I'm using an old FFB stick and a couple of years ago I was pretty good at riding the edge in the mig 21 but not any more. Some of that is stick time. I had a lot more back then. Maybe i'm just rusty but it seems to have changed also. I really can't imagine how anyone flies it without a FFb stick. Must be hard. I switched the ARU to manual and turned the sensitivity all the way up and that made a big difference. Thanks for that suggestion

I'm struggling with the mig21 too. The pitch limited at hi speed is hurting but I wish we had some sound feedback as it approaches AOA stall. It's impossible to watch the AOA indicator while riding the edge and looking up at the enemy aircraft. Some buffeting noise would REALLY help me fly this plane better. I can see vaper/ turbulent flow if I look over my shoulder at high alpha. Would that be audible in real life? I have also noticed that if I do go over AOA and into stall it's now quite controllable with the stick all the way back and using rudder to roll. Right down to 200kp/h. I've had a few fights where I was able to force an overshoot by going into something like a deep stall and rolling with rudder. After the violent wing drop just pull the stick all the way back and it's is surprisingly controllable. I had a 7 minute fight with a F-14 on cold war ... he would out turn me and I would force an over shoot with this maneuver.. over and over ... It seems the FM has evolved a lot over the years.

Is it possible to datalink the F16c with the Russian A50 AWACS?
-
Yes same thing here. Growling Sidewinder used to be so smooth and fast on my average PC. I5 4GHz, 16 gig ram, gtx 1070 8gig Vram and 500Gig SSHD But now with this new mission it runs like crap. lag spike after lag spike and I look at the number of ground units and I'm not surprised ! There is two huge fronts with with ships and sam everywhere. How can we give them feedback ? they might have super computers to play on and don't know why we all leaving? because too many units for us.

Mig21bis in DCS has been easily my favorite DCS module. I've flown in online for thousands of hours and quite competitively on the cold war servers. I use a FFB stick so the feeling of holding the nose just above stall requires roughly the same amount of stick pressure even as the speed and stick angles both change dynamically. So it is quite easy to hold the Mig 21 on the edge without looking at the AOA indicator if you have a FFB stick. Of course most DCS flyers don't use FFB and it is no surprise to me that many complain that they can't fly the Mig21 in a dog fight. Ofcourse they can't. They can't tell if the plane is about to stall with no ffb. They have to take their eyes off the enemy and look at the AOA indicator... There are two flashing red lights that warn of AOA limit on the canopy but they are too low to see while looking up at an enemy plane you are turning into. I could speculate that the devs have caved into pressure from these people and made the mig now impossible to stall from over Alpha. I just tested it and there is no FFB ( which makes me wonder if the Devs are flying without FFB) and I can just hold the stick back to the stop at all speeds without any chance of departure. It is now like Fly By Wire and the best thing about this module is lost. Maybe some more visible cockpit shaking might help the non FFB guys know that they are about to go over AOA limits. Or even better, some sound effects of the air frame straining would also be a good help for knowing the AOA limits are approaching. The Viggen airframe for example makes a lot of noise as you approach AOA limits. Please consider sounds and visual ques to show AOA limits instead of removing them completely. Many of us love this aspect of flying the mig21 I for one hope the AOA limits are restored to more challenging and realistic levels and the FFB fixed. Mig21 has such great FFB in DCS it was the only module I could feel the transition from supersonic to subsonic in FFB stick pressure alone.

It's terrible. It's like it's been dumbed down so it requires no skill to fly anymore. Also the FFB is gone. It was my favorite DCS plane precisely because it was so challenging and rewarding to fly well. I can't fly it like this.

Me too, no FFB at all. Mig21 had the best feedback in DCS IMO :(

ED handles all the missiles performance. 3rd party devs don't set performance of their jets weapons. I was under the impression that all BVR missiles have much shorter range in the sim than in real life. I'm fine with that. It would not be fun multiplayer to just fire at 40 nm and turn to go home and land. To be honest this is why I am not much interested in 4th gen .. because the older 3rd gen actually got close enough to see each other and shoot.

[MISSING TRACK FILE] Attack Radar keeps scanning left side of the screen I have this problem with my radar only scanning the left side of the screen. I also see that I can't change the antenna elevation. If I move the cursor to the right side of the screen and press lock it will move to the right and attempt tot lock but then unlocking it just goes back to the left side scanning. I've tried all the typical things... it's not in ACM modes, or the scanning angles... Whats worse is I remember having the same problem many months ago and found the solution and I remember it is simple to fix but I can't remember what I did. Any one know what I'm talking about? Maybe ill have to make a youtube video to show what it happening . I will if no body know s what I am talking about. Thanks for any help offered.

When I try to fly the Mig 19 online I am stuck with the "default" skin which is a garish red prototype skin instead of the beautiful bare metal skin that is named "default". Lots of servers lock the skin to default to avoid loading of peoples skins... The red skin is not as annoying as the ugly tiger meet skin the Mirage 2000 was stuck with for so long but it is ugly and unrealistic and I want to use the fantastic bare metal skin that is so much more realistic. Please change the default back the bare metal skin.

I use a duel shock controller with my left hand for the extra buttons and the analog sticks to move the cursors for sensors. So I don't miss the extra buttons of a WH. Buttons are no comparison to feeling the FM in your stick hand. Good to hear at least one of the Devs has a MS FFB SW 2 but is that what he normally uses or does he have it in the cupboard? Most guys who use them are fanatics who will have no interest in flying with a spring stick . i know I certainly have no interest in flying with out FFB.

Finding out that heat blur fly with out FFB is like finding out they fly with out Track IR or VR... Kinda shocked they are using spring sticks in development. I'm using FFB edit soft ware to emulate a spring but doesn't work very well. I get it just right then start DCS and it is too strong or I do the long F-14 start up and go to taxi and realise it isn't on at all. Have to restart DCS to get it working :(

I'm happy to have another red plane to play with but the flight model is hopefully a work in progress :) I found this great account of the Farmer from a pakistani veteran. He gives detailed descriptions of the handling. Here are some quotes I found interesting Flying and fighting in the MiG-19: In conversation with Wg. Cdr. Irfan Masum (Rtd) https://hushkit.net/2017/10/30/flying-and-fighting-in-the-mig-19-in-conversation-with-wg-cdr-irfan-masum-part-1/ "“The F-86F had automatic leading edge slats, speed operated – a virtue not available to most other fighters around, not even the F-86E. That made the plane extremely manoeuvrable at low speeds. The MiG-19, on the other hand an aerodynamic problem where it would ‘adverse yaw’ at low speeds, often snapping out of hard turns during low speed manoeuvring. One had to assist a hard turn with a bit of inside rudder to keep it from ‘adverse yawing’. "... ...“There were quite a few bad qualities but the worst, in my opinion, was the thick wing which made transonic speeds (just short of Mach 1) very rough to ride through and almost uncontrollable, although it employed ‘short arm’ and ‘long arm’ technology to cater for it.” ...“The MiG 19 was notorious for getting into spins without much warning due to it’s ‘adverse yaw’ attribute. And my most frightening episode also relates to this aspect.... ...During the very first merge, I was told by my section leader to do a hard 180 turn to the left. I remember going in to a hard turn and lighting my after burner. The next thing I remember is that is that the MiG flips out of the turn and starts spinning (this phenomenon was the result of adverse yaw attribute of the MiG-19)... ..."During one of the 1 Vs 1 combat training, I pulled vertically up without the afterburner. The airspeed bled so fast that before I could recover, my speed was approaching stalling speed. I knew fully well that if I allowed any yaw at the time of stalling, I will enter in a spin. So, I held my rudders neutral to avoid inducing any yaw. Also, I pushed the stick forward just enough to go to zero G – in a state of zero G the aircraft never stalls. Soon the speed went to zero and the MiG started sliding down while remaining in vertical position and the altimeter began to register a descent. I was thrilled that I was descending while in vertical position without stalling or spinning. My elation was rather short lived as I realised that I must recover without stalling or spinning. It was not possible to drop the nose forward or back words to the horizon. The only option was to yaw the MiG and let the nose drop sideways to the horizon. Mindful that if I induce a yaw the MiG will go in to a spin, I made sure that I maintained zero g (which does not allow the plane to stall) and induce a yaw just enough to let the nose drop sideway as done in a ‘Stall turn’ manoeuvre – which I had learnt in my basic training on the ‘Harvard the T-6G’. I also had to counter the roll that the yaw would induce by applying just enough opposite aileron. To my great delight and relief, the nose dropped sideways to the horizon and I could complete the recovery. The amazing thing was that the engines, which were very prone to stall, did not"

[FIXED INTERNALLY] F5 HUD dark green?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Quekel's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well God Dam. The very day the Mig 19 comes out and they break it's obvious opponent, the Tiger. I'm actually relieved to realize it is a bug and not the devs idea of glare proofing that only looks so bad on my combination of hardware. For a horrifying moment I at first thought this is a feature and just how the tiger HUD will look from now on OH GOD PLEASE NOOOO!!!!!!! It's unplayable in this state. -
Mig19B or F5E Faster?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in MiG-19 Farmer B
Thanks Zeus, I had actually seen that youtube vid and I thought it was testing the relative skill/experience of the pilots more than the planes. I asked him in the comments to just do one where they try to out turn each other on the deck and then race each other on the deck... to test the planes instead of the pilots. I expect it to be a close fight. I love these early jets with guns, burners and heaters. -
Been playing on he Cold War and Bush War Servers and some guys on there said the Farmer was faster than the Tiger. When I google it I find Mig19 1100km/h on deck and 1450km/h (M= 1.367) at 10000m https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/mig-19-specs.htm Which would make it just a little slower than the Tiger on the dack and gradually the tiger pulls further ahead at altitude. Has anybody tested the top speed on the deck and the top speed at altitude of Razbam's Farmer B?

NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Merker's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks for the replay heclak. I looked for logs and found no crash logs for today in any of the version save folders... I does look like my "release install" has been using open alpha save folder for many months... weird. -
NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Merker's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This mod looks great . I downloaded it and went to install it. I use release version but i have in saved games folder : DCS DCS Warthog DCS.openalpha DCS.openbeta DCS_AJS37 So I assume my release version uses the DCS/mods/aircraft structure. But when I do that the A4E does not show up on front menu. I tried putting it in Open Alpha and it now shows up when I start release version...but crashes when loading. I did get it to work in quick mission but every other mission i tried hangs on loading. It is strange that my release version of DCS uses the open alpha saved game folders ... anyone else notice the same thing or having the same problems. Any suggestions? -
Watching the F-14 trailer just reminds me that I really want a Flogger G.

That was a good read. Thanks Pepin. Looking forward to shooting down a two seater F14 with our Flogger G one day. Two birds with one stone.
