  1. i bet when the f14 releases we both will break down and buy it too. me out of nostalgia more than anything :)
  2. my landings are decent. brought an a10 home once with 1 engine and 1.5 wings and no hydraulics once long ago. but everything is rusty after coming back so i am practicing that skill too. thanks everyone for the suggestions. last few days i have been practicing with ground missions in the a10. tonight i think i will try air refeuling my mirage since its speed will be more comparable to the f18.
  3. I am so sad we lost such a great member of the community. Eric "Gospadin" Mudama always looked for where there was something others needed and he could help them or fix it. Eric saw many pilots asking Razbam to release an English cockpit for their Mirage module and rather than complaining on the forums he took it upon himself to create an English cockpit mod himself. Eric gave this English cockpit mod to the community for free asking for nothing in return. Eric also continued to support the mod for I think it was like 2+ years while the community waited for Razbam to release their promised Official English cockpit. Members like Eric "Gospadin" are the kind of people that make our community great . I think it would be an awesome gesture of respect from Razbam to Eric "Gospadin" if Razbam were to accelerate creating the official English cockpit for the Mirage. Then somewhere in the English cockpit perhaps scratch his name as a tribute to the selflessness he showed to the Mirage community by creating his English cockpit mod which helped the English Mirage drivers and Razbam. RIP Eric "Gospadin". You will be missed but not forgotten and hopefully immortalized if Razbam uses my tribute idea.
  4. Thanks for this tip. You're right I definitely could use some work in both of these areas.
  5. Thank you all for the great tips. I especially appreciate the warm welcome to the FA-18 club. I hadn't thought about the Harrier having similar systems to the FA-18. I'd don't currently own the harrier so do you think it would be worth it to purchase the harrier just to be able to practice for the FA-18? Or is the harrier still not complete enough to be useful as a training platform for the FA-18? I think I might be better off just using the modules I already own to practice since the FA-18 will likely be released pretty soon. I do currently own FC3, the A10C, Mirage, and all the helicopters except the Gazelle. So with my current stable of aircraft do you think I could practice with those effectively without having to purchase the Harrier module?
  6. So I have been playing DCS for a few years now and own a bunch of modules and FC3. I haven't played the game except maybe once or twice in the last year so i am super rusty (Not to mention i was always better with heli's back then anyway). I am definitely going to be hard to pull away from DCS when FA-18 is released. I had a question for any of the veterans who have taken an extended leave from DCS and then came back to it like I am now. How would you suggest i jump back into the game to get the jitters back out so i am ready day 1 for the f-18? Do you think its best to play solo or multiplayer? Do you think i should start back by re-acquainting myself with the A-10 first since the F-18 will have some similar ground ordinance and targeting system capabilities? Or would i be better off concentrating on FC3 aircraft since they are much simpler, although much less capable for the ground game. Once the F-18 drops i will mainly fly it in ground attack roles so what strategy would you guys suggest for me to get my feet back wet with DCS to prepare for the F-18. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
  7. i think auntystatic is more referring to the way amalahama pointed out the problems he saw. there is criticism and constructive criticism. his saying he doesnt understand how something so basic is still not fixed sure doesnt sound very constructive to me either. there is nothing wrong with reporting issues provided it is done respectfully. i am sure we have all heard that sometimes its not what you say but how you say it.
  8. just a suggestion. ED should be releasing the f18 module this year and that would make for a very cool pit project. you could even start the pit before the module is released. oh and as far as the KA50 FM acuuracy is concerned. from what i understand ED built this module originally for their military flight sim side of the company and this was used to train actual ka50 pilots. So the FM is as accurate as you can get since it was approved for training actual ka50 pilots. now of course the copy we have for the entertainment side of the company has some changes for not divulging classified info but i dont think the FM had any modifications from the military sim version.
  9. i have been considering a gazelle purchase but after reading all of these FM issues and seeing the above vid now i think i will wait. in that vid the gazelle should have gone into VRS and crashed. this is a fundamental characteristic of a helicopters FM and with out this feature the gazelle to me is not a sim of the aircraft yet. i will wait until it is. i have seen poly do some cool things with their module like multi-crew so i am hoping they can fix the FM
  10. I have read many threads trying to find the answer to my question and see that even though it was mentioned in the manual, we will not be getting an exocet or the armat missiles. I cant find anything in the forums about the Martel AS 37 missile mentioned in the mirage manual and whether or not it will be released for our mirage 2000. I hope that this question has not been already answered and i just missed it but can anyone tell me if we are going to get this missile or has any decision been made about it at this point? From the little bit of info i can find online it seems that this missile could be and was launched from our mirage version since it is not dependent on having a later version of the radar than we currently have. I just bought the mirage a few weeks ago and think that even though the AS 37 was very limited compared to later versions of arms (more comparable to the shrike but able to be programmed for radar type on the ground) it would at least give us a SEAD capability. As far as how to solve the issue of having to program what type of radar it homed in on being done on the ground. i think the solution to this would be to have lets say AS 37 model A through C or whatever number of them would be appropriate. we would select what type of radar we want them to hunt for and we would have to pick that when arming the plane. Having a few different versions would not require anything other than changing what type of sam radar it would target in its programming. Thanks to anyone that can answer my question and thanks to Razbam for a great plane.
  11. yep i know but was letting an admin know as soon as poss so its not an issue tomorrow
  12. somehow i was already registered in the blue side for round 8 or atleast it seems that way. I submitted an app for red side for round 8 and it looks like both now have been subb'd. If thats the case and it is my error i really apologize for giving someone extra work fixing it as i want to be on red side for round 8 please not both even though that would make spying easier LOL. thanks for your help
  13. I AGREE CRIBOB please dont let the minority who think they are "entitled" to anything from the buddyspiike team or yourself make you feel your hard work and dedication are unappreciated by the rest of us. i can only imagine the work and time you have put into the SR project and the Blueflag event. I am sure i dont have to tell you it is unique in our community which is why you created it in the first place. Hell if it were easy Eagle Dynamics would have done this themselves long ago. I realize that some of the fools posting things here can seem like you have put a ton of work into something for nothing. but that couldnt be further from the truth. You and the entire team have made and continue to make the Buddyspike BlueFlag server the premier place to play DCS while in multiplayer. Unfortunately cribob our society has raised people for far too long giving them the feeling of entitlement. It started when they ALL got trophies rather than just the winner/winning team. Unfortunately many of these children have now "grown up" and still feel someone owes them something for them simply participating and this issue is exactly no different. No matter how much these people are given they think they are entitled to even more. as i said in my first post on this they are making demands and threatening "taking their bawl and goin home" if they dont get their way rather than just asking how they can help you with your efforts. You dont owe them or quite frankly ANY of us ANYTHING. the opposite is the truth of it. WE OWE YOU!!! first our thanks for your efforts and time. Second we owe you for your graciousness when asking for the input of the community to make something better that you did for us. If any of them decide not to use your program they are missing out on making the game better for themselves and if they "leave out of principle" then they likely wouldnt have contributed much to their team (and are therefore no loss anyway)if they are unwilling to even contribute helping you to make the BlueFlag event better. Please dont let the minority here influence you going forward. This is YOUR project YOUR time and YOUR decision to require/not require, enforce/ not enforce, continue/ not continue. No matter what decisions you make let me say i stand right behind you. I really hope that you do continue and i am sure i am not alone in this (they may not all have said it but there are tons who appreciate and thank you for your dedication/work and are looking forward to what you do next). there are always going to be those that will try and bring you or the project down whether it be out of jealousy or the "entitlement" mentality so just overlook those posts and move on to those of us thanking you for your awesome work and offering help rather than vitriol. Keep up the good work buddy and i say the same to the rest of the Buddyspike team. you all are doing great things for DCS. I also meant it when i said in my first post if there is ANYTHING I can do to help please send me a private message.
  14. first i want to say SR is awesome. now as far as whether or not the OWNER of the server can enforce use of SR as the preferred in-game comms this would be nothing new. for those of us that play Arma 3 many multiplayer servers require those that are flying aircraft to be on Teamspeak or they are booted and banned from the PUBLIC server. All of you that are saying you would boycott the server over the "principle" of it or "how could it be enforced?" are you serious? you need to remember that the OWNER of the server is providing you a place to play a game at NO MONETARY COST to you. so if they ask that we all use any method of communication they want, if its even cup and string, i think its a really small price to pay considering the amount of time and real money the server OWNERS are giving to us, the community. I also quite frankly find it insulting that you think you are entitled to ANYTHING from the server OWNERS to include even allowing you to connect to THEIR server and use THEIR bandwidth.Remember this whole blue flag server is a gift not a right. so i think those of you that are not asking how you can help the server OWNER more, rather than whining about them considering saying SR is the PREFERRED comm method and/or even required for those wanting to be GCI, should perhaps find another server to play on (there are plenty that dont require ANY comms out there where you will be welcome in the silence). The funny thing is because of the simplicity and power of SR as well as its continued development i think it wont be long before it becomes the preferred comms for pretty much ALL public DCS multiplayer servers and therefore will be adopted by most of those today who are making such a fuss over a suggestion that would only make things better and more immersive for this game as a whole and Blueflag specifically. I bought DCS for its realism and this SR program only furthers that realism where Teamspeak retracts from it. i also suspect many want to fly on the Blueflag server due to the increased realism it adds to multiplayer. so using SR should be viewed by them as furthering the fidelity of the Blueflag experience rather than a negative. So I have to say if the owners of blueflag want to require use of SR i am happy to comply and also more than happy to ask them HOW CAN I HELP YOU? to support other players having tech difficulties installing or using SR. feel free to send me a PM if there is anything i can do to help support your efforts with SR and/or Blueflag
  15. Towsim, first thanks for all your hard work on Aries. I was wondering if there was any update you could give the community on the status of making Aries a standalone system not requiring teamspeak as you had indicated was being developed in the past? I cant wait for this and havent seen any status updates for quite a while so i thought i would ask as I know this would fundamentally change how DCS multiplayer is played and will immediately bring the kind of immersion BMS fliers get with its radio system. thanks again
  16. if you are using facetracknoir it can use trackir drivers. you just have to set it to only use that driver in the settings rather than freetrack and maybe see if that fixes the issue. i use this and will report back if i have any problems after setting it to use trackir drivers only. hope this helps
  17. this worries me about future map dlc's since it could potentially halt any other dev's making map dlc. is the problem of protection one that would affect other developers map dlc? or is the problem specifically caused by the nature of starways project being not really a 'new' map but rather enhancement to the existing map or does lack of protection affect all map dlc (new maps like leatherneck has planned) if they were ready for release today? even if the issue is limited to this project for the reason i mentioned being enhancing existing maps will ED be making an effort to change game code so future 'map enhancement' projects like starways can be developed and protected?? the answers to these questions are quite important as it could lead to much less content for the game. can wags or someone in the know answer my question as i am sure other potential dev's would like to know as much as us players do.
  18. cant wait to fly with a garmin this news of the Garmin GNS 430 is awesome. for those like me that have never used one, i linked below a training video from garmin so we can all be ready for when it is added to dcs. [ame] [/ame]
  19. so does this latest version supoport all the new features you mentioned in your last status update post. primarily i am wondering is this a standalone system now not needing teamspeak like you were saying? *EDIT* ohh i got so excited about you announcing a new release i didnt realize the features i am asking about you said were for version 2.0 and this release isnt quite there yet. So i answered my own question. thanks and really looking forward to 2.0 it will be a game changer for DCS literally. You should after 2.0 release make it donationware at the very minimum as i would certainly pay a reasonable amount for what you described and i dont think i am alone. again thanks for all your hard work looking forward to 2.0
  20. i would like to register for round 5 or 6 if 5 is over before i get approved please blufor lonewolf callsign-- weeds preferred aircraft in order of preference-- ka50, uh-1, mi8, a10c, f15 thanks again
  21. i use ftnoir and not sure what exactly happened during your setup but in dcs it shows up as Track Ir for me and i set it in dcs the same way someone would who has actual track IR (and it works perfectly). The fact that you have some virtual joystick showing up tells me that something is not installed/setup correctly. do you have software that allows you to set up macros or something? That sounds like what you may be seeing in dcs NOT facetracknoir. also since you are setting up the wrong thing in dcs for view would be why its not working correctly. Try changing the settings for the column labeled as Track IR in DCS since that is actually what is controlling facetracknoir. After that then remove any of the keybindings you did in the virtual joystick column unless you are purposely wanting to use it for something. but definitely atleast remove any of the binding for the DCS view settings to the virtual joystick driver column.
  22. with the black shark KA-50 i would tend to agree that you can "get by" with twist throttle but i would strongly disagree with that for both the huey UH1 and the MI8. Both of those aircraft require constant adjustments to the rudder. The KA-50 does not since it is a coaxial heli and due to that it actually stabilizes the rudder for you without you really having to do a thing.Mostly the only time you need to use the rudder on a ka-50 is for turns. Both the UH1 and MI8 require constant rudder adjustment since they have only a single main rotor blade and will therefore spin in a circle if you don't apply rudder. With just a twist rudder in a UH1 or MI8 your hand will get very tired of having to constantly keep the joystick twisted just to maintain forward flight without using the trimmer and setting it to also trim the rudder. I own all 3 of these modules and can easily say twist for anything other than the KA-50 will not be pleasurable flying.
  23. my guess WARNING long post ahead my guess for one of the aircraft would be the F-5N. the reasons are 1 the f-5 was used and is still used (now the f-5N) by the agressors force squadron for training pilots in the us navy and would be what a F-14 pilot would likely train against. The agressors squadron is part of the Top Gun school. 2. the agressors force squadron was once based at nellis which we soon will fly over in edge 2.0 3. I think specifically leatherneck will give us the F-5N since it was upgraded with the AN/APG-69 radar that has ground capability which just also happens to be a system ED is working on for the f-18 and edge. 4. all of the other clues we have pointing to an f-5. So thats my guess for 1 of the aircraft and i think it will be the f-5n variant which also by the way is still in use as an agressor squadron aircraft and is slated to be replaced at the end of this year with something else. the other clue of duck leads me to believe the other plane will be a WW2 aircraft since that era is the only one with planes referred to as "Duck" some links and excerpts below supporting my theories http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_F-5 "Operational history" "The F-5 was also adopted as an opposing forces (OPFOR) "aggressor" for dissimilar training role because of its small size and performance similarities to the Soviet MiG-21. In realistic trials at Nellis AFB in 1977, the F-14 reportedly scored slightly better than a 2:1 kill ratio against the simpler F-5, while the F-15 scored slightly less" "The U.S. Navy used the F-5E extensively at the Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) when it was located at NAS Miramar, California." "The U.S. Navy F-5 fleet continues to be modernized with 36 low-hour F-5E/Fs purchased from Switzerland in 2006. These were updated as F-5N/Fs with modernized avionics and other improved systems. Currently, the only U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps units flying the F-5 are VFC-13 at NAS Fallon, Nevada,..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/APG-69 "Emerson Electric's AN/APG-69 is an X band coherent pulse doppler radar originally designed for the F-20 Tigershark aircraft. Northrop skipped over the APG-69 in favor of the General Electric AN/APG-67 for the F-20 project, but the APG-69 was used by a number of other F-5 operators,..." "Unlike Emerson's earlier radars, the APG-69 offered a complete suite of air-to-air and air-to-ground modes. The air-to-air modes included velocity search for long-range wide-angle searches, track-while-scan, single target track and dogfight modes that locked onto the closest target. The APG-69 was capable of guiding the AIM-7 Sparrow missile, making it the first of Emerson's offerings to reach production with beyond visual range capability. The air-to-ground modes included Doppler-Beam Sharpening mapping, moving target search and track, and sea-surface-search modes." last link for planes name duck... http://www.uswarplanes.net/aircraftnames.html whew... sorry for the long post but i thought would be helpful to paste the excerpts so you didnt have to follow links and read the whole pages for my theories
  24. i am just ready and excited for 2.0 and haave no problems with having to pay for Nevada map since i wasn't an a10 beta buyer. i will purchase Nevada as soon as 2.0 drops to us in alpha. :) TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE ED
  25. from my limited testing the issues with this missle in ver 1.27 have now been corrected in 1.28 beta. again my testing has benn limited but i have successfully engaged and destroyed targets at max range with the 25ml in 1.28 which would have failed in 1.27. plan to test more and will report back if in this thread if i find my observation is flawed. so far so good though.
