I wouldn't consider myself an amazing PvP pilot, but I've flown the MiG-29 online a fair bit so this is my opinion in regards to the MiG-29 The best thing about the R-77 is that you can carry them alongside R-27s, which means you have a much heavier long-range punch then allowed. The 77s provide a credible long range threat, which means that if ignored it can actually kill an oncoming F-15, but more likely then not they will go defensive, which is when I go full AB and close for a kill. If I can't shoot them down quickly them the fight is basically over and I run away, there is no way a MiG-29 will be able to stand up to the sheer amount of fuel/missiles the F-15 has and you really need to kill them while they are defensive in order to win. This doesn't always work and if the F-15s are working together then it doesn't stand too much of a chance. Final word of caution, I wouldn't recommend the R-77 as the primary attack missile, only because it does seem fairly easy to evade. I primarily use it to force them on the defensive, and use other missiles (even short-range AA) to kill them.

The black textures on pylons 3-4 occur with every drop tank, and is not exclusive to the Finnish livery.

What weapons do you have loaded?

Yeah, the control bindings are misleading. You want the Drop SPRD switch, which I'd under a red cover the the right of the throttle. You'll have to hold it because there is a slight delay until it fires.

As far as a mad dash for weapons, I find you must absolutely set up weapons before hand, so you aren't messing with switches while you are concentrating on getting a good angle. I had this problem when fighting some L-39s, as soon as I got in the habit of setting up the weapon before starting an attack it does become easier. I suppose missiles to guns would be easier, but it is still a switch flips to get the proper pipper set up, which could cost you a killing shot.

I've noticed on the GVIAP skin that the outer pylons are black, at least when selecting 490l tanks.

Right, but making all these claims without having citable references does make your argument look fairly weak. Also "evidence" because you still haven't been citing your references.

I've been messing around with the Dora, while it's pretty fun I'm finding practicing fighting against the AI pretty weird, I suppose I'm not getting what I'm suppose to be doing when using the Fw-190. I'm trying to energy fight, but actually tracking and getting to the shooting position is just pretty awkward, especially with the reticle hovering over the front bar, but that's not actually my complaint. Currently I'm becoming victim of trick shots by AI P-51s, all these shots are actually hitting me forward of the cockpit and disabling the fuel gauge and the EZ42. I'd put it down to luck but it's happened 4 times now, and the best part was a 1500m trick shot, landing one round into the fuel gauge/EZ-42. I get the principle that is energy fighting, and this is the first plane in DCS that I'm really struggling to get a grip on, but are their any tips for AI fighting? Players seem to be a bit easier, but yeah. 1500m shot.trk

I hope you aren't confusing me with anyone else, as I have just entered the discussion, so calling me out on supposed defensiveness is probably a bit of a reach. Secondly, it is a forgone conclusion that the sight will get obscured under certain conditions, the argument (at least as I have read it) is that the forward bar is in the way of thr bottom of the sight, which may make it more difficult to achieve certain deflection shots. I'm actually quite shocked at the level of hostility that had been showed to me while entering this discussion, perhaps it would be best if I don't engage in it until everyone had calmed down.

Beside the hostile response, I don't think that it's even a factor in this discussion, as it's a different plane all together.

This is actually mega disappointing, seeing as I am pretty offended by instances of the hammer and sickle in-game. As someone who is descendant from people who were persecuted in Poland by the Soviets, it really does make me feel sick every time I see the hammer + sickle. My family and I see it as a symbol of great evil and hardship, but it seems like that symbol is okay.

Right now it's almost not worth putting yourself up against MiG-15s until they are in a better state. It's pretty interesting to also note that they are laser accurate even though they lack radar (or gyro) gunsights.

Yeah, I can hit them alright but it's pretty hard. Also they can seemingly airbrake on a dime and pull up and gain a ton of altitude as if they were caught in a still updraught. Pretty frustrating to get behind one only for it to airbrake/engage antigrav drive.

I think you misunderstand, I have no issue with activation, as it's always been on ED's end. The issue is that the .exe doesn't recognise the version of DCS in the STeam library. In any case, I'm getting the external version so it'll be ok

But I'm confused, the files which it uses are exactly the same. Perhaps their should be a disclaimer that the Steam and ED installations are incompatible, even if the games are the exact same version.

I actually have a steam installation, so I don't have an auto-updater. Is there a file or something which the .exe parses to verify a correct version, or anyway to bypass it?

I have this problem too, except I can verify I am in the correct version but it fails to recognise it.

I've been seeing this too. Currently it seems the AI Sabres have difficulty aquiring targets. They do shoot but it doesn't seem very effective.

I can't seem to be able to adjust salvo quantity, is this a bug for the Su-27 cockpit in general?

How will the cutting of key activation on Steam affect people who want to get the Mig-21 DVD? My DCS is in Steam so now I'm worried that if I pick up the DVD (or DVS MiG21 at all) I won't be able to activate it or use it.

Extremely coincidental that ED cuts Steam activation from their online store after announcing a sale. I'm wondering if roping people in with a lower price and then cutting Steam was an underhanded business tactic. I don't think it's conducive to building a larger community and now I will not be buying DCS P51 or Huey because it is full price on Steam.
