  1. Use it if you need the manifold pressure. It definitely nets more airspeed or altitude if you need to zoom climb, that way the MP wont fall off a few thousand feet up with just the supercharger.
  2. Great landing, the new gear definitely looks much more realistic on touchdown
  3. Version 2.9.4.53549.... Still having the same Engine Degraded Failure randomly with WEP usage on the P-47D. One Track the engine degraded under 5 mins of Water Injection. The other track, the engine lasted the full 5 mins, then at 1 hour and 3 mins into the flight at max continuous the Engine Degraded with no excess temps or stresses. This mirrors the randomness of the pre patch behavior. Maybe these tracks will help. New Patch under 5 mins WEP Degraded.trk New Patch 1 hour 3 mins WEP Degraded.trk
  4. Well that's kinda the reason I started this thread and asked in the first place if we were getting any updates this next patch...I'm guessing sometime this spring there will be a patch since they merged OB and Stable. A monthly cycle for fixes and whatnot. The jury is still out on the the baseline question that I asked. I don't expect a list or anything just a yes or no if we are going to see any updates. Without the dooming and glooming. I was just trying to decide where to spend my limited time for simming. Hey, if its a "sideshow" like Skewgear says then well, I can wait and buy the Hellcat or whatever comes next on sale... when the sideshow fills out more. It's not a big deal, just the silence on the WWII is a bit deafening and there are some serious issues with some of the modules that could use some care before pushing out the new toys IMHO. Not even to mention the asset pack. I just would hate it to be such a long cycle on these things since I love the WWII side of DCS, I spend 99% of my time on DCS with warbirds, but I have no say in what ED does. Just an aside though, since IL2 was mentioned above, this would be the time I would think to flesh out the Western European stuff. IL2 has seemingly hit a wall with the current iteration and are developing a new game now which won't be ready for a long time. It would be easy to capture extra revenue, at least from a pure business marketing perspective, of bored Il2 players that are waiting for the new iteration. IL2 is fun gameplay wise on multiplayer but DCS is head and shoulders above it in systems,FM, graphics, etc. At least from the cheap seats, DCS is the only title in town with room to grow so to speak for the next year or two in WWII and could hopefully jump on that opportunity...if they chose to do so.
  5. Thanks for the tip and fix, now ED just needs to make it official!
  6. I'd like to not get in the weeds about beta testers, multiplayer servers, and general losing hope in ED. I was simply asking about the possibility of any WWII updates this spring update to address some of the current issues. Since skewgear mentioned the P47 landing gear issue being low priority and being able to raise the issue with ED, it apparently can be fixed by one digit on one line of code in the Lua file that RUNEofORM mentioned in multiple P47 landing gear threads. I'm certainly far from being a game developer in my day job but it seems like the 'small team' that @NineLine has mentioned could have fixed long ago on the way to their lunch break. If there is a active WWII team, what would 9 missles or twenty jets have to do with an unrelated dedicated team that is tasked with WWII? It would be nice not to have to perform a work around the average player isn't going to know about and also not have to mod files to break integrity check to play on Project Overlord server. It's a bit of a twist to say one module with one low priority problem vs dcs jets, for reference see any and all of the bug sections in the WWII modules. Heck the p47 alone has multiple long standing issues that need to be worked out. I bias towards mentioning it since I fly it the most. Universal things like working pitot heat would be nice to have so, high altitudes don't render airspeed indicators frozen on allied and axis warbirds, etc. I'd just like to know if any changes are going to had for the WWII community in the next patch since we have unified versions or wait another cycle.
  7. Just curious to hear if we can expect any fixes for stuff on the WWII side of dcs in the next update? Whatever the date its slated for, hopefully in the not so distant springtime future. Things such undercarriage updates for the update on the mossie, the p47 repair bug, wep usage, multiple texture and 3d model issues on the p47, etc among the myriad of issues that have been around for a lot of the warbirds. If nothing to share, it would be great to hear what work has been done towards really any of the bug sections on the WWII modules overall. Any news on the damage models, flight models et all on the AI aircraft? WWII asset pack? Thanks, it always seems newsletters are pretty light on the warbirds from ED. I know there are a couple 3rd party props coming soon, but really no theater appropriate adversaries for them...some updates to the current WWII lineup would definitely gin up more enthusiasm, at least in my opinion, to know stuff is happening and maybe get peak at what is happening.
  8. This...not to mention upgraded canopy reflections like the mustang has among others and a fix for the gear breaking on repair. Still my favorite module by a longshot online and offline, but it could definitely see some love for some of the issues
  9. I don't think pitot heat works on any of the warbirds currently. I get it on multiple aircraft and even when in clear air where icing isn't present. I don't think you did anything wrong, just the modelling has been lacking there for a long time.
  10. Engine Degraded 5 mins wep followed by max continuous then max contiuous 12 minutes degraded.trk
  11. Engine Degraded 5 mins wep followed by max continuous 17 minutes degraded.trk
  12. @NineLine Hate to bump my own thread....Any chance you could take a look and see what might be happening that causes the 'Engine Degraded' Failure on these tracks? Should only take ~4mins
  13. My favorite bird also, it has brought me back home multiple times on Project Overlord that I doubt a p51 would have survived a couple of times over.
  14. Sounds kinda like 'engine degraded' failure. If you have track that would help narrow down what the cause is/was.
  15. I thought about it and decided to try a different approach to testing... This time I took the first track I added that failed roughly 3.5 minutes in and tried to keep the engine from dying by running the oil and turbo shutters full open with WEP usage. The result was the same failure at roughly the same time and not getting the advertised 5 mins of WEP usage from the engine before it becomes 'degraded.' This appears to indicate that it is not related to temperature in the engine or turbo but something else. I'll attach a video as well. I would like to hear from anyone who downloads the track/tracks to see if they experience the same issue on replay or taking control of it...particularly any devs that can see what is going on with the damage model. Failure occurs 3:27 mark for reference. Engine Degraded oil and intercooler full shutters full open 2.trk
  16. Engine Degraded no active pause.trk Roughly around 3 and a half mins no active pause and I get engine degraded. I also can get the engine to run the full the 5 minutes without getting the engine degraded failure, but I have to run full open on the oil shutters using WEP. This puts the needle usually at the bottom or slightly below the green arc on the gauge. The problem I am having is, I am getting this failure when the temperatures are in the green arcs. I could see if I was exceeding a limitation or temp having a failure but not when the engine should be in it's nominal operating range. It's straight and level flying no hard maneuvers or climbs so that's what is puzzling to me. Maybe one of the devs that have access to the x-ray damage viewer could at least take a look and see what exactly is failing to cause "Engine Degraded" since that's all I can see on the debriefs.
  17. Engine Degraded 3 min WEP degraded 50 mins later.trk Here is a more extreme track. This is the longest I tested and had the "engine degraded." I used 3 mins at wep and then reduced to max economical cruise 32/2250 and the engine was stable for ~47 mins and died from "engine degraded." This is usually how it happens to me. After a fight and brief WEP usage I usually lose the engine headed back to base or patrolling later on. If I'm online, I lose the engine, and inevitably on the Project Overlord server I get bounced with no engine. Maybe this is an extra data point that could be useful in tracking down what is going on. Temperatures remained in the green the arcs the entire flight. One interesting note is the oil temperature dipped and rose slightly mid way through the test but the shutters were not moved except the start of the mission. Since a constant speed/altitude is observed with active pause, I don't know why the engine would vary temperatures at all if nothing was changed after cruise power was set. Just for reference it's still the same caucus instant action free flight mission...I do not have any mods installed except some custom cockpits through the saved games folder and I have random failures disabled in the options.
  18. Yeah in the D-30 and 40 just a button to engage the WEP. Well to keep the temp in the green I usually don't have to open the coolers fully either but that's when I get the issue with the Engine Degraded after I use WEP. Like I say if I leave them full open for whatever reason I have less of a chance of the engine failing me 20+ mins later cruising around. if I don't...well the video I posted shows what happens. I edited one of the files that has the dash textures and put in saved games and load a custom cockpit through the game options. There are easier ways but this way it doesn't break integrity check online.
  19. The Bug: After engaging WEP I get a sudden engine surge of RPM followed by an uncontrolled rise in oil temperature corresponding with the failure "Engine Degraded." Sometimes under the documented 5 minute WEP usage limit, sometimes 38 minutes later with cruise power set for no apparent reason. Both cases with all temps in acceptable ranges. This occurs in air starts and cold starts after properly warming up. Online and Offline it occurs. Test Method: The most repeatable test I can come up with is by use of active pause to quickly test different variables. I spawn let the needles stabilize add power. This happens without active pause as well but this way seems more stable for a video. I used the Caucus map freeflight mission since it starts at the top of the hour and makes timing easier with the ingame clock. I am attaching a video of roughly 3 mins in length of a failure approximately occurring 3:04. The same track used to record the video will be attached as well. The video and track below show temperatures in the the green arcs and WEP usage and failure around the 3:04 mark in the video. I have played the track twice on my system and plays out the same way everytime. There was very little input so I hope the active pause does not corrupt the track. I have longer ones to document failures randomly later on but I felt the shorter the better most likely. I have tested this down to two causes repeatedly: in the green arc, slightly higher than minimum, but well below the redline oil temperatures and over the redline turbo temps. This results in either engine degraded or engine overheat failure, seemingly the same thing and interchangeable. The really puzzling part is that it is very random. I can abuse the engine for 15 mins WEP sometimes and fly until the fuel runs out or the engine will die sometime from 0 to 38 minutes after setting a cruise or low power setting for no apparent reason. At times like this I won't even get 5 mins of WEP out of the engine before I get an "Engine Degraded" Failure. Another finding, setting oil shutter to full open seems to save the engine. 1 out of 4 times I left the shutter open did I have an engine degraded after 33 minutes of cruise power and appropriate temperatures for the engine, usually after closing the shutters to keep the temperature from going too low is when the failure occurs. I'm not sure that over cooling damage is modelled for the P-47. I have many hours in DCS on it and can not recall a time that it has happened. The only downside to leaving the shutters open in the drag penalty. @NineLine @Yo-Yo Engine Degraded test 3 min death.trk
  20. Here another bump, would love to get the Jug looked at by the devs again.
  21. Seems like the times I've done that, at least on the Normandy 2 map, it takes your water for WEP away and doesn't refill the tank. Just an FYI if you are gonna need a little extra power.
  22. To echo what's been said its a bit of a mystery how the engine will seemingly die from a little bit of Water Injection. I would love to know what "Engine Degraded" is caused by. That's the number one cause of engine failure I run into. It rarely seems to happen during a fight but usually happens 3/4ths of the way back to base after everything has calmed down and I'm at a low power cruise setting for fuel economy for 5 or 10 mins with all the gauges in the green. I get the sudden surge followed by the rapidly rising oil temp to a soon to be dead engine. Sometimes I can just go max throttle and 75in's running away and use all the water in the tank and have no problems though, it's just so random...the only link I've found though is the water injection. If I don't use it, I've never had the "Engine Degraded" failure. @NineLine Added a track to illustrate that it happens out of nowhere after combat just crusing around. Its a long track Engine Degraded December 11 2023.trk
  23. Bug is still present it seems in the latest open beta release. Still damaging the landing gear on repair.
  24. Awesome thanks for the tip! Never thought about the weight being the issue. It's a really annoying bug.
