  1. And then when I posted the picture I understood what I did wrong. All I had to do was to set Helmet to more % I had it at 0. Thank you the thread can be closed. Sorry for the waste of time. :(
  2. I checked and I have 3 options. Default/Headset/Headphones (Arctis 5) Default and Headphones give no difference and Headset option turns the sound off completely.
  3. Hello, I have not been using my F-16 for some time but I have updated my Open Beta and now I do not have any system sounds just for the F-16C. No sound for AIM9 when I turn it on, no warning about angle of attack etc. and no sound for RWR when being locked, airplane appearing. Not a single beep in the cockpit throught the game. But engine, switches and weapon sounds (brrrt and woosh) work normally. I have deleted all F-16C files and clicked repair which redownloaded over 5GB of data and still the same. Version: DCS/2.5.6.55960 DCS revision: 175957 Windows 8.1 Could anyone tell me if it is the game or is anything I am missing?
  4. This has expired. We need a new instruction for the new Steam layout. I have just bought the Fw190A8 on steam and cannot find the CD-Key anywhere. Could anyone help? EDIT: I re-read everything and I have forgoten that 190A8 is key-less. I have done the transfer. Will check it works.
  5. I don't understand why people are so negative about this plane in particular. Some even saying it's the most unpolished plane of all early access. I do not agree with that. I think it's far better now than 109 when it was released. 109K4 had problems with cockpit that had see through holes, FM that had no forces on control surfaces which made it roll like a 190 and turn on its rudder, its wings snapped off at 8G and had a DM of a tank which still persists albeit not to the same extent. So if you compare it to F16 which is a much more complex aircraft, I don't think F16 is as bad as people say. I'm having fun flying it and I think ED communicated well the fact that it's an Early Access and even showed all available systems at launch and provided description of what is to come. I usually hate Early Access, but this one I knew what I was going into. With that said I think DM should be prioritized for new features, unless it's going to have the same new complex DM as prop planes are supposed to get, then I'm fine with waiting a bit more.
  6. I'm very positively surprised about the FM. It feels like nothing I ever flown before but it seems to be really flybywire. The plane is so easy to start and take into the air its unreal. I think my Mom could fly it. Even the landing seems really easy, obviously that can be contacted to the lack of DM but it's a first impression. Plane can be easily called the easiest to fly in DCS by a large margin. Weapon employment and other combat systems though... I'm having troubles with Radar and submodes of Dogfight mode in the Falcon. I can throw ammram and aim 9x at planes, just not understanding why it works this way. I don't get the elipse in boar mode and I don't get tone. RWR also doesn't work and I always have to put the auxiliary RWR on to see anything. Radar doesn't detect anything and I can't lock. So can't do BVR. Anyone has similar problems?
  7. I have bought it on Steam, but bound the account and I am running Standalone Open Beta.
  8. I have the same bug. It just never loads and it seems to be using 0 of the computer resources. Just stuck on the black screen. It happened after I downloaded the F-16 module not after the update. I have tried the repair.
  9. I also preordered. One of few jets that are truly fascinating to me. The mission variety alone is astounding. Everything from interception, escort, strike missions, CAS, CAP, SEAD, Anti-Shiping, etc. And on top of it a fighter with excellent manoeuvrability and a beautiful Bubble cannopy. AiM-9X and AiM120C. It will be definitely an amazing Co-Op plane!
  10. Is this still the case? If I would buy a MiG21 I could add it to standalone. If I would buy F/A-18 on Steam I would not be able to add it to standalone. Is that correct?
  11. Not true. It was created in 44 and flown in 45 and 500 of them made untill the war ended. Many more were ordered but the war ended. There was no big push for this plane as Allies had strategic air supperiority anyway and P-51D/K were enough. When the war ended the orders have been cancelled. So they were not produced after WW2. I myself do not like the way P-51H looks. They took the perfect shape of the D and started "improving" on it and that just created a less sleek looking design.
  12. The funny part is that when Phill says he can clearly see the B17 at 24km I can't see a single dot on my monitor xD.
  13. Nothing has changed for the human player DM. There is no difference in the DM itself, just additional AI plane behaviour. They just changed the ability to damage the engine and make the pilot bail out after recieving damage for the AI.
  14. I sometimes wonder why people jump to conclusions. It is a module by 3rd party. I think it is typical that some things might not work right away. We had a Spitfire that crashed the game for couple months and nobody said that ED doesn't care. To me, it seems that DCS's engine is quite tricky and definitely old, so it might take longer than usual. Not to mention it seems (from what I understand) that it happened on the Persian map... not in the stable version right?
  15. Yep and even more misconceptions can follow. Most people overestimate the effectivness of high caliber weapons as a whole. They think that with 1 hit from a 20mm cannon should cripple their enemy, to turn him into a barely flyable piece of junk and with 2 or 3 more their target should just be obliterated. While in fact it depends on so many variables (ammo type, angle, velocity, part, structural integrity etc.) that it is very hard to predict wheather or not the target will be destroyed and how many shots you will need to do that. Yes, average numbers exist, but they are treated as the max number of hits that a target can sustain, which creates threads such as "I've hit that plane 7 times and he was still flying, while an average number of shells needed is 5 to destroy the plane, this game is broken". I realy hope we get a new and good, high fiddelity DM in DCS. Currently there is no point to compare anything. :(
  16. Nobody should have over 300 ping. It breaks the game. Even if you live in the US you will have 250 max. I play typically in Darkest Hour on an american server and I have max 128ms ping. It would be preferable that we have US, European and Asian servers so everybody can play with quality ping. But with our sad numbers it is impossible.
  17. Thank you for this opportunity. OK. So I will try to argument my propositions best I can. I wish to propose few planes that will fit into the 1944-45 scenario, having in mind that we will have 6 currently planed planes. I want to make clear that DCS needs additional content that allows to expand possible mission objectives both for MP and SP. 1. Mosquito FB.VI. Fighter-Bomber for the allies. A plane that is both iconic and very effective while beeing very flexible. Both sides require CAS but I think that planes like the Mosquito can be used as a ground pounder but also fit into a fighter role. From bomber interception to bombing of enemy fuel depot. This plane has very broad appeal and can be picked up by Fighter and Bomber enthusiasts alike. 2. Me410B. Fighter-Bomber for the Axis. It would fit the 1944-45. Just as the Mosquito it is a very versitile aircraft that would be both capable of CAS and CAP. I do not want to repeat what I said about Mosquito, but to me it is one of the main German aircraft of the war that needs representation in the game and will provide a very varied array of possible mission objectives for the player. 3. Hawker Typhoon MkIB. A fighter plane that is almost synonymous with Normandy landing. A British equivalent of the American P-47 in the CAS role. Iconic, powerful with focus on the low-level fighting. 4x20mm Hispano cannons and array of bombs and rockets that can make any tank crew jump out of their tank. 4.Fw 190A8. One of the main planes used by the Luftwaffe. It is an iconic plane which also was used in variety of roles. Rugged and with awesome firepower it would prove to be a great interceptor. 4x 20mm cannons, 2x 13mm HMGs and additional gunpods. Firepower and high speed maneuvrability are its main strenghts. One of the most popular German Aircraft of the war. A8 is the most produced version of the Fw-190. 5. P-38L Unique US fighter with many advantages and vices and even more interesting design choices. With dive flaps, hydraulically boosted ailerons and it is the only fighter-plane for the Western Allies with nose mounted weapons. It can be a great escort fighter, ground attack plane and interceptor. Very bold and complex plane that would be both fun and challenging. 6. Bf109G6. The most ubiquitous German fighter plane. With over 8000 produced with different sub-versions it is the main airplane that the allied forces would find over European Sky in 1944. It would be fairly easy to convert the current K4 model and create a new module that would fit the Normandy setting with tons of additional equipment, such as: Gun Pods MG151 and Mk108, bombs, 210mm rockets and /U4 conversion that allows for the same Mk108 to be placed in the nose like in the K4 model. 7. Hs129 Not very many of those planes were available but it is definitely a unique CAS plane and that would be the most specialised ground attack airplane with with many possible attachments. Mk103 cannons and 75mm semi-automatic cannon and lots of armor and pilot protection. Tank-buster that might be interesting to a very big community of DCS A-10C players. ----------------------------------------- Summary: When creating this list I was trying to put emphasis on the theatre, time period and versitility, keeping in mind the current ED community. With our current list of 6 airplanes focused so much on the Air-Superiority aspect a big part of the conflict and possible mission objectives is omitted. I think that CAS planes with versitility should be the next priority for ED. Planes that I have selected would fit into the current map and would have lots of potential to be seen in other theatres of war or in an extension of our current Normandy theatre (France, Belgium, Germany, Holand etc.) Thanks for the oportunity Nineline. I hope this can help ED with their future ideas.:smartass: PS. Can't wait for the new P-51D Model. I realy hope for P-51D10 that would fit into the above list.:pilotfly:
  18. Emergency rich is a good setting to use at low altitude dogfighting and pursuit. You can lower your temps with that. But as Campbell says it is not used for any normal operation. I personally use it usually when flying with 67'hg WEP. Then it allows for more sustained maneuvering without overheating as much and is obviously an advantage during chases. You can close your radiator and with enough speed (mostly built up from a dive) you can go up to 603kph at SL. That seems little, but it is a difference between beeing able to catch someone and beeing completely unable.
  19. Maybe when 2.5 comes out we can see some progress? Something. Pls. It is the main thing that keeps me away from DCS.
  20. The B&Z is quite simple but requires patience and selfcontrol. Before I start I want to make it clear that DCS is not a perfect game for such attacks due to external sounds beeing so loud that the enemy can hear you approaching pretty easily and especially with Diveplane's mod that allows a person to hear a plane comming from 2nm away. Anyway. The B&Z approach is pretty straight forward, you want to catch your target when it is below you and preferably way slower. You have to remember that just because a plane is below you that doesn't mean it is low on energy When setting up for an approach you should remember that you do not want to be seen. You want to come from the sun or cloud and know target's energy estimate. You have to remember that you will have a very short shooting window when attacking and you preferably want your enemy to not be able to react to your attack. In DCS, again, it is very hard due to the limitations of the Damage model, most of your hits do next nothing (smoke is not an indication of critical damage, just HP of a module went down). 1100ft is the convergence on the Mustang, that's around 330m. Learn to use the K-14 for the perfect gun solutions. You do not want to attack from perfect level 6 o'clock. You want to be a bit above, so that the target is presenting a better profile or you want to dive below your target to enter his blind spot. When you shoot the target and it doesn't go down, you have to climb back up to set up for another attack, but do not immediately point your nose up. Watch his reaction and try to get an angle that allows for the quickest and least energy intensive maneuvering. Separation is a very important part of any B&Z approach. In a heavy plane and especially against monsters like the K4 which can climb at 24m/s it is a key to survival When you hit your target and it doesn't go down in flames, watch its nose. If he turns into you and the angle is too steep, abort your attack and point your nose away from him, even continue the dive for a bit, try to hide under his wing or any other blind spot and when you are about 1.5km away start a shallow climb and preferably chandelle or immelman to position above the target. You do not want him to follow you. If you can tell that he is following you and that he has low energy you can try to lure him into a hammerhead reversal, but that is risky and needs a lot of experience. You have to try to make your movment fluid and very easy. You do not want to do any high-G pullouts. That kills your energy and allows the bandit to cut into your vertical turn. The hardest part comes here. If you attack the target and he can see you and you do not have that 200kph speed advantage, you want to run away. The hardest part is that you have to refuse to engage in a dogfight, you have to retreat and make him leave you alone. But do not dive away steeply. In a Mustang you are 5mph faster than the 109 and about 5mph slower than the 190D9 in level flight. So you want to prolong that dive as much as possible so that you fly close to 505mph and gain separation. Watch your ball and trim your rudder and ailerons. With a new sound system and DM the B&Z tactic will be a lot better. For now try to remember to close your throttle when approaching your enemy and use a bit steeper angles with 0% RPM so that you can silently approach your enemy. It is not ideal, but you have to do it so that he will not react to you. :joystick:
  21. Because there would be outrage and claims of bias for days and you would see 0 people flying German planes. :pilotfly: It is one click in the editor.
