command and I'm willing to bet that those are a lot more elaborate than radar physics in LockOn. I just love this kind of stuff. The more "physical", the better. Thanks in advance.
  13. Yes I think I know what you're talking about! Makes a lot of sense. That stuff fascinates me beyond belief. Do you have any links for me about the technology, please? Sorry for derailing the thread like this.
  14. That's very good! I'm really hoping they will adjust this in some way. I lol'd. Let's hope this is not the case. ;) Wow, that's extreme, I didn't know that. Thinking about it, back in EF2000 the jammer was so effective that it was sure to make radar missiles miss almost 100%, at least in earlier versions of the game. I'm getting all off topic now however.
  15. It's very good, no doubt. What I meant was a few minor details. Camera pans, the mouse cursor in one google earth scene and such. Still, I really enjoyed it and I will keep it. ;) Whoa, shame on me for not noticing.
  16. Yes, I've been mentally noting all the tips in this thread for defeating this tactic, so thanks for that. Of course I realize that as long as it's possible to do it, people will do it. I just need to adapt. I guess the bottom line of what I was trying to say is: I've seen it, I don't like it and I'd like to see it fixed. ;)
  17. Heh, sure, I get your point! I guess my problem is that I have been a BVR fan since EF2000 and trying to get in close doesn't feel right for me unless I'm out of BVR weapons. The fact that I suck at dogfights doesn't help either, lol. This blinking makes BVR next to impossible however, more so when both parties use it. I feel that this "blinking" should not be possible. I admit, I have next to no knowledge about real radar or ECM systems, but it just doesn't feel like it's supposed to be that way to me. And it has the potential to ruin a part of the game, at least for me.
  18. I'm sorry, that was not my intention. In essence, yes. Because I like to think that those people are in fact not trying to annoy me but only trying to win. It's just a difference in principle: They will use every last measure in order to win. I will try to avoid using measures that tend to overly frustrate others because after all, this is a game and everyone (not only me) is trying to have fun. I don't quite agree with this. The things you describe have a lot to do with knowledge, skill and practice. This is (imho) what this game is about. "Blinking" ECM does not require any skill and it's questionable whether being able to do so was intended by the developers (sorry, I seriously do not want to enter the exploit vs. not-exploit flamewar). And it tends to prevent me from employing or practicing the techniques that you mentioned. Well, that's easy for you to say. ;) See:
  19. Well in fact it's true that if you go online for the first couple of times, you're very likely to get your behind handed to you. I first had to learn to be careful and avoid certain engagements before I was able to safely land again, instead of being blown to pieces. Making these experiences is part of the fun however and nothing beats realizing that you've gotten better. 100% signed. This is what I was really impressed about the LockOn community. I will never forget the time I flew a Su-27 on some server against members of some squad in F-15s. I was still very inexperienced and this one guy kept killing me with Slammers. After the fourth kill, he jokingly commented that I seriously needed to learn how to evade AMRAAMS. I told him I had watched Ironhand's tutorials but I just couldn't get it to work right. He immediately offered to teach me in a private game (!) with teamspeak. I had to politely decline at that time because I had to stop playing soon. I seriously hope he wasn't offended. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way. I have been playing on servers with labels for example, and it simply ruins the experience. You have no chance of trying to be stealthy by using EOS, etc. Sure, it might be easier, but getting better at ACE settings is not that hard either, but much more rewarding!
  20. I was not trying to flame or whine, Sir. I was merely trying to contribute my opinion on a public forum. Notice that I haven't said a single word about the exploit/not exploit issue you guys are arguing about. I was expecting this response. No, I will not use this tactic. While I agree that we're at war on the servers and every measure should be taken in order to win, I find myself extremely frustrated because of people doing this. And since I don't want to unnecessarily frustrate other people, I will refrain from using this. I do realize that I'm a fool because of this, too.
  21. Would you mind giving an example? I'm curious like that. ;) Yes, one just has to be careful not to get frustrated though. Always remember it's just a game and everyone is trying to have fun and not trying to mock others etc. Oh and that's not Black Shark you're talking about, I guess, lol. As long as it's not "zomg, how do I start my engines?!?", anytime!
