  1. I just flushed the DNS with the command. And it allowed me to download the Huey training missions. Thanks! I should have missed the information ED certainly cast somewhere after the server maintenance. Sorry about that. Apparently that was a part of the problem because I couldn't download the FC3 videos just after the Huey training missions ('Servers can't handle your request') (without shutting down the AV+firewall). But I just restarted DCS a few minutes ago and it downloaded the fix, you were talking about, c0ff. I tried to download the FC3 videos again and it worked! Huge thanks to you for fixing the issues swiftly. If I could, I'd upload you a drink right from my tropical island   Great work! That should help a lot of users.
  2. Thanks for your help. I've tried it the hard way: I completely uninstalled my security suite rebooted the computer uninstalled DCS World + modules re-installed DCS World 1.2.7.23097.351-294 (without any module) started the update process (checking 'run as administrator' for good measure) After a short DCS_updater.exe update and a following message window advising to apply the hotfix, I clicked OK and it went back to : 'Couldn't resolve host name' The DCS_updater.exe version number is now: 2.3.6.47. I had absolutely no problem with 1.2.6 back in december (including downloading the training files) and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed in my OS, network settings or even the hardware. I really can't see what could be wrong on my side. I have no problem updating anything else. My other computer runs Ubuntu, so I can't try to install DCS on that one (without installing the same Windows 8 I have). I currently only miss the Huey training missions (I think) but the updater probably won't update correctly from now on (?). If anyone could send me the latest DCS_updater.exe, I'll still take it  Thanks! [EDIT]: I've sent a ticket to the user support.
  3. Almost ok! I finally uninstalled everything (except the \Saved Games\DCS folder) and reinstalled DCS World. I tried to update with the shortcut ('run as admin', AV+firewall off) and the updater changed it's version successfully (v2.3.5.45 to v2.3.6.47), but then I obtained a new request to apply the hotfix. I clicked OK/Yes/Do your stuff. And it failed with that error message: 'Couldn't resolve host name'. I have the same message if I try to download the training files (videos/missions) from the DCS UI. I can't download the Huey training missions. I have to notify that I've already downloaded everything without any trouble with my first 1.2.6 a few weeks ago, and with the same antivirus + firewall (Eset Smart Security 7), same rig, etc. It was less cloudy though :D I have plenty to do until it's fixed and beside that updater issue, DCSW+modules 1.2.7 run flawlessly (and what a delight to fly those beasts!). I would have just preferred installing everything while I have some time to manage these things. So I'm just reporting the issue and what I've done. It may be useful to some other user or at least bring some light on that kind of problem. I hope so :) If someone from the ED team comes by, here's what I have when I try to 'repair' DCS: === Log opened UTC 2014-01-27 08:34:25 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.3.6.47 (Windows NT 6.2.9200; Win64; en-US) INFO : cmdline: "E:\[ SIM ]\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" --apply repair STATUS: Initializing... 4. They probably still don't have a big enough fireball for that thing to explode politely. Mysterious ATZ-60: The Farm A picture is wrong too. But the most confusing thing is that the names in the encyclopedia are different from the names in the mission editor. A very inspired lad has edited a useful reference here. >>> direct link <<< name + corresponding picture =
  5. Yes, I specifically modified the 'Compatibility' tab for DCS_updater.exe and the shortcut itself (with the 'update' command). If someone could send me the latest DCS_updater.exe I could test if it causes the issue (doesn't update anymore, can't download the training videos). Please  My email is my nickname + @gmail. I'll report back. Thanks.
  6. Same problem here. The updater failed to update itself when I started the update procedure from 1.2.6 to 1.2.7. I'm stuck with the DCS_updater.exe v2.3.5.45 instead of the latest v2.3.6.47. Windows 8, 64-bit, Eset Smart Security 7 (latest version), fresh DCS World 1.2.7 installed from the server files. Admin rights ON and firewall + AV OFF without any success. DCS World + modules are running fine but I can't DL the training videos (I just suspect it's related).
  7. Ah thanks. So that's what I thought, I have the wrong version and it can't update itself. :( Would you be kind enough to upload this version somewhere please (I could pm you my email)?
  8. LOMAC is not required to install FC3 with 1.2.7 as stated in the changelog. --- Could anyone confirm the latest version number for the DCS_updater.exe please? Mine is: 2.3.5.45 Size: 2.15 MB (…DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe, then right click, Properties and check the 'Details' tab) I can't download the training videos. I'm not sure if it could be related. Thanks!
  9. To my knowledge, it can only navigate through the system device (HD/SSD) containing …\Saved Games\DCS\Missions and it does not recognize the folder shortcuts. Just transfer your missions if they don't eat all the space? --- Btw, the missions interface tweaks provide a more comprehensive environment to navigate through the different modules more easily. Nice addition.
  10. No idea why it didn't work with the updater (w/ admin rights and even no firewall & AV) but I finally downloaded DCS World from the servers and the modules with the torrents (now seeding). My installation path is: E:\[ SIM ]\DCS World (the brackets could have confused the updater perhaps?) So that's a fresh install and thanks to the Saved Games/DCS folder, my settings and liveries are safe! I just fired up the Su-33 and: WOW! What a stunning model! :notworthy: Absolutely wonderful job from ED! Please release the texture template! It will be a delight to taste the improvements bit by bit with that huge changelog. Thanks again, ED, for the great work, and you guys, for helping people out and beta-testing the update!
  11. Nice to see the 1.2.7 is out of beta. I thought it would be weeks away. Thanks ED! Anyway, I'm having some difficulties updating the thing. I first ran the updater (as admin), it checked the installation then proceeded after a notification about the v1.2.6.9999… and I think I noticed a message about replacing the updater (I was away from the screen). It seems it replaced the updater and then nothing else happened. I restarted the updater shortcut several times but it just displays «Checking for updates…» and disappears. May the servers be busy? Or perhaps I've done too many requests and my IP is blocked and queued for a specific time? Any idea guys? Thanks and have fun with the improvements!
  12. Thanks a lot for your efforts Home Fries! I remember I downloaded the excellent Ironhand's videos back in FC 1.12 and having those available in the DCSW UI is a great addition. And if we have to watch them and pause them on a second monitor they are here: …\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\Flaming Cliffs\Missions\EN\Training I hope Wags will find the time to produce the interactive training missions for FC3 (delivered with the new AFMs? :music_whistling:) The problem with the current vids (except the 4:3 ratio) is that the sound mixing awfully drawn the voiced instructions in a loud maelstrom of engines roarings and stuff. At least it's now without any loading time ;)
  13. With the HDR and some direct sun glare, I would have been happy to preserve the pilot's retinas. Unfortunately, I think it's a very specific task to change the lightning/rendering in a portion of the rendered frame/screen. That may be why it isn't implemented and why it's so bad in BS2. Out of curiosity, I also opened the model viewer and the cockpit seems pretty much ready at a DCS level (almost every switch/button/… is animated). Let's hope for the best. In the meanwhile, I think it should be easier to implement a Zsh-7ap helmet retractable visor, and thus changing the whole rendered image (reduce HDR values, colors, and the sun halo size) (but it probably won't help the HUD readability while facing the sun). Maybe a mod could do that? PeterP and Diveplane have made some nice mods, but I don't know if it's possible to change the HDR/halo on the fly via a lua script or something. I assume it's not possible to dynamically change the hdr.fx values (or something similar) without restarting the 3D engine?
  14. Thanks for that thread! I was wondering about the Su-27/Su-33 flight dynamics differences too. I've read somewhere in the forum that the new Su-27 AFM won't make its way in v1.2.7 (release) but that info (from ED staff) may be outdated. And that video is really exciting: I'm currently training with the Su-27 and the landings feel scripted and too forgiving, especially when you land one of the wheels a bit hard. For comparison, here's what we have with a real Su-27: Pretty close! Great work from ED!
  15. Thanks for the help and the informations! As I'm really interested in the VKB design, that's partly why I was considering buying a standalone throttle. My hesitation regarding the Warthog is because I'd rather not have a full A-10C HOTAS replica, especially for the throttle, and because my current reseller only has the flight stick available (and no full WT HOTAS) (I live on a tiny island in the Indian ocean = wild shipping costs or no shipping available from a specific resellers). Even if I've read it's a great product. Anyway, I'm currently considering that HOTAS as the best solution (availability-and-quality-wise). I'm also slightly worried about the X-55 throttle quality (no hall-effect sensor) (despite the attractive number of rotaries and buttons/switches). I'll wait for your opinions and other reviews. In the meanwhile, I will use a freshly ordered Logitech Extreme 3D pro for training. Thanks again for your help and advices.
  16. Great insight about the Su-27 program! Thanks for sharing! Fortunately, I had the time to grab the vid from the first link. Thanks for the new links ФрогФут ;)
  17. Hi! Is there a chance the X-55 throttle would be available alone? I couldn't find a X-52 pro throttle for sale, even via eBay and it seems Saitek only sales the complete HOTAS? (apparently it can be used alone on it's own USB port - if I'm correct?) I plan to buy a Warthog stick or a VBK Fat Black Mamba with the X-55 throttle if that's not too tricky. Do you think it would be possible (I live in the Indian Ocean)? Thanks!
  18. Hi! I found an interesting 8 pages article about the Ka-52 and the Ka-50 program in the Combat Aircraft Monthly volume 15 (February 2014). It's mostly about the program evolution and past difficulties and about the Ka-52's technology. As I just grabbed BS2 with the recent sales, it was a good read  More info through that link.
  19. Hey, Thanks for sharing that profile and its useful illustration! Using all the side buttons as modifiers is a great idea. I've just ordered a 3D pro and I'll try something similar with FC3 and BS2 in a few days. Cheers.
  20. Hello! Thanks for the app. It's shaping up pretty well! I'm using it for some quick searches on a 8" tablet. The page display is fine (the landscape is a bit messy but the portrait orientation is ok -> a bigger font option could improve the readability). >>> The 'Range' info is displayed in meters instead of kilometers. And, by the way, the imperial/metric options are a great feature! I appreciate the brief descriptions. In fact, even if a quick reference is practical, I miss the Jane's series 'Reference'/encyclopedia since Flanker 2. :book: Would that be possible to include more information in your app?
