  1. I don't know if this issue is related to the update or not but I never had this problem before I downloaded it. So I'm doing the instant action stuff after the update to check out the "improvements". This seems a bit buggy. First....my head is stuck to the head rest of the plane. I cannot look back from the cockpit any more. This is a bug because it only occurs about half the time I get into the game. Is there a control that maybe turns this on and off as an option? Also....bullets. I can usually do a good job of hitting ground targets. After the update, it seems as though the rounds are going down range in this bazaar random spread. And it looks as though none of them are hitting the target...even when they are hitting the target. This seems to be the same with air to air. In ground attack I got so frustrated after I zoomed in as tight as possible and watched the rounds that are suppose to be hitting the tanks not actually make an impact. I finally just started shooting until I rammed the tank with the plane. Very few of the rounds seem to be making contact even though I know they are going to the target. Anyone else having this issue? Before the update I could easily take out ground targets, now...its a crap shoot. Air to air is pretty much the same. I see the tracers go into the plane but the bullet has no impact. Very frustrating.
  2. OK...I stand corrected. Got the update installed. It does have an in game control adjust option. So....sorry and thanks!
  3. Seems that the update needs an update. Freezes @ 505.3 MB every time. Looks like lots of folks having issues. Oh well.....I'll just wait until they fix it. Someone told me that this update would make it so that you could go to the options menu in game and work with controls. I guess that was just a fantasy.
  4. [redacted] A-10C [redacted] A-10A Here you go people......this garbage is off the computer as of today....whoever wants it can have it. I got too much of a life to waste months on learning this ridiculous game.
  5. Wow.....lol. Folks...I could absolutely care less about my reputation on this forum. I think it's pretty friggin hilarious that this feature even exists. Red blue green.....its all just letters and numbers on my screen to me. So by that measure. You folks have more than proven my point by your responses. Your answers are not solutions...they're attacks on someone who doesn't live for this game and sees it for what it is. Just look through this thread and carefully read every response. Everything I have said is carefully and painstakingly restated in this topic as not to hurt anyone's feelings. And indeed.....my feelings are not hurt by your responses to me. Why??? Two reasons......1. I have a life and don't really care about this game all that much. Nor do I have the time or energy (after living my life) to think all that much about it or this forum. 2. Everything I have stated here is based on my personal experience with DCS and this game. I am sure that all of you have boatloads of your own experiences. And from your very soft and subtle replies....many of you have had the same experience. As for the whole joystick issue.....man who really cares. If you got the time and money to sink into it...go for it. But there are those of us with real expenses and real lives outside of this thing. And if I can fly Xplane or FSX, or any sim without having to invest $500 in hardware, and on top of that if I have to go months (as was stated on another individual on another thread of this same forum) before I can get anything out of this sim.....then it's just not everyone's cup of tea. Certainly not mine from what I'm gathering by the attitude of this forum. If you guys think I am full of myself then go invest in Xplane and see the difference. I promise you this.......you'll not like the way DCS handles compared to Xplane. You can actually fly the Xplane P-51 without having to adjust every friggin axis or button in the game. Realism is one thing......making the sim so hard to deal with on any level is another. And again....I really do like playing around with the P-51. But I know that it is not by any means remotely close to its real world counterpart. And....that is my point. Who cares if it is or is not....the gentleman who posted this thread made a statement. I merely agreed and explained why. Every mother's son of a brother had to attack it as though I were calling their mother a nasty name. And guess what...I knew that you would. Horses....water...read your own forum.........lol hmmm.......reputation.....ROFL. Get real.......Freedom of speech.....yeah, right.
  6. Why are we harping on the Joystick issue? I don't care if your using a Saitek X52, cyborg, or even a Logitech 3D pro. The plane is hard to maneuver due to the way it is set up, not the joystick. When you bank, much of the time you start to shake uncontrollably unless you know the exact paremeters of the virtual plane, not its real world counterpart. So yes....any pilot who's use to a real plane will kind of suffer a shock of sorts. This is the software......not the stick. I do not feel my stick shaking.....I have used 3 different sticks on this sim....all yield the same result. Wow.....now we're just grasping straws. just admit that your not the all knowing of flight sims and this sim, along with many others is just not real, nor does it act real. And when someone comes here and asks about it, rather than get defensive and blame them or their system, just tell em....yeah, it takes some getting use to and no......it's not a real P-51 and by nature....it cannot act like one. So to enjoy it....you have to learn to make the adjustments. How hard is that???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? LOL....my reputation is in the red..........Telling the truth must not be popular here.
  7. My my my....we're a defensive bunch aren't we.......... Like I initially posted, I like DCS. I enjoy playing it. I'm not disputing whether its a good game or not. I'm not saying its bad at all. What I am saying is that when anyone I have ever had fly this thing was a pilot, it took them no time at all to dismiss it's claims that it flies like the real deal. But you guys are so defensive about it that you are looking past 99% of the picture. 1. You do not get the sensation of G forces in any sim that's on your home computer. This makes a big difference in feel and reduces your judgement as a pilot to know exactly how steep or subtle your turning banks are. Even so...DCS is more limited than the real plane. I have flown in Cesnas that in real life seem to out turn this P-51. I have likewise been told this by a number of pilots. But who cares....I adjusted and play the game. 2. The world distance judgement is worlds different on a computer screen than in real life. So you cannot use your binary vision to establish depth or distance from a given object. 3. These planes aren't friggin real guys. Their computer likenesses. That makes a huuuuge difference. 4. Even the joystick itself is problematic. In a real P-51, you have a real stick that's attached to cables beneath the floor. The stick is over 2 feet long. Your rudder is all rigging. Theres no way on god's green earth you ar going to pull these characteristics out of a computer game. If there were a way.....they'ed be training real pilots with this stuff. But they're not. And there is a reason for that. You can fly Xplane (they claim to be the best) and do touch and goes on a runway. It takes less than 1/2 the time for you to go around the airport in a P-51 in Xplane than it does the P-51 in DCS. Same distances, speeds, everything. yet the two are so different that you cannot even compare them. Who's right? Both claim to be. Now....Xplane, DCS, and FSX have tons of people like the one guy there who has seen all these great aces play the game who swear by every pilot that ever lived that their simulator is the one. This sim is just like sitting in the real deal. In fact....all three companies make that same claim and all say they can back it up with real pilot's testimony. Yet all three fly so completely different that there is no friggin way that any 2 of them can be correct in their claim. And...the pilots that I have been around when they've played DCS have all said....It's overly done. Too hard to keep the plane steady in hard maneuvering. Turn radiuses are way off. And no matter how you adjust your stick, when you get to that point where the plane shakes......it's just not real. All of the people I have had fly these sims pretty much put Xplane at the front for flight characteristics. But not for scenery, or detail. The detail goes to DCS and the scenery is a toss up between FSX and DCS. So it doesn't matter what anyone says about the sim. I relate to the original poster's issue. I feel the same way about the game. but I got use to it and now I enjoy it. I can come up with one more comparison. I am a combat veteran. I was thought certain things about staying alive in really bad situations. Several years ago I went out and bought C.O.D. I lasted about 3 seconds every time I would spawn because I had to literally try and forget everything I ever had pounded into my skull about survival. Why?? Because Battlefield, C.O.D., and those others....are absolutely nothing like real life combat. The principle is completely different. People are not afraid of dying, bullets don't do nearly as much damage, and every loser and their brother is using an RPG, or grenade launcher like a shotgun. Yet both games claim to be as real as you can get..........Have you ever tasted your tongue out of fear? That's real.....I never felt afraid playing a video game. So the bottom line here is that anyone can claim that this is the most real sim on earth....but there are plenty of other sim enthusiasts and actual pilots who beg to differ. Same with Xplane, and FSX. So argue away....your not right, nor am I, it's all in your head.
  8. Look. I don't care what a bunch of total strangers on a forum tell me. I know what 3 experienced pilots that I watched try and fly both this and Xplane told me. Now....I see everyone's words here on this forum. But I personally watched 3 guys who knew these planes in and out tell me that this sim is inaccurate. So....nuff said! you got stories on the internet. I saw what I saw and was told what I was told by real human beings....not some internet ad, page, or testimonial. I'll stick with my actual real world experience. Contrary to popular belief by many......they are aloud to lie on the internet. But when I have a retired combat veteran A-10 (a Col none the less) pilot sitting here in front of me asking me how the heck do ya fly this thing....I'll take reality over written stories any day.
  9. YES!!!!! I understand everything you are saying! 99% of the people posting here don't find this to be any big deal. But I have to agree with you 100%. This plane does not fly like a P-51 would fly. Now...I am not a pilot but I do work with a lot of pilots. I paint logos on WWII AC. So I know people who have flown a P-51. I have a good friend who restores WWII planes and has flown a P-51 several times. He spent about 10 minutes on this sim before he told me that he hated it and it was just wrong. But!!! He also said the same about Xplane. He did like Xplane because some of the heavier AC were very accurate. He also said the even though both sims are off, Xplane was a lot closer to the real P-51. But he said that both sims were way off. But to his mind....DCS was just ridiculous. Before I get attacked (and I will). I just want to say that after getting use to DCS, I enjoy it very much. There are aspects of this sim that I find to be great fun. But I had to get around the hokeyness of the way this sim controls, and always argued that it is by no means (other than visually) an accurate depiction of how a P-51 should fly. So in conclusion, I really like DCS. But I know that no matter what people on this or any forum say, it is not just like the real deal. I play it for what it is. I also have the A-10a, and c. And again...I took one Vietnam error A-10 pilot and one pilot who currently flies out of Davis Monthan AFB and both said that the DCS A-10 is only a fraction as manuverable as the ones they fly. They said it was much harder to control and too easy to lose control of. And both were just annoyed with all of the configurations of buttons. I just started flying the A-10C and I told the A-10 forum that I probably won't even use it because I just don't have the time to learn the overly detailed systems. And both of my A-10 pilots told me the same thing. And I was very pleased to hear the one who I had watch the tutorial videos say that he wouldn't want to fly the A-10 as a casual gamer because the instructions are only half as detailed as the craft and they don't explain what most of this stuff is. They seem to go on the assumption that your already a pilot when your doing this. So even though I enjoy the P-51, I still take it for what it is....a game that handles like a game. The A-10.......in my opinion, too many people with way too much time on their hands. I won't play it.
  10. FSX and Xplane are very strait forward and for the most part very easy once you get the hang of them. The P-51 in DCS was somewhat of a challenge and I really enjoyed getting to know it. The P-51 in Xplane is pretty much a cartoon after the DCS plane. And I really think it is funny how both sims tout how their planes are more like their real world counterparts than any others. But the funny thing is that both P-51s handle so differently that you would never think your flying the same kind of plane. And I always wonder which one is more correct. In my opinion I think that the DCS P-51 is much more realistic from the visual standpoint but the Xplane version handles more like I would think a P-51 would fly. But since I have never flown a P-51 I can only speculate this. The A-10C in X plane handles a lot different that the DCS A-10c also. And again....I feel the same way about it. I have flown in a lot of planes in my day. Small, huge, all sizes of commercial jets and props. And as a boy I lived near Wright Patterson AFB where many of my relatives worked. I use to go into the museum there and could sit in the cockpit of most any kind of plane you can imagine. WPAFB has the largest museum and collection of planes on earth. Everything from the Wright brothers plane "The Kitty Hawk" to the YF22. I have sat in the cockpits of Spitfires, ME109s and even "The Strawberry Bitch". But never flown in any of them. I am a WWII enthusiast. that's why I purchased the P-51. I have yet to find any servers for DCS that are good P-51 servers. The ones I do find have 200+ pings.
  11. Yo!! Thanks for all the replies guys. I read all of them. I went ahead and started watching these tutorials. As aggravating as they are because they cannot be rewound or really stopped with any kind of effectiveness when something goes wrong, I'm still trying to give this thing a go. I have no issues flying the plane or landing, taking off. It's all of the other mumbo jumbo that's a pain in the butt. The weapons system, SOI and all that stuff is where I'm having the problems. You can't just light up the 30mm and go. You have to push any multitude of buttons to get this and that. This is where I'm aggravated. But....I'll keep plugging where I have the time and see where it goes. My work consumes a fair amount of my life so that's why I said I don't have time to learn this thing. I have already invested 13 hours into it and couldn't use the weapons system if I had to. Again...thanks for the replies!
  12. OK...I don't think that you guys are following me on this. I already have the P-51, I have the A-10A and I owned Flaming Cliffs at one time, and I gave it away for much the same reasons. I must have forgotten how much time you had to invest. I also fly Xplane, and FSX. And again......none of these are as ridiculously complicated as this plane. I have plenty of brain power. I just do not have the time or the desire to use it on this game. That's all. Nothing personal, no angst, I'm just not into it. I'm not debating how others feel about it. I just want to know....can I give the serial number to someone who will enjoy the hours of learning involved in flying this A-10A sim?
  13. Yes...yes I did. I'm not being mean, nor am I upset. I just don't have the time to try and learn to perform 6-8-10 key commands for every little function. I'm just not into that. It's just not for me.
  14. I just purchased the A-10C. My only question is....Really? Is this thing overcomplicated or what? I can't even make heads or tales of the tutorials. They're spotty and skip around too much so you really don't have any clue of what they are talking about.... So are you people that play this thing already A-10 pilots or what? I don't see myself taking the time to learn all of this. So is there a way I can just give this thing to someone who has the time and desire to sit for hours and learn it? Will the serial number or whatever transfer to another computer? If not, I'm just going to take it off the computer anyway.
  15. I purchased the A-10A yesterday. And yes it does work but only to a degree (for me anyway). Otherwise: You only get one quick mission with it and that's pretty much it. If you have the A-10A with DCS World, you cannot really do the set up fast missions because the plane will only arm with the cannon. It will not let you arm with any missiles so your pitted against all kinds of capable bad guys and all you have is a cannon. So it's pretty senseless for that unless you can down fighter planes or helos with an A-10 with a gun. When you click on quick mission its just a close air support mission and there are no other options. And there are no training missions. So it's worth the $5.99 I paid but I wouldn't spring for the $14.99 price. Also, the training videos on it are pretty vague and spotty so you kind of do a lot of trial and error learning.
