Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
Shadoware replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
This mod is fantastic! It's almost photorealistic! One of the things DCS needs the most is better ground textures. Awesome work! Actually I think the desert map with worst textures is Persian Golf. They are good when look from high altitude, but when you get close to the ground they looks horrible. -

JAS 39C Gripen Community Mod

This mod is really awesome! If possible, could you base Gripen's HMD cuing symbols design on Targo? Because Gripen E used in Brazil is using Elbit's Targo as HMD and I heard Gripen C will be upgraded too so it's possible that all Gripen C's will use Targo HMD at some point.- 397 replies

Yeah. The dollar exchange rate make us here to pay 5 times more! Terrible! Despite that, if we compare it to other simulators like MS flight Simulator, a single DCS map is still expansive!
-
Im not wanting to complain because I think DCS developers deserve their earnings but I think ED needs to rethink this: A single DCS map is costing the same as a full game if we compare to other games! I dont know how this goes in many countries but here, only the Syria map cost the same as Red Dead Redemption 2 alone or more than ILS battle for Stalingrad alone! Its cost the same as Cyberpunk 2077 or the same as new Microsoft flight simulator! (Actually in many sales you could get one of those referred games for half the price!) What do you think about that guys?

Those lights are really a bit dim. It can be harder to see depending on time of the day and sunlight. Usually it will be more visible when you are closer to tanker. Try to refuel in a different time of the day.

There are many NVG models and versions out there. I dont think any pilot would use a so limited version today. The monocular aspect can happen even when use a binocular NVG, but binocular NVG have a wider FOV anyway. Even if some airforces still uses F-16C anyone could easily adopt a more updated NVG. I think the only model that could create a visual like DCS would be a fully monocular like this: https://opticsmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/3879817571_e479ac6b47_b.jpg A binocular model but with only one lens wouldn't allow to see outside of circle view: https://www.optics4birding.com/media/images/products/151717-1.jpg A binocular like the following would allow to see outside of the circle but would have a bigger FOV: https://media.defense.gov/2012/Jan/30/2000182798/-1/-1/0/120125-F-ZE476-252.JPG

How to use NVG like this video instead of a monocle?

I noticed something strange and Im not sure if it has o do with this mod. Im testing Ga-Bika texture mod on Caucasus I chose the F-16 instant action to land and the mission starts with F-16 pointing to an airfield. I turned 180 degress and I saw separating line separating ground textures, each part of the ground with different color, one green and another brown. That happened in a bit extreme east part of the Caucasus next to Tbilise I think, as I get close to the separating line the brown texture started to become green too.

Nice! Moders are really improving DCS!

Could you make some random dark areas on the ground below trees(textured like foliage) to create a more continuous tree crown effect? This Caucasus Redone mod does something a bit like this but it could be better! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=255247
-
In real life it diminishes the aircraft RCS right? DCS consider this effect?
-
We could ask the ability to create terrain decorations mod in DCS wish list!
-
How can some people make aircraft mods to DCS like F35 etc? If they can change or add these mods there may be a way to create another tree models!
-
Cool picture. Your mod is great anyway.
-
I was just thinking something: When we look to some areas where there are too many trees in real life, often trees touch each other and create some kind of continuous leaves covered surfaces. Is it possible to create some trees bigger in the foliage part so they would touch each other in some places of the map and completely cover the ground?

Very good work! We need ED to make some mods official!

We all should ask Eagle Dynamics to make this mod official! Its mandatory! -
DCS World 2.5.x Caucasus Terrain Textures

I tried now and its great! Eagle Dynamic needs to make this official! -
DCS World 2.5.x Caucasus Terrain Textures
Shadoware replied to Mustang's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Suggestion just in case you decide to change something in the future: Could you make the grass near runway more uniform like this? When the aircraft is in the runway is the only moment we can see more unrealistic textures, but I think this happens in every game. -
DCS World 2.5.x Caucasus Terrain Textures
Shadoware replied to Mustang's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Im gonna use this modified terrainoptions41.lua too, thanks. What I think is strange in PG map is when we fly low, the desert texture makes hard to guess the altitude. When we fly high the map is beautiful.
