  1. I have always had a soft spot for the WW1 era, If made by third parties, then that gives us more choice and options. As a consequence, this would increase the player base.
  2. Hi Everyone, Not sure if this is just limited to Amazon UK so may be worth checking in your region, but for those in the UK, Tail Gunner Kindle Edition by R. C. Rivaz is currently free. I have not read this myself, so cannot attest to the quality, but will give it a go in the next few days. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MAU8E7B/?tag=ho01f-21 Tail Gunner Synopsis: First published in 1943, this is the gripping story of one man's involvement in the RAF Bomber Command's fledgling offensive between August 1940 and December 1941. Dick Rivaz was tail gunner to Leonard Cheshire, one of the most famous RAF pilots of the Second World War, flying in Whitleys with No. 102 Squadron and latterly in Halifaxes with No. 35 Squadron. Tail Gunner is unique among wartime memoirs, as it was written within months of the events Rivaz describes, and with all the immediacy of one who was in the very thick of the action. He gives graphic descriptions of his experiences on night bombing attacks against heavily defended enemy targets likes Duisberg, Dusseldorf and Essen, and relates a dramatic shoot-out with German fighters over La Rochelle in broad daylight during July 1941. He survived these events to write this book, but was sadly killed in October 1943, aged just thirty-seven.
  3. Ahh the Oculus, I am envious now :) ED will have to focus on VR support more and more in the coming years as it becomes increasingly popular, so your suggestion will become even more pertinent then. I like the idea of more options wherever we can have them :)
  4. Hi Goblin, Totally understand where you are coming from. I used to have a pc that groaned everytime I put mirrors on. I am lucky enough to have been able to upgrade so it is not an issue for me anymore. What ED could do is put a tick option in the special options tab for a reduced mirror resolution but I cannot see it being done right now as there are so many other priorities and I am unsure how much effort it would take. But this is, as you say, a wishlist. I do wonder how many other people stay in silence and just deal with the issue and would actually love this to be implemented. I can say that previously I was one of those people.
  5. Welcome Andy, Have fun and know that there will always be someone to help you out in the community - the depth of knowledge here is staggering :) Which module(s) are you going to be looking at first?
  6. Hi Bluelight, I cannot answer you directly as I did not take notice of that sale and the actual price. Whilst it is always a bit annoying to miss a sale, there are regular sales going on; there is one of some type or another every weekend at the moment (keep an eye on this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=151478&page=4 ) We may not see that particular sale again anytime soon but there may be something else on offer that takes your fancy in the meantime.
  7. Hi Bluelight, "Can you buy steam modules and use them on the standalone version of DCS world using the cd-key? If so, does it only work from steam to standalone and not the other way around? (Meaning you can't use standalone codes to unlock steam modules?)" Yes - you are correct here. Check the second link on this forum post (lots of other great info in that post) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=135765 Happy flying :)
  8. Thanks for that Phantom, Reading this thread really has brought back some memories. I still have the box somewhere, believe it or not.
  9. My word@Coops - I played ACE to death when it came out. That brings back memories. As to the original post, my first flight sim experience was at school on a BBC Micro in the eighties. We were allowed to have a go until we crashed it. The kid before me knew what he was doing when he handed the keyboard over to me as I had about 5 seconds to pull the plane out of a nose dive. I did not succeed! I did play AH-64 on the Commodore 64 to death - that was probably my first proper flight sim along with ACE.
  10. For me it would be the Harrier Jump Jet Two seater variety. I see there is one for sale here: http://www.everettaero.com/harriert4.html Anyone got any spare change?
  11. Thank you Starway, This is indeed fantastic. I am coming back to DCS now I have a decent machine and the timing could not have been better. Happy to see you are rewarded for your efforts :)
  12. Interesting article about this game coming next year and how they work with the mod community http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/06/17/e3-2010-we-get-more-info-from-tripwire-about-red-orchestra-her/
  13. Hi Wolf, I believe you need to use the route key Default R Have a look at the first vid in this thread from Waldo http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43227
  14. Exactly d.b. You beat me to it. Incidentally, the video that helped me with route mode was the first one of these http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43227 Thanks to Waldo II for that
  15. I can certainly recommend that link "How to fly and blow stuff up" - helped me to get going with the basiscs and start enjoying the sim. The other thing that helped me a lot was using route mode (default key R) to follow waypoints which were already set up.. Now all I need is a joystick as it can be tricky flying with just the keyboard
  16. Not yet released but hopefully very soon.
  17. Hi Timm, If you have a Sapphire 4870 512mb card please see my post in the problems and bugs section. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43478 If not I wish you all the best in finding an answer
  18. Hi everyone, I was having problems running BS for a while and finally found a fix so wanted to let everyone else know. Apologies if this has been posted before but a search did not throw this up. Symptoms: I would happily be running BS but after an hour or so my PC would freeze and I would get a screen full of squares and have to manually reboot. Sometimes it would be quicker. I initially thought heat but that was not the answer. Resolution: I had an ATI Sapphire 4870 512mg card. It needed its bios updating. Take a look at the following thread. http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=100973&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear I would strongly recommend anyone updating their graphics card bios to do it through DOS outside of windows as you may end up turning your graphics card into a brick. Hope this helps Happy flying :pilotfly:
  19. Thanks for your answer zokier I looked at some other games that use steam this morning and from what I read I have to concur with your response.
  20. Hi everyone, First let me say what a great community this is from all the posts I have read and that I am really looking forward to getting Black Shark I have one question about purchasing the English version. I realise it has certain copy protection and please don't hijack this thread - that discussion has been done to death. I have had very positive experiences of Steam and from what I have read negotiations are ongoing with regards to selling BS through Steam. (correct me if I am wrong) My question is; will a potential copy of BS bought through Steam have the same copy protection as one bought through the official DCS website or will it rely on a Steam supplied anti pirate system? Thanks, in advance, for any replys :)
  21. Hi ggg, I had problems last night with the latest version of the software myself using Track IR 4. Not in the same way as you, but Track IR was working fine with its software - as soon as I fired up Lock On 1.12 , there was no response from it. I reverted to an older version of the software after removing the software and deleting the input and config files and hey presto, it worked.
  22. Hi Hornet, I enjoyed that, thanks. Good music choice - have to agree that some engine noise etc blended in would have been good. Also, it would have been great if each piece of music had been blended into each other. Keep it up
  23. Hi there, Thanks for the tip but no go. On each different machine I get a cyclic redundancy error which I think means that the CD is not going to work in any way, shape or form. I will see if I can get another copy soon. Thanks again
