  1. now i'm not an expert on the warthog and this very well just be part of the sim and all but let's say i have a significantly heavier right wing load and it's causing instability, so the obvious thing to do is to trim it to the left right? well when i do that the aircraft becomes INSANELY unstable to the point where no matter how perfectly i trim it to counter the wonky directional movement i still can't even keep it stable with autopilot on. does the horizontal trim only effect rudder input? because based on how the aircraft responds it seems like that's what's going on. it's literally impossible to fly like this, it's like trying to fly a plane that's balancing on a unicycle on a tightrope :P

[EDIT] this should have gone in the bugs and problems section apologies everyone

  2. I have taped foam on to the base of my x55 stick which raises my hand about an inch. This allows me to reach the weapon release and trim buttons without moving my hand. It would be nice to have a smaller castle hat.

I really like having two rotaries right on my throttle thumb. In fighters I have them set to "zoom view' and 'radar elevation'.

It's very nice if you get one that works:thumbup:

that's a neat idea! has the dms hat given you any problems? especially when trying to push it to the right

  3. first im gonna start by saying yes i know this topic has probably been done to DEATH but i thought i would present my situation to see what would work for me right now. my budget is about 475$ and i could either get an X55 and flashy rudder pedals or a warthog with like 90$ CH pro pedals. i was at first set on the X55 but after i stumbled upon a video made by ralfidude which brought to light a lot of the issues of the X55, i was definitely leaning more towards the warthog. HOWEVER it's worth mentioning i have slightly bigger than average and slim hands, which i heard makes the X55 more accessible. i also like the 3 different profiles, but i really wouldnt be too heartbroken if i went with the warthog and kept using the keyboard for less essential commands like landing gear. i kind of wish that you could still get the cougar but even if i did get it i hear the software is seriously outdated. stiction is also big concern of mine in the case of the warthog, and im not too keen on taking it apart to the bare minimum to fix that issue.

SO dear people of dcs what do you think? should i get the cheaper X55 or the big bad beefy warthog and try and scrape in some more money for cheap rudder pedals?

[EDIT] another thing im concerned about is the throttle. i REALLY like the switches on the warthog throttle, not so much on the rhino. the rhino's hat switches, from what i understand, are so small that it's incredibly hard to use them as say a china hat switch, as well as the fact that it's very easy to bump them both while trying to access just one of them]

  4. I read something the other day about the A-10 vs the F-35. The point raised in the article is that because the A-10 uses pods it can always carry the latest sensors but aircraft with more integrated avionics and sensors are harder to upgrade so they can actually lag in capability.

So the F-35 is like an iMac Air that you can't really upgrade without sending it back to the factory while the A-10 is like a Big ugly PC where you can kinda upgrade the parts as you go BUT it will never be as integrated as an iMac Air.

yeah, another thing that has me a little concerned is the rather limited storage capability within the internal bays, and yeah you can always put them under the wing but there goes the stealth that serves as the F-35's main advantage on the battlefield

i think that the F-35 would be great alongside the new super duper hornet too, and the silent eagle looks pretty neat.

oh and real quick on the budget thing, the F-35 program has cost the U.S. the same amount of money needed to buy every homeless american a mansion. we spend more on our military budget than all other major military powers COMBINED, so yeah i wouldn't be too worried about america being in any real danger (or at least any danger that would directly threaten you)

  5. hi i just thought i would drop in here to give my 2 cents on the F-35

what i'm worried about is facing another situation like vietnam, when the U.S. had just unlocked the true potential in air to air missiles, but forced it on their planes too much. take the phantom for example, it had nothing but it's missiles to rely on, no gun, and needless to say that greatly hindered it's capabilities, especially during "dogfights". now here we are with the F-35 and the F-22, and we're so hell bent on integrating stealth technology into air warfare that we are throwing billions of dollars down the drain over a fighter that MIGHT see combat.

as an air to air fighter? sure i wouldn't downplay it's capabilities. as a precision bomber? yeah i don't see why not. for close air support? the very idea is laughable, and not (completely) because of the planes capabilities, but because planes like the A-10 can take a punch, many punches. the F-35 with it's fragile air frame seems pretty easy to down, and there goes aaaall 100+ million dollars right into the ground, and possibly a good pilot as well. plus what would you rather have protecting you? a hulking tank of a jet with a massive armament and 30mm canon that would make anyone dive for cover at the very sound of it, or a very high tech paper airplane? i'm personally very interested in seeing where the F-35 is going to end up in the years to come, but mostly in the air to air role

[edit] feel free to contradict me on this! i would really like to hear other's opinions on the F-35 directly compared to mine

  6. so basically just practice until i can predict him?

and yeah the A-4 is a true godsend, the more i learn about it's general usage in both air-to-air and air-to-ground the more impressed i get seeing how advanced it is compared to something like the K-4, which is still pretty cool in itself considering it being in a time period of fixed gunsights

  7. hi all! i was recently messing with the ai mig-15 and quickly realized that the biggest issue i had was having not nearly enough energy to keep up with the AI in many cases. my question here is if i should instead focus on trying to lure the mig into a turn fight rather than constantly chasing it up in the vertical and stalling out. or maybe im just bad and need experience :P or is the mig AI still a little wonky?

  8. i think that i would be putting it lightly in saying that the mig-29 is the most neglected of the fc3 aircraft, and im not expecting or praying for anything but does anyone think there's a chance for a mig-29 afm? i don't wanna turn this into another post begging ED for another module while they're still busy working very hard with the new maps and EDGE so much as i wanna make it an insightful topic :D

  9. I can't say I've had enough experience with the Mig to tell if this is a bug or not, but my instruments are all frozen, altimeter, artificial horizon, ect. Restarted DCS and everything and still nothin'.

(I started the missions in both ready to taxi, on the runway, and airborne and in my experience those usually have all the systems ready to go)

  10. this is something i've wondered quiet a bit. the aim-120s just seem better in general, but i would like to know if the aim-7s have something to them that the amraams don't. does flood mode have some advantages over something like amraams with boresight mode?
