  1. Excellent video with lots of valuable info. Interesting to see how the attitude is controlled when deploying the flaps before landing. Thanks for sharing!
  2. Some formation flying tests (AI lead).
  3. Yes, please! This has to become available for the Yak. The STOL capability and good shock absorption make it possible to operate the Yak on small unprepared airfields. We need this ;) [ This might be already planned but not included, so maybe that's why it should be in the bug section? Otherwise, I guess a wishlist would be more appropriate. ]
  4. Indeed! Thanks for linking the correct thread ;)
  5. Thanks for your impressions and feedback guys! It's precious info, especially as both of you noticed similar discrepancies based on your own experience with the Yak. It really helps enjoying the module in a more educated manner and better awareness. Speaking of control devices, I'd strongly suggest a precise control stick in the center position and stick extension (VKB-Sim Gunfighter, Warthog + extension, VirPil base + extension + grip, etc.). A side desktop basic joystick just can't provide the same amount of accuracy and control you would achieve in the real Yak. That's definitely part of the experience. Can't wait for the next videos. Basic instruction, tips, and/or impressions will be greatly appreciated!
  6. Very nice! I really don't have much to show as I merely pressed the screenshot button because the Yak brings so much joy. But I fully support the idea of such a topic, sharing beautiful shots for a lovely aircraft and ED's craft.
  7. Thanks a million to AcroGimp for sharing his experience and impressions with us! I'm having a blast with the Yak and I really wasn't excited about it before release. I'm now in the process of learning what I can. I really hope ED will fix the few discrepancies and EA hiccups along the way. The next patch certainly makes it look like it. I thought I'd share this video from AcroGimp as it's really interesting and I didn't see it on the Yak forum. Maybe I just missed it.
  8. I think Dudikoff makes a good point and refers to the OLS/IRST switch in the simulator (controls configuration). As we don't have an actual mode selector like the real one, it's probably a quick solution implemented by ED at the time when Flaming Cliffs was developed. Therefore the sensor selection method we have in the current module is not correct (compared to the real one). Maybe there's a way do modify the lua configuration to get a mode selection closer to reality? Also check Stealth HR's post for reference. ---- As the notification brought me here, I've just spent a few minutes to update the Engines Mode texture tweak for the latest cockpit texture. The original texture for the Su-27 has been slightly updated since the PBR implementation (or earlier). If anyone's interested: su27_cpt_panel03.zip It still adds the labels to this toggle switch: I'd suggest using OvGME and checking the correct path as it's slightly different from the previous version. (…\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\Flaming Cliffs\Cockpit\Textures\SU-27S-CPT-TEXTURES.zip)
  9. Thanks a lot! And thank you, AcroGimp for sharing your version! Those are really helpful and help getting the most out of our (already) beloved Yak ;)
  10. Maybe ED is still tweaking the light rendering and thus postponed the rework of specific the night lighting tech (including the halo lights from the taxiways, runways and aircraft nav lights). They'd have to balance the whole thing again if they'd change the lighting intensity, contrast, saturation and whatnot. At least, that would be a reasonable explanation given the slow process of improving the rendering. The deffered shading for the cockpits has been greatly improved in the recent versions. I know I didn't fly for months until recently and the cockpits now look much more balanced and realistic. Of course, that's just an optimistic thought. Whatever is happening it doesn't change the fact that flying at night without NVG is not that practical. I know I'll avoid it at all cost now that I've checked how it's currently rendered. I guess I/we can just hope for the best, but nothing anytime soon.
  11. ^ that's even $3.99 if you have bonus points to spare. I also bought the NS430 day one (for the Mi-8 ). I wish I could pay the same amount to get the Garmin GTN 750 and 650 3D models in the aircraft of my choice in X-Plane. Believe me, in XP it's a pita to put that kind of instrument in a virtual cockpit if they're not already shipped with the proper integration.
  12. Garminized harder :music_whistling: It's just some fancy startup pages but at least it looks more immersive (and it's pixel perfect, thanks to the native resolution used by the NS430). Unfortunately I can't share this as a mod as I extracted the pages from a payware plugin for X-Plane.
  13. So we do have the NS430 in the back seat! That's actually great and increases the shared cockpit features. The only mention I've seen about the 3D model suggests it's in the front cockpit when the gunsight is removed: They should update the description ;) Thanks for the info @NineLine!
  14. Is this still planned/confirmed? That would be nice indeed!
  15. VR or not, I guess Caucasus and NTTR could use some serious improvements: (Tbilisi) I don't mind poor lighting on the ground but I can't even see the navigation and strobe lights from my wingmen. The light halos still use the billboard rendering technique and I think that might be a serious limiting factor with the new PBR integration. It's a shame because the overall lighting is just gorgeous. EDGE just fail at city lights and navigation lights.
  16. I also would gladly pay for an additional integration in another aircraft (TF-51D would be nice, as it's a non-military variant, and there's space for the GPS in the cockpit). My reason is I don't have much time to learn and get decently familiar with the military fighters or helos anymore. Not with that level of complexity. And I also enjoy flying in X-Plane where I use an accurate GNS 530/430 simulation (via Reality XP plugins). And you can't get anything more accurate as they're based on the Garmin trainers and use Garmin data. So the NS430, even in this early, not feature-complete version, is a fine option for the L-39C that I enjoy flying for its level of accuracy and realism in DCS - something we don't have for such a high performance jet in X-Plane. So imho, and for my use, the NS 430 is a neat addition, and as shown elsewhere it's a fine navigation aid for combat purposes in the Mi-8 (less so in the L-39C). One of the most important missing page/feature is the TAS/TCAS. But it's probably hard to implement for balance and "gameplay" reasons.
  17. I think one of the best solutions that could be implemented would be similar to how we use keys on a keyboard: - single press held for less than 500ms (or so) and you have a single character/action. - hold the key longer than 500ms and the character/action is repeated at a given rate per second. With that we have accuracy for single presses and scroll functions (scrolling through letters (ICAOs, etc.), lists or moving the cursor in map mode, using the knobs, with the NS430). And it's also intuitive and familiar to most users. It would have been useful to get this from start. At least, that's how I'd see it for multiple uses including physical encoders, momentary switches, buttons, etc.
  18. Same struggle of getting that little knob rotating as expected. It keeps rotating the big knob instead. I've been using head-tracking + zoom in + mouse cursor + shaolin meditation.
  19. Thanks for the workaround! I had the very same issue. ---- ^I assume Galwran would like a faster "scroll rate"/"repeated steps" when you hold down a button in comparison to the speed achieved with a single press.
  20. LazyBoot meant "Control Options" (where you configure your keybindings):
  21. It's probably an old picture from an internal test a while back. The bezel is overlapping the lights. Also, a GPS unit is a rather complex instrument (even a "simple" GNS 430), with lots of coding behind it. It can certainly be used as a navigation aid, study instrument, and just to fly around and practice basic and advanced navigation skills in a trainer such as the L-39C. I would have enjoyed it in the ZA for its terrain avoidance capabilities though. Or expanded instruction options.
  22. Typical spelling error ^_^ At least they fixed it in the folder structure a while ago. Report this as a bug, it's an easy fix for a future patch ;)
  23. The unit is only available in the front cockpit. As noted in the product description. ---- I also "Garminized" my module but I failed to change the startup pages (where we should see the Garmin logo). The .png I saved are not loaded correctly (blank screen instead) - so I would assume it might be hardcoded? Or did someone manage to change those pages? (location: …\Mods\aircraft\NS430\Cockpit\Scripts\avionics) I wish we had a proper cover for the back of the unit as it's wildly protruding between the back of the dashboard and the windshield. But to my understanding it's how it's implemented as the 3D model (and GPS unit) is just mounted in the L-39 without altering any 3D model. Still looks a bit weird. Also, the GPS is not visible on the L-39 exterior model as the gunsight is still installed on the exterior 3D model. (I'm not sure if it's a bug or a simplified implementation for this option, as the L-39C was not initially planned without a gunsight)
  24. Just bought the (G)NS 430 for the L-39. Everything you need to control the unit is available in the Control Options. It's listed as an individual module: (not visible on that screenshot are the VLOC and Range controls) I didn't get the 2D popup option as I prefer the virtual cockpit version.
  25. SkyVector (sectional chart) is usable for the most part as the elevation data, roads, railroads, power lines and natural features are present on the Nevada terrain. As it's not a 1:1 recreation of the area, you won't find every airport and airfield (no quick stop at Temple Bar, or engine melting at Furnace Creek). Some important PoIs are also present (like Solar One) but not every structure is present. I think there's a thread somewhere referencing some recognisable buildings (hotels, etc.). The ingame map layers are much more interesting for tactical use but SkyVector can be used for general navigation. And there's a detailed Groom Lake area, which is not on SkyVector at all (for obvious reasons). ED managed to dodge the MiBs so far ;)
