Well kingneptune, you'll be happy to know - it did happen! Not in an Hog tho' - in a tiny little A4 Skyhawk. Place: El Toro MCAS (not there anymore:() Time: oh, about 25 years ago. One of the maintainers who had high aspirations to go to flight training found out that his dreams wouldn't come true, so... on one sunny California day he decided to make it happen:pilotfly: He took a little Skyhawk for a spin... not too far, just flew around, landed and was escorted to a "career change" ceremony. Don't ask me how he was able to start, get to active and so forth... It did happen! He was an aviation fanatic and spent a lot of time in a sim. (A4 I imagine)

I'd like a piece of string...
crusty1606687734 replied to Weta43's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
These strings survived on a heavy fast mover like a ... early Tomcat. (not made out of wool though:)) - usefull during final parts of carrier approaches. -

I did have a chance to try Keiser Eletro-optics` SimEye (years ago!) and almost crapped in my pants - yup, that`s how good it looked!... and I thought to myself: eeh, give it couple of years and someone will start cranking these thing out for civilian market and a ... civilian price. It`s been almost 8 years:cry: ... -
@ Talon300th I like your sig... now I know I could be a great fighter pilot, especially the head part... everytime I pull it out - it snaps back in there:huh:

Just looked at couple threads at FO forum and found the link to this old vid. Some of the best A/G and A/A shots I`ve seen... (made by Eglin test unit:) ) In case you haven`t seen it yet: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7300994122848843064

Oh yea, an unforgetible "elevator to hell" ride.

Yep, in a nut shell. You just reminded me of old OV-10s and their part in a MAGTAF assault. Usually, 2 of them would haul ass above the tree tops, with 4 Force Recon guys packed like sardines in the back of each OV-10. Over the drop zone, sharp pull up (60 or 70 deg) , back door pops open and... off they go. It always looked like their chutes opened just in time:huh: . OV-10 winged over and got back to treetops. A lot more flexibility with Osprays.

Fair enough, still... give it to your bro:D (oops, this thread is about flankers -crusty out)
-
Were you guys on approach? At what altitude were you roughly when this burst hit you? Run through it briefly... if you don`t mind.

ED...It seems a big deal...

:) , BTW, Turkey - you in China? What`s up with Elmendorf stuff? -
Pilotasso, tell your brother to test Open Falcon (blk 52)... make sure that the roll inertia in the config file (the one for all the patches, etc) is enabled:) ... try different loads:D Oh, this FM is way different from RV.

[Video clip]: Windy landings
crusty1606687734 replied to suntrace1's topic in Screenshots and Videos
No. There are couple of crusty`s loitering around. I haven`t been to Frugal`s in years - not ever registered there. Not much time for browsing. -
[Video clip]: Windy landings
crusty1606687734 replied to suntrace1's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Son of a..., I`ve seen a lot of crazy approaches and landings but some of the shots in that video gave me a "pucker factor" . @Pilotasso - Great view! That runway is around 2800 m, isn`t it. Still, I`d put some friggin heavy barriers/barricades on both ends. -
one bad@$# f-22 airshow vid...MUGU 2007
crusty1606687734 replied to mikoriad's topic in Screenshots and Videos
3rd MAW from El Toro went to Miramar... Maverick`s outfit had to move to Fallon, NV:D - it lasted there for a while. -
one bad@$# f-22 airshow vid...MUGU 2007
crusty1606687734 replied to mikoriad's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Back in the day when I had time for airshows, Pt. Mugu was one of my favourite airshows. The scenery around the base was great - especially that big hill SW of the runways and the Tomcats popping from behind it, going feet dry... almost like the shows at my all time favourite MCAS El Toro (RIP:( ) - well, not too many Tomcats there, mostly Bugs doing tactical pops from all directions... Before I get too sentimental:cry: - yep, the vapor cloud ripping away from the Raptors wings looked spectacular. -
Hehe, 32 FPY:( ! Oh, I`ve seen some "cool" approximations recently though - named Open Falcon... ... just venting my enthusiasm and expressing my honesty (sort of like Pilotasso did) - hope it won`t get me spanked:huh:
-
Its only a dumb question if I dont ask...
crusty1606687734 replied to hitman's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I have... well, hmmm... But, just couple of hours ago I fired up Open Falcon on my buddy`s comp... It blew me away:huh: I`ll be testing it over the weekend. -
No, Lomac doesn`t allow you to turn your OBS knob on HSI. Hopefully in BS... There always good old magnetic compass if everything else craps out. Just check the correction table for possible interference errors from elec. system, airframe, etc. ... I could swear I saw the table somewhere in the T frog... have to check again.
