  1. coming soon to a theatre near you Ahh yiss . . . http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2159646#post2159646 thanks for the line drawings
  2. +1 on the Aussie Sabre. Although I'd be cool to have the 4 20mm ones too.
  3. In order to mitigate rising kill ratios against Migs and take advantage of head-on passes the old WW2 trick of a nose gunner was tested in the Sabrejet
  4. Topic hasn't been moved . . . I know in Rise of Flight, its definitely "arcaded out". They have a biplane here, and got to fly around in it. They do acrobatics and there's a second pit big enough for couples. The camel replica next to it flies about the same speed and maneuverability wise. Those things are slow. I mean slow. Even compared to a Cessna. But there's just sometime awesome flying the biplane with my face in the wind, even if the helmet isn't period (for safety), and at that speed allows one to look around see the sky, how the clouds are, watching the ground, cars below. Even watching down town cruise across below is fun. And it must have been gut retching watching opposing planes slowly get to you knowing that doom is creeping up and about to arrive. In this summer blockbuster and space age time, few have the patience to fly around in a properly modeled biplane and I can see why they made that more game like. But I'd rather they sim it right. But unfortunately Rise of Flight devs can't capture the feeling of riding a biplane because the technology isn't to the level of Startrek's holo-dock. But Rise of flight is more exciting and faster (than real). I am wondering if they did the same to that as they did with ROF (make it faster / more action oriented). I haven't tried the new IL-2 series, the Battle of Britain won't run on the PC (it's specs are more than enough, 3.7 quad and GTX 770)), and the Battle of Stalingrad supposedly will work, but to join the open access its the cost of two modules. I guess they learned their lesson from the first one and testing it out. It's hard to compare things. Both set of developers have different sets of goals and plans for the WW 2 genre. DCS has its own thing. Who knows once the normandy map is done and all the units promised for the World War 2 set, will DCS or a 3rd party will revisit that era and make another WW 2 theater? DCS world will allow us to do the civilization thing (the game), where a ww2 era civ can go head to head to modern civ . . . like the scenario where one can go jets and helos vs props. I saw a poster of a F-14 tomcat and it said that one plane had enough firepower of an entire WW2 fighter squadron. Well in DCS world that can be put to the test (well they have to have the TOmcat module though). I'm sure Il-2 can do it if its modded but that might only be once they release a SDK but the devs there said it was on the long range outlook. The 777 new IL-2 series seems dedicated to doing what the old IL-2 has for WW2 so I'll expect them to expand it, and the devs there have stated they will continue if it sells (based on the forum those people there will definitely do that). One thing for sure, is the new IL-2 fans almost have the same passion we have here! :D And some have dual citizen ship ;)
  5. If I could only have 3 inputs I'd have a stick, throttle and track IR 5 . . . trim . . . if your mouse has a scroll wheel, that would help . . . I didn't like twist for yaw so I I mapped two buttons the joystick base to do yaw also . . . thats a good joystick, but I had to tweak the profile . . . +1 on playing and getting pedals later then I got the ch hotas . . . yum!
  6. wow the FW 190 should become a meme, its been argued in every sim since 2001. A few points, when I sat in a fw190, there is a point where eye level can drop to where the frame becomes the bar, but if you raise your eye level the bar is less and becomes more of the frame (seen in the hundreds of pit pix people are throwing up) In this elder sim centered around a famous soviet ww2 era ground attack plane that stalin liked, the bar was really bad but I could still nail ships, even the ones that dropped below the bar, I think I figured where their flight direction would take them and hose the sky, cuz the FW had ammo. So even if the bar isn't "fixed" one could still do fabulous gunnery. I've been on the receiving end enough times to know esp in the aforementioned famous sim based on the soviet ground attack plane that the A-10 was sorta partly modeled after where the bar was raised pretty good.
  7. Sounds like the OS might need some maintenance based off the time line of your posts and issue and the slow degrade of the game. On a well kept Win 7, the programs will run even if constantly used (although sometimes updates might break 'em) See if you can run the game (and modules) on a different profile that is barely used or new (create one if you don't have one). If it does run fine, back up your important data then delete and recreate your profile (google it if you don't know how), then move your data from your old profile to your new one. If you get the same results run in the new profile. Then back up important files and then . . . Run system scans (anti virus / malware bytes etc) / sfc scannow. If your not sure how to do all that; google the how to stuff for win 7. http://www.sevenforums.com/ is a good place . Then update your drivers (mainly video card) and uninstall / reinstall DCS modules (back up your profiles n data). hope this helps.
  8. that'd be cool, they could use the ka-50's 30mm as its already modeled (well the a-10 30 is too fast . . ) . . . I liked cannon more than mguns in ww2 and korea . . . era sims.
  9. pacific everybody loves carriers . . . its not easy modelling those, and getting the wind and sea effects . . . the feel for the landing . . . I'd really want this. I wouldn't be surprised if something like the dauntless or skyraider, even a Japanese plane and a small / jeep carrier (like a moving island) came out as opposed to the more popular planes or Ironworks ones (G***man and the driver's license). Just the nature of ED, I was thrown off when they were released as opposed to more popular crafts (blackshark? but the cobra everyone knows about . . . wait a-10? what about F-14 or Falcon). But hey it works, some flying awesomeness that isn't the most popular but people can get into. Luthier wanted to draw the most crowds and why the WW2 featured the most popular planes upon release (as opposed to unknown eastern front theaters with two planes that influenced A-10 designers . . .) But now once the initial promises are done . . . Maybe the pacific will be handled as usual, with cool but not well known planes. When it comes around. I wouldn't be surprised (either) if WW2 release, then back to more modern things . . .
  10. Well some tips, research the brand based off of longevity and quality. At work they've committed to be an HP house, and boy headaches galore on the low quality ships they front as combat ready. then go back and research again. learn to open up the laptop and use canned air to blow out the fan and the fan of the video card (remember to stop the fans with a paper clip, preferably a plastic one so the bearings don't get tore up + unplug the battery, so you don't short stuff out w/ the paper clip.) game for a few hours, then shut the laptop down completely, pull the battery / ac off, and chill it out for a few minutes and back on use less peripherals or a get a uber signal keeping USB hub (but most I've tried don't, even good ones will have stutter for trackir etc), preferably less peripherals is better, since most laptops have 4 USB or so. don't put anything on top of the laptop. like MJ is a gateway drug, once one gets used to putting stuff on top, one day the coke can is there and spillage clean + air blow out the keyboard / watch out for the ac adapter plugs / unplug the ac adapter once you are finished. ALot of issues happen if the ac / power is pulled or put into a back pack and a little pressure can pop the holder in and its a soldering job or RMA to fix it. uninstall all the junk programs. laptops seems to come with them, and attract them. and lots of those apps run in the background too. check batteries and replace them (often). bad batteries can power spike a laptop and reduce it to blue screens and reboots and the worse is can't turn on the laptop (unless you release the battery and use AC adapter only, then push battery back in once its started) w/ battery in. get a mini mouse, and keyboard. or better a wireless paired keyboard and mouse (one usb receiver for both mouse and kb), they have a wired versions of one usb to two, but watch Tangled for effect. don't ever place things on the keyboard while the laptop is open. once it becomes a habit, all it takes is one fast closing the lid with a pen / chord / keys / cell and christmas tree pixels comes early. and avoid trying to carry multiple items in the hand that has the laptop, even if its a magazine. new laptops like to fall on a corner, and once it becomes a habit, juggling items with a bomber laptop arm / hand . . . --- I know OP wants a laptop but for those sitting on the fence who can own a desktop but thinking a laptop is better . . . I'm all for a desktop, in fact I've built a PC based of bets made at work for all those laptops turned in by requiring power that had our company purchase beast like workstation laptops built to their hearts (and application) spec's. In general sense, desktops perform better and run longer than laptops in heavy usage (gaming, graphics etc) even if spec's match. desktops have more PSU / fan / mobo design / spatial layout, and cooling is big. Heat is a kryptonite to electronics. Some of main issues is the heft and size of those workstation laptops. They are heavy, and even with the linebacker built guys (and gals), and some can't even fit standard backpacks. Next is the heat issue. They heat up fast. In the lesser quality laptops that means it crashes or have to shut it down for a bit. Limited peripheral plug ins. Even with the dock. If you have a mouse / keyboard / HOTAS / petals , and trackIR or some trackIR clone USBs can run out. No room for the gaming headset. And most offerings have cheesy 4 USBs . . . But wait, what about USB hubs. Even in 2014 usb hubs have crackles with sound or weird max headroom pan issues w/ sensory devices. Then there's the ever present fan issue (related to heat). And batteries. Yeah right now its 15-20 hours, but 5 days a week on heavy gaming will drop it. And the laptops crunched in size comes at a cost, if running the processors at full speed (which gaming tends to do) it will over heat it, and reduce the lifetime of it / as opposed to tower, which components are spread out w/ decent fan placement, stays cooler. And places to store, mods, maps, skins . . . most laptops roll with 256 or 512 HDD's, plenty of space but then there's videos, and music . . . And if you have the newest ones with the tiny RAM like stick HDD's it take a college tuition to get a 512 of those. The other thing is the monitor, unless you get the rare laptops that sport the 21 or 22", but most I've seen in reasonable price ranges are 17-19" range. You could got with dual 22" via the dock but if you have room for that, you can get a ATX tower and slip it behind the monitors.
  11. tiger tanks well the mustang's native armament should have no problem dealing with the tigers. Especially if they model the ground deflection to separate their treads or hit them from under. on a serious note . . . have some AA, like a 40mm ish and a 88 flak have some ships; destroyer, cruiser, battleship, and carrier, maybe tanker / cargo / troop ship AI planes of bombers, recon, fighters, attack, and a sea plane type infantry . . . vehicles, tanks, trucks, tankers (i like explosions) AI civilians would be a nice touch to have them gawk or run. Maybe have towns / villages / and various sceneries . . . farms . . . hedgerows. bases, like a forwarding, main airfield, main infantry base. And a HQ type base / super fortified cereal type. I'd rather keep things simple to aid, so maybe a few ground targets, AA, a forwarding base to start . . . Ok we'd have to have a final countdown map, where modern assets get time thrown back in ww2 (one team is modern and other team is ww2) scenario like normandy map, and duke it out for victory. I don't know how to balance it but one can look at starcraft (one) to start, maybe have ww2 like zerg and modern like protoss? anycase
  12. I really like both, but I do so much better with cannons. If they had the D10 or D13 . . . I really love the nose cannon. But I like the all around-ness of the p-51.
  13. I think Germans would have won if they fielded MiG-21's. They only had teens of those so when the US shot down 4 that's a huge % of it. Just kidding. Germans did have wonderful tech. It's amazing. But so did the other belligerents in the war. Tech is just a tool and how its used is what counts. Sometimes its a huge advantage and sometimes it's not. There are many factors to win / lose a war. High tech engineering is only one factor. Some factors have much more impact like the ability to make more bacon, beans and rice or to have more boots on the ground or more wings in the air and the ability to transport aforementioned red beans and rice to their destination (yum). The part about the haxing . . . . made me laugh. Imagine the frustration of the Japanese with those wind talkers. Sometimes just doing the math(s) won't work. To bad modern German engineering isn't as good as their dubya 2 forms. W00t for Audi electrical issues, and BMW massive engine fatal breaks to Porsche Christmas tree display lights . Same with Americans, seems like Japan cars have the Gr*****n ironworks, I remember offroading and boulder bashing, and this one tundra and tacoma had to tow out the GMC, Ford, chevy, and two jeeps out of this gnar gnar rock place. The electrical cooler and quality microbrews helped. The microbrews were German and Belgium :D
