  1. I checked first post because I remember that PeterP used red/silver combination for his build. There shouldn't be a problem. I am still making mine from 2 red and fly with stock silver during building. Silver sometimes overheats and stops working, red unit never did that. Maybe something to think about, but these are old used joysticks so I wouldn't make any assumptions that silver are worse. I am working on/off on my project for a few years now. I have it in a box similar to PeterP design. But I just recently ordered some electronic stuff to drive two systems from one board. I am planning to make a new topic when I finally do it. No real benefit in this, but it will look cleaner, and I will have spare red board because they will get rare to get over years.
  2. I have similar or worse specs and can run game fine. No stutters on 1080p even with headtracking. I have 4ghz dualcore CPU, cheapest 8GB stick of RAM, 4GB 760 and sytem on HDD, DCS on SSD (I still belive this is better). I am sure your hardware is more than adequate. I would guess that you have some chipset or disk driver problem that causes stutters when loading textures. Most graphic settings in game don't have large impact on performance while some absolutely kill performance. Are you sure you run DCS in fullscreen mode? Which DCS models you use and on which map? Some modules are way more demanding than others.
  3. That was the sound from the PC trying to produce 4K image:lol: I will try alt+enter when I get to that computer. We are also desperately trying to get quality HDMI cable to try, since I still think that might be part of the problem. Thanks for the tips about checking full screen mode.
  4. V-sync is enabled. It looks as it is doing fine at 30fps, it is running at full 60 only occasionally. No fps drop bellow 30 is seen with ingame fps counter when I provoke this tearing. This is not my computer, but I am trying to figure this out because I would like to go 4K sometime soon. Is it possible that low end 4K tv connected with HDMI cable isn't capable of drawing all frames? I would blame low power of CPU&GPU, but 1080p youtube video at 30 fps isn't really hard on PC and it also makes some tearing. I would first try with good HDMI cable, but there are none available locally.
  5. I am posting in this forum because this is not DCS related, it happens elsewhere also. Feel free to move if needed. Video is very bad, i recorded with my phone, but you should see what the problem is. I get this weird picture. I could describe it as tearing, but I don't know. It is happening at 4K resolution on relatively low end computer, but I also noticed it at lower resolutions. Does anybody know what is the source of this? Bad HDMI cable or low end graphic card (GTX 960)? It also happens with 1080p youtube videos. I googled a lot but couldn't find any info for causes of this phenomenon.
  6. I saw a petition few years ago for this sub to stay in place. There were some rumors it will be removed. Does someone have any info if this memorial is still open or if the rumors of closing are real? This trip is on my "to do" list, and I really don't want to miss this.
  7. I used flat aluminum and cut holes for motor shaft and bolts. You have to be careful not to use too long bolts. The idea is that gear teeth don't have play, but they also shouldn't be tight. For alignment of two joystick mechanisms I also used threaded rod in all 4 corners to connect them together besides motor mounts.
  8. +1 Cause we will probably never have viewports for FC3 planes.
  9. You could try Intel G3258 with b85m motherboard. It is Haswell based and can run at 4.2-4.3 ghz on stock cooler. Pair it with Nvidia graphic card and sell your leftover hardware. I know it is a big upgrade, but you could change only those 3 components and keep everything else. I don't know for what else you use your computer, but for DCS it will be an upgrade for probably no extra money.
  10. The Usual Suspects http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114814/
  11. This shouldn't be the problem for doctors if I know correctly. Doctor breaks code if he explicitly says what is the problem. But it is his duty to say fit/unfit and breaks no rule. The problem with company not knowing would probably be that doctors opinion was sent through mail and had a lot of desks to exchange when pilot received it sooner.
  12. A bit long video, but it shows the problems of rear COG flying. It shows some of the problems you have here. Violent pitch, too much pitch down will flip the plane, good high alpha characteristics... It is a RC video, but it is very good explanation of pros and cons of rear COG.
  13. Can't give you rep in this thread, but a big + from me for the holiday playlist.
  14. I expected much greater speeds from SSD's. I got tricked with bits and bytes and expected faster performance. I expected 5GB/s read speed, instead I have 500MB/s. I have relatively new HDD and it has 50% speed of SSD. Loading times also reduced to half. Ingame performance is the same. I didn't have stutters before. The only difference I noticed is that the textures in F11 view are loaded almost instantly. Edit: I have OS on HDD and games/programs on SSD.
