  1. I have been playing with the Super carrier offline. Much more to it than I expected. But the Yellow shirt Director works fine till my plane is ready for launch and then won't give the sign to spin up t he engine. He instead waves a no go signal with he hand low back and forth. This signal is not even in the Docs... What can I do? Salute , shift U, don't work and no explanation of why.
  2. Gee I hadn't even considered that possibility that it is deliberately limited. I assume that kind of limiting is usually in elevator but I don't know that with any certainty. I did some practice offline against an AI F-5E and I see that in a typical manoeuvring fight I am often slowed down enough that the rudder isn't totally locked up the way it is when flying straight at top speed. So it's not as bad as I thought in practice. Still it is hard to aim the gun at high speed.
  3. I'm aiming with my eyes only. I haven't worked out the radar ranging. My shooting is generally quite good in most planes. But I tend too like flying with rudder rolls at high alpha. Flying a plane where I can't to that means I gotta learn to aileron roll to shoot I guess. It is normal for the rudder to practically lock up at high speed in the mig 19 isn't it?
  4. I'm trying to spend a bit of time in the Farmer on Cold war server. I want to like the plane but the lack of rudder authority at typical fighting speeds really makes it hard to aim those cannons. The rudder works fine at low speeds but once I am high sub sonic where I need to be to fight I can barely aim. So is this because the rudder has no hydraulic booster like the ailerons do. I assume that's what happening. Anyone know of real life sources saying the rudder is that bad? Am I doing something wrong? Did I forget to press the switch that makes the rudder work? Did the Russians pilots do leg press for training?
  5. I hadn't realised the r530 was meant for killing bombers. That makes sense. I was thinking of this F1 as a rival of the Mig23 but a closer look at the specs reveal that the F1 only has engine power closer to the Mig21. And the Mig21 bis has emergency AB on top. So this will more typically be flown with 2 or 4 Sidewinders if the r530 are not gonna do much against low flying fighters opponent. Heaters, guns and burners. Perfect for Cold war servers. I love that the F1 can fly on red or blue with historical authenticity. Iraqi skins and can red get a new plane.
  6. I'm a fan of bad missiles in DCS. I love a fight where both sides launch multiple missiles and they all miss or are decoyed and the fight goes from longer range missiles, to short range missiles, to guns... Longer fights with lots of weapons deployed are great for game play. Compare that to both sides launching a single BVR Fox3 and going evasive and then both die anyway... How good or bad are the regular 530 compared to the Super 530? How do they compare to the Soviet R23 Mig 23 carried.
  7. 7 zip worked. Thankyou
  8. Hey guys I like the bit where he asks if it's two more weeks and gets slapped in the face
  9. It tells me the fix is broken. I can't open it.
  10. Thanks for the reply. So this is working correctly it seems. I have most of them. It seems to have tripled in size even though I haven't added any new modules. AT least I know it's working correctly now.
  11. I couldn't get the updater to work and eventually I realised that there was not enough space on the SSD for the installation and the download folder within DCS file structure to download the update. So I put DCS on a 500 gig SSD that also has IL2X installed. It had over 120 gig free space, even that was not enough and I had to move it to a 1TB SSD. This is absurd. How big is the DCS folder supposed to be with most of the modules ? 280 gig is what I am seeing now I got it updated to open beta
  12. I just had this happen twice in a row, on final online. Tried testing it off line and nothing went wrong. Is this multiplayer only ?
  13. Just letting you know slider. My problem is definitely a broken SSD... Good luck problem solving yours.
  14. I'm not sure of anything at this point. The same SSD has Escape from Tarkov on it, and it won't start either but I am able to repair EFT. I can't repair DCS maybe because it is over 240 gig. ireaslly don't want to delete it and reinstall as that will take days at the speed it downloads. Is there a way to repair DCS in smaller chunks?
  15. I think found the problem. It seems the SSD DCS is installed on is broken and it's just a coincidence that 2.7 came out. dam. This is a 240 gig download ! and the down loader won't even let us throttle it or pause it ... SMH
  16. Tried to update to 2.7 this morning and can't start the updater. Also can't start DCS either. downloaded a new version of the updater and tried that. Same thing: 00000.190 --- Log file: C:\Users\JC\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\autoupdate_templog.txt 00000.000 === Log opened UTC 2021-04-15 23:07:48 00000.022 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.11.1.83 (Windows NT 10.0.19041; Win64; en-US) 00000.022 INFO : src-id: 24d5f8ee266f56820c3a2b4568594f68e8dd773e, lib-id: bf64e300edca29ae7ef5ba1d4db27e53a1213fa2 00000.023 INFO : cmdline: "D:\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update 00000.145 STATUS: Initializing... 00000.147 INFO : basedir: D:\DCS World\ 00000.190 ERROR: Can't parse config: JSON error: lexical error: invalid char in json text. I also noticed that the variant doc file in the installation folder had openalpha as variant so I changed that to open beta. I suspect all of this is beside the point anyway... I don't know where json text is ? Also last week I was having trouble with certain maps so tried running full slow repair and it would hang my PC about two third of way through. So I deleted the maps and redownloaded and it worked fine till 2.7. Anyone know where json file is?
  17. Really enjoying playing with the newly fine tuned FM for DCS MiG-21. I found this great resource about the MiG-21 in USAF Aggressor Squadron. It's a really good read for DCS MiG-21 fans and fanatics. The new FM seems to be closer to the test pilots descriptions than it was before. They state: "Even the mighty F-15 Eagle had no solution in dogfight below 150-250 knots against MiG-21 in US Aggressor hands...This way Mig-21 will remain behind every opponent still having sufficient control ability for gun tracking using rudder rolls...It is obvious that US aggressor pilots pulled full aft stick in turn regardless of the lateral oscillations, roll off and temporary loss of control. " I found this hard to believe at first. So I did a bit of testing and with the current FM we can hold back on the stick below 250km/h and use rudder rolls with pretty good control. I tested against F5 tiger... Merge, zoomed climb and at the top, at very slow speed was able to out turn him quite well. Almost like a pedal turn... But the article says the MiG-21 F they had was able to out turn an F-15 like this! It says the Bis model should have good slow speed characteristics too, while not as quite nice as the lighter F . So I tested against an AI F-15 with ace skill. guns only. This is a whole new way to fly the MiG-21 for me. You can see that the F-15 really had me on the defensive and I was able to turn the situation around very quickly using this slow speed high alpha tactics described by USAF Aggressors.
  18. Incase anybody doesn't know about this. We have detailed description from the USAF aggressor pilots use of the MiG-21 at slow speed and high AOA, full aft stick and rudder rolls. That's where I got the idea to try this counter intuitive tactics. Read page 4 -5 "Even the mighty F-15 Eagle had no solution in dogfight below 150-250 knots against MiG-21 in US Aggressor hands...This way Mig-21 will remain behind every opponent still having sufficient control ability for gun tracking using rudder rolls...It is obvious that US aggressor pilots pulled full aft stick in turn regardless of the lateral oscillations, roll off and temporary loss of control. "
  19. I just tried the FM and IMO think it's the best it's ever been. Bravo. Still very challenging to fly if you go over AOA limits it drops a wing without warning but once you are down to very slow speed you can control nicely at high AOA. This is really fun to fly like this. You can see I drop a wing at 1.02 sec and then held the stick back and just used rudder to roll till until I got gun on Tiger. I love it.
  20. can't wait to try it
  21. I took off on multiplayer server as RED F16 thinking at last I deal with the Blue Patriots and Hawks... Ten minutes later I land where I took off with HARMs still under my wings. Can't target Blue missiles :(
  22. I've never had issues with FPS in the MIg 21 until the last update. Strangely enough my FPS chugs with very high AOA. Weirdest thing. I was testing the stall behaviour and noticed the FPS would half as I stalled the plane.... WTH ?! Maybe i was looking down ward and the radar screen was coming into view? I'll have to test again
  23. Some of the most satisfying moments in the Fishbed were nailing an aero break after a successful PvP online sorte. I've been using the SPS ... I approach just below 300km/h and without too much concern for perfect speed and decent rate but then just before touchdown I give it a little burst of the throttle just enough for the blown flaps to cancel out the descent rate to almost nothing just as the main wheels touch down. For me the timing of this burst of blown flaps powered lift is what makes it work. The front wheel will usually still try to come down but this movement is gentle enough for a little back stick to counter if i get that burst of power right. Very satisfying indeed.
  24. Just found this great work! Hopefully your sounds get integrated into the module and credited to you at some stage. I've been asking in this forum for months, maybe years, for some audio feedback for AOA, buffeting, airframe creaking, cockpit shake, audible vortex or turbulent flow over wings. Riding the AOA limit is so important in this module and we don't have the other feedback a real pilot would have from all his senses. I wonder if some seasoned Mig 21 pilots could smell the AOA limits approaching? lol As you some of the other modules have great audio feedback for AOA. There is no doubt when you are pushing the AOA limit. Thanks you for your efforts.
