  1. Hi Bitmaster,

Today I undid everything I did and tried your tips. I got stuck in the first steps.

1- Load default bios via F5 - Booted

2- Reseted computer, into bio again, tried to use only the XMP... Waited for 5 minutes and the MOBO never booted...

At this moment I went back to F5 values.

It gets the memory frequency and settings perfectly, but the computer never boots.

Any tip about hunging up with only XMP changed?

    Tks for your posts!

Looking forward to hear from you.

  2. Gents,

This post is my first trial. Don't do it. Go to Post #67 and read the optimum tunning for this rig:

I will post a small list of what I did in the BIOS to OC my Rig to CPU at 5Ghz and DRAM at 3600Mhz. GPU OC didn't work quite right so far and I think I will skip it. So, here it goes

Asus Rog Formula IX + I7-7700k Overclocking

1 - CPU Core Ration Sync all Cores

    2 - 1-CPU CORE RATIO ................50

    3- AI XMP .....................................ENABLE

    4- XTREME TWEAKING ...............ENABLE

    5- TPU ..........................................KEEP CURRENT SETTINGS

    6- EPU PWR SAVING ...................DISABLE

    7- CPU SVID SUPPORT ...............DISABLE

    8- INTERNAL CPU PWR MANAGE

    INTEL SEED STEP ...................DISABLE

    9- TWEAKER PARADISE

    CPU CORE/CACHE VOLTAGE..1.38 (reduced to 1.35v)

    10- ADVANCED TAB

    CPU

    CPU PWR MANAGEMENT

    CPU C-STATES....................DISABLE

I hope it helps with some of you doing OC in a similar rig.

    All the best,

    Sydy

  3. Now it is time to search the holy gral of my 3600Mhz Vengeance! :detective:

    I will try your settings...

    I will let you know.

    Hi guys,

It was pretty hard and pretty easy... Yep... Let me tell you...

I went through all tests and recommendations and tried a bit of everything... Got several hang ups and freezes... No joy... After about 30 boots and tries, I remembered that this memory kit had XMP compatibility and the motherboard as well. Whatever it is... LOL

I went into the manual, checked where I'd find it, wento into the bios (updated already), undid the DRAM experiments and just enabled AI XMP... It got right away 3598Mhz, 16-19-19-1.35v. I will not fight for the missing 2Mhz... LOL

Ran DCS 2.1 and 1.5.6. to check how stable the system was and the results were fantastic.

I repeated the NTTR test. Benchmark wise:

    Before any OC:

    Temperature average of 30C

    After CPU OC

    Temperature average of 33C

Flying DCS from 45C to 65C (just one peak) and average of 48-50C

Test over NTTR F-5E Free flight flying under hoover dam bridge. flying over Boulder City, down the Las Vegas strip at 500kt, over the desert and landing 21 Nellis.

FPS of 43-48 (got 5-8fps more)

Over the strip with mirrors and everything maxxed out, at 4k, (most of it) it was 28fps.

    Final rwy 21 Nellis 31-32fps.

Now with CPU at 5Ghz and DRAM at 3600Mhz:

    Temperature average of 35C

Flying DCS from 48C to 65C (just one peak) and average of 48-53C

    CPU Load around only 30%

GPU Load 100% (my bootleneck now) and temperature 70-74C

GPU alway stays around 50C in idle anyway.

Test over NTTR F-5E Free flight flying under hoover dam bridge. flying over Boulder City, down the Las Vegas strip at 500kt, over the desert and landing 21 Nellis.

FPS of 44-54 (got 7-14fps more from original benchmark)

Over the strip with mirrors and everything maxxed out, at 4k, (most of it) it was 29fps (5%gain but pretty flyable - even straffed the Stratosphere! LOL).

    Final rwy 21 Nellis 35-37fps.

Then I tried DCS 1.5.6. F-5E instant action Air to Air. The first try I was with 190 in the air, and landed Kobulety with 80fps flying low. Decided to up AA to 4x and water to max. It dropped 20fps to 60+ on final.

But I still think I can squeeze a bit more from my Gigabyte GTX1080 doing some overclocking in it. I will study a bit more...

I am really happy with the results. I'd like to thank you all for the tips. My only wish now was to recover my CH Control Manage Mapped mode... But, I can live with that in Direct Mode until I get my A-10 Warthog! :D

Thanks guys and I wish you the best,

    Sydy

  4. The real deal with 5G is your 3600XMP !!!

Till 4.8 things go pretty straight forward, any higher and your IMC will gladly take the word on what's possible and what not.

Try 5G with 2133 first, to see if the core does it without stressing the IMC.

Then increase the RAM speed slowly and test test test :)

Likely more than vCore has to be tuned. VCC-IO, VCC-SA and vDIMM are likely too low for 5G/3600.

Look at my Volts in my sig as a rough guideline.

In addition, likely LLC, PowerPhase Management and such may need to be set too.

Booting beeping and posting may get troublesome. Find your sweetspot.

Now it is time to search the holy gral of my 3600Mhz Vengeance! :detective:

    I will try your settings...

    I will let you know.

  5. Hi David OC,

Pretty nice walk through! Thanks a lot.

The only thing I didn't do was the BIOS update. I remember mine was from march this year, I will double check for 906.

I really don't know how win 10 is "understanding" the Control Manager renaming the HIDs, but I saw in CH-Hangar it is a widespreade desease... :-( Happens.

I just have to tweak DRAM now and solve this CH problem. Let's see!

Tks a lot for your time!

    All the best,

    Sydy

  6. Hi Sydy,

I had no problems with CH Manager in win 10? What version are you using? V 4.55a? Check your antivirus isn't messing with it.

I left you a post about this after your post in the thread I started. I also left a quick walk-through of what I did, when starting to overclock the Kaby.

    Hi David OC,

I don't know whats going on with my Control Manager... No anti-virus running. It is just the windows defender, but it is a mess with the HID devices... I will wait on CH word about it. I am using the 4.55a. I will check your walk through. Thanks!

Today I managed to OC the CPU to 5Ghz. Pretty straight forward.

I used this video as reference:

The only step I jumped was the DRAM FREQUENCY change to 3600Mhz. The computer runs like charm.

When I tried the step on second boot, the Computers doesn't boot. So I need some more studying to do it correctly.

    Benchmark wise:

    Before any OC:

    Temperature average of 30C

    After CPU OC

    Temperature average of 33C

Flying DCS from 45C to 65C (just one peak) and average of 48-50C

Test over NTTR F-5E Free flight flying under hoover dam bridge. flying over Boulder City, down the Las Vegas strip at 500kt, over the desert and landing 21 Nellis.

FPS of 43-48 (got 5-8fps more)

Over the strip with mirros and everything maxxed out, at 4k, (most of it) it was 28fps.

    Final rwy 21 Nellis 31-32fps.

So far I will keep that way and study the posts with the DRAM Voltages.

Tks a lot for the tips, guys! Really appreciate it!

  7. Thanks for the info, sydy. This is really going to be an interesting module!

I hope till release, we will also have the nemesis of the tucano in game: the toyota hilux with back-mounted heavy mashine gun!

    Hi twistking,

    You're welcome!

True! I'd love to have some of those "Hiluxes" to "pacify". I had the chance to fly 20min in the real A-29 simulator here in Brazil and had a ball! The plane is amazing and my instructor literally had to pull the plug to make me leave! LOL (also flew as a #7 Backseater with the brazilian Smoke Squadron - amazing experience).

    I just love this bird!!!

Let's wait for some more updates! :pilotfly:

    All the best,

  8. I would highly recommend putting an overclock on your CPU. Running it at 4.2 is like putting around in a ferrari. In games like DCS, single core speed is king, so let that bad boy loose and see the improvement.

I'm running a i5-6600k at 4.3, which is an extremely tame OC, mainly because its air cooled and in a mini-ITX case. You will be impressed at the noticeable improvement with a stable OC.

Your system is badass, and I hope you enjoy it.

    Hi Gunny,

I completely agree! Tomorrow will be the day I will experiment OCing it.

Today was really the first day I flew. Without doing a thing, the rig prove itself pretty robust in both 1.5.6 and 2.1. I managed to fly at 4K with pretty decent FPS only dropping lower than 35 in NTTR over the Las Vegas strip, flying low with mirrors on, but other than that, I am really happy. It worths investing.

The only downpoint was that the CH Control Manager to map the stick/throttle prove itself incompatible with Windowns 10-64 and I had to reprogram everything and learn to fly in direct mode. So far, I am "operational" only in the F-5E. I think it is time to move on and my next upgrade will be a Warthog. Even learning about the upcoming TM F-18 stick, I want the A-10 one.

Tomorrow, I will let you know if I made it.

    All the best,

    Sydy

  9. Great hardware! Good luck with the new rig!

    Hi Andre,

I hope you're all right! I am pretty happy down here.

Today I had the chance to test DCS and the Jetseat.

I had some overtemp problems with the new rig, but after changing the thermal paste, it went smooth. I had to reinstall 1.5.6 (2.1 was ok) and took some time. The CH Control Manager proved itself incompatible with Windows 10-64... Another issue to deal with. Had to reprogram and learn to use the Direct Mode in the Fighter Stick. With all that solve and configured, it was time to test my new sim add on!

The installation was pretty straight forward and I just had to use one adapter for my nobreak (US outlet) and started to test it with the F-5E! It was awesome. The introduction of the micro-vibrations is a new asset in my simulation and brings a higher level of immersion. I am extremely satisfied with it and pricewise it is very fair.

I even took the opportunity to seat my parents so they could experiment a little massage. They found it pretty fun.

Congratulations for your project and I am one of your free advertisers here in Brazil. Remember, the time for brazilian mail is horrible and it took 3 months to get at my home. The good part is that it was not custom taxed. They are entitled to charge anything about USD50, but they didn't. 3 months is a good reference for your upcoming brazilian customers. I am sure you're gonna sell some more here.

I wish you all the best!

  10. WOW, what a temp drop !!!

Report back with your results !

    Hi Guys,

Agree with konovalov. I was kind of suspicious of that and I removed the Kraken carefully and both cooler and cpu had thermal paste well spread on it. So it was weird...

Anyway, with Artic Sylver 5 it solved with that nice temp drop. I had problems with CH fighterstick, CH pro throttle and Ch Pro pedals to configure for DCS. I am used to use it in mapped mode (one button may represent several keys or joy button...) and the program that does it, CH Control Manager, is pretty incompatible with windows 10.

In the end I opted to use the joys in direct mode anyway. Today was the first day I really flew with the F-5 in both 1.5.6 and 2.1 (Nevada). I got pretty decent fps (around 60-140) with most of the stuff maxxed out.

I also installed and tested the gamtrix jetseat. Pretty nice immersion effect as well. Loved it.

Tomorrow it will be time to try to OC it. I got some good guidelines and will go for it.

    I will let you know.

    All the best,

    Sydy

  11. The behavior you are describing sounds normal for CH products.

In mapped mode the CH devices will be presented to Windows and games as "CM Device 1", "CM Device 2". etc. depending on how many devices/axes/etc. you have in the profile.

In Direct Mode they will show up as individual devices with their product names (eg "CH Pro Throttle)".

Check out the ch-hangar.com forums for more help and info.

    Hi SVgamer,

Yep, it just sounds normal, but it is not.

For instance, I can not download a second map later on during the same boot session.

Besides that, windows 10 gets lost and I get NO Joystick in the DCS set up.

I wrote to CH in California as CH-Hangar has no answer as well for the mapped mode.

    All the best and tks,

    Sydy
