  1. Just a quick update : I got today my new 1060GTX 6Gb, and well, it's a glorious upgrade. Average performance enhancement : from ~50% to ~250%, depending on the situation. And this with graphic settings maxed out. Totally worth it, in case some folks would like to upgrade from a 750Ti. The 6GB VRAM are not filled to max most of the time, i'd say 4/4,5. Good thing is DCS now uses way less RAM, allowing me to let a few chrome tabs while playing. Thx for the advices anyway. Flying the Viggen @60FPS and more is pure joy ;)
  2. Thx all for your infos and advices. I pre ordered the Viggen, and I'm going to wait to see what experience/FPS I get with this module. I remember the MIG21 was awful regarding FPS when it was released (had to fly without canopy to get suitable FPS rate), then they improved it a lot. I'm expecting a lot from the Viggen, so if my 750Ti can't deal with this module, I'll go for a 1060 GTX 6Gb.. Wait and see.
  3. I don't own NTTR map so I can't complain yet about having only 2Gb VRAM built in my 750Ti :music_whistling: Anyway, good points you mentioned, indeed i've forgotten about the upcoming Caucasus upgrade. I'll definitely go with a 6Gb 1060 GTX. Well what a great time to be alive heh ? The first GPU I bought back in the days with my hardly earned money, when 32Mb VRAM was incredible... But that's another discussion...
  4. ok, I think i'll go with the 6gb version then...thx for your inputs so far. I'll try to get one on january sale. Anyway, if someone with a 3gb 1060GTX could post a quick review, that could be very interesting.
  5. Hi, I'd like to buy a new GPU to replace my little 750Ti. Since my only CPU/GPU demanding game is DCS, I was wondering if there are big differences regarding performances between the 3gb version and the 6Gb version of the 1060GTX. Does the extra price tag worths it in this case ? My current setup : - i5 2500k - 16Gb RAM - SSD - 21/9 main monitor @ 2560x1080, with a viewport export (ka50's Shkval+Abris) on my secondary 1920x1080 monitor. I currently quite happy with the game overall performances, except in big multiplayer missions, I sometimes drop to 15/20 FPS, but most of the time I get decent FPS (~40/50) So if tech gurus could drop their opinion about these 1060GTX. I know the 6Gb version GPU has a bit more horsepower too, but does it really matter in my case ? Thx !
  6. 2 things that pop up in my mind reading this thread : - Windows DOES need a pagefile enabled 99% of the time, say at least 4Gb regarding your set up. It loads many things in this file, not only stuff for your current front program. Always keep pagefile (from my experience) activated. You can find more infos about this on various dedicated websites and help forums. - It is hugely recommended to let 10/15% of free space when using a SSD, to prevent cell failures. This is called over-provisioning (many explanations available, like there) Take care of your beloved SSD :smartass:
  7. Thank you Snacko for your advices. I basically remade a quick monitorsetup file for my 2 main aircrafts (ka-50 and su25T) and it works. Cannot change aircraft type while playing multiplayer session though (I mean, regarding monitor exports of course), have to get back to main menu options to change monitor profile...let's hope ED will fix this quickly !
  8. Same here with ka50 and SU25T. Looking forward for a fix ! Note the default-included monitor setups (3 screens, MFCD left + right, etc) are working. My custom one does not work anymore.
  9. I had the same issue as many of you here, game requested an activation for the 21 because of "new hardware detected", which was a wrong statement. I solved it by running DCS as "administrator", it requested activation again, i followed the procedure, and after a short while, it did the trick. I can now fly the 21 without any problem. My OS is win8 64bits pro. Hope this helps.
  10. I'm switching to another solution : virtualization. I'm used to use Vmware Workstation for various applications, got it installed in my laptop, which has 16gb of RAM. So basically the idea is to run a virtualized win 7/8 64bits on my laptop, assigning it 8Gb RAM, and storing the virtual HDD on the NAS. Then it's all about proper traffic routing :smilewink: Already did that a few years ago for a couple of heavy game servers (minecraft for instance), it was working very well. Loading times indeed won't be as fast as with my gaming PC SSD...but once the game is running and loaded, this shouldn't be a big issue. Once again this is for a temporary/occasional DCS server , to play a few hours with 10/15 players. Server performances have to be fair but not exceptionally good. On a Gigabit LAN network, with optimized network stack, transfert rates and access latency are very good. I'm gonna have some tests and i'll let you know here how it goes.
  11. Hi all, Has someone already tried to install DCS files on a NAS home server ? I'd like to use my office laptop (i5 2520 + 8Gb ram + win8.1 64) as a DCS server sometimes (let's say twice a week, when I play with friends). Thing is I have a limited amount of free space in my laptop's SSD. I have an external USB hard drive but my laptop only has USB2 ports, I'm afraid about transfert rates with this solution. So I'd like to use the free space available in my Synology NAS drives to store the game files, and just keep the C:/user/saved games/DCS files locally in my laptop. If anybody already managed to achieve this, then : - How about loading times ? Ingame, any stuttering due to TCP/IP latency ? - Can the DCS installer / updater manage to deal with files stored on a LAN drive (using Windows file share service / I could mount it as a network drive though) ? (considering once again my DCS user files will be stored locally on my laptop) ? I could try without asking, but If can avoid to download the 10Gb installation files again... Thx in advance !
  12. I can confirm it happens especially in VA server, on crowded evening... After about 30 mins flying in MiG21, graphics crashed. See Attach. My CG is a 750Ti, 2Gb VRAM, and monitoring logs show V memory was filled to max... Forerunner : FPS became slow a few minutes before...but GPU temp was ok. By the way, i never encountered this graphic issue in DCS, except while playing in VA server. For instance, playing in a very crowded 104th server (about 50 players connected, tons of objects, long time playing...), it never happened. Even though external view is disabled there ofc.
  13. Here is a quick recording i made showing this fps drop : - Ingame resolution is 2560*1080 - the MiG is cold Please note I recorded this with FRAPS, and this software makes my FPS dropping a lot. But still, it can gives you a good idea of the framerate ratio drop : 28 FPS canopy open (35/36 without FRAPS), 19 FPS canopy closed (about 24/25 without FRAPS).
  14. Any news from LS on this matter ? Do you think the 21's canopy "FX filter" or "FX effect" or whatever you may want to call it could be easily changed with a mod ? Like replacing it with the Su-27 or Su-25 canopy glass ?
  15. Same FPS count with or without mirrors enabled...(or difference is barely noticeable) Mirrors kill FPS with Su-27 for instance, not with the MiG-21's small periscope (at least with my setup).
