This is my dream ride for DCS Mig 23 MLA. with R24R/T Now I gotta wait two years for it to be made hahah The MiG-23 was the Soviet Air Force's "Top Gun"-equivalent aggressor aircraft from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. It proved a difficult opponent for early MiG-29 variants flown by inexperienced pilots. Exercises showed when well-flown, a MiG-23 could achieve favorable kill ratios against the MiG-29 in mock combat by using hit-and-run tactics and not engaging the MiG-29s in dogfights. MiG-23ML The early "Flogger" variants were intended to be used in high-speed missile attacks, but it was soon noticed that fighters often had to engage in more stressful close-in combat. Early production aircraft had actually suffered cracks in the fuselage during their service career. Maneuverability of the aircraft was also criticized. A considerable redesign of the airframe was performed, resulting in the MiG-23ML (L – lightweight), which made it in some ways a new aircraft. Empty weight was reduced by 1250 kg, which was achieved partly by removing a rear fuselage fuel tank. Aerodynamics were refined for less drag. The dorsal fin extension was removed. The lighter weight of the airframe resulted in a different sit on the ground, with the aircraft appearing more level when at rest compared to the nose-high appearance of earlier variants. This has led to a belief that the undercarriage was redesigned for the ML variant, but it is identical to earlier variants. The airframe was now rated for a g-limit of 8.5, compared to 8 g for the early generation MiG-23M/MF "Flogger-B". A new engine model, the R-35F-300, now provided a maximum dry thrust of 84 kN (18,800 lbf), and 127 kN (28,700 lb) with afterburner. This led to a considerable improvement in maneuverability and thrust-to-weight ratio. The avionics set was considerably improved as well. The S-23ML standard included Sapfir-23ML radar and TP-23ML IRST. The new radar was more reliable and a had maximum detection range of about 65 km against a fighter-sized target (25 km in look-down mode). The navigation suite received a new, much improved autopilot. New radio and datalink systems were also installed. The prototype of this variant first flew in 1976 and production began 1978. Soviet MiG-23MLA "Flogger-G" MiG-23MLA ("Flogger-G") The later production variant of the "ML" was redesignated the "MLA". Externally, the "MLA" was identical to "ML". Internally, the 'MLA' had an improved radar with better ECM resistance, which made co-operative group search operations possible as the radars would now not jam each other. It also had a new ASP-17ML HUD/gunsight, and the capability to fire improved Vympel R-24R/T missiles. Between 1978 and 1982, around 1,100 "ML/MLA"s were built for both the Soviet Air Force and export customers. As with the MiG-23MF, there were two different MiG-23ML sub-variants for export: the first version was sold to Warsaw Pact countries and was very similar to Soviet aircraft. The second variant had downgraded radar and it was sold to Third World allies

In-game difference between CBU-99 and MK-20?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Silvern's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I been using them. The CCIP is only accurate under a narrow attack profile. I've had better success with them when I start dropping a pattern early and keep dropping till late. lay a spread across the ccip -
Hey, just noticed this about the Sidewinder! :)
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I used to fly the Mig 21 against the F5 Tiger all the time my favorite attack was hi speed diving attack and then climb into the sun. If the Tiger tried to to follow me up he couldn't fire at me because the sun. I escaped enemy with heaters by climbing in to the sun a hundred times now. -
[FIXED] Radar STT lock jumping between targets
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to HWasp's topic in Bugs and Problems
I've had this happen too. It seemed to jump to a closer target that was closely aligned... -
I just found this thread...The problem it not fixed I tried to drop hi drag bombs today on beta and could not drop them at M waypoint in NAV mode.. Was driving me crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong... The bombs would not drop so I would circle around to try again and then notice that the way point had change to L1, even though I had made sure to change the CK dial from the setting that automatically changes the way to next waypoint when you fly over the current waypoint. On about the sixth attempt some of them did release, but not all. There is definitely something wrong here.

The Viggen Pitch Trim is Ridiculous
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to sawacs's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Have you guys tried using the attitude autopilot to trim the plane? My pitch trim does work but I almost never use it. I just click the attitude autopilot on and off again and it trims the plane immediately on all axis. Shame that guy who got a refund didn't know he could just double click the attitude autopilot... -
Something about u22a pod work method
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to IDontLikeBigbrother's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I was flying a flanker against FA-18 yesterday and I could see them at long range on my radar so I locked them up to see their position through the HUD. The lock was immediately broken and the contact on my radar looked like it turned on ECM with multiple fasle range markers. A moment later the ECM turned off and it was just a single contact again. I took that to be the Hornet EW system flashing ECM just long enough to break the lock and then turning it off again... Maybe the FA18 has opened up this ability for all the planes in DCS. I also noticed the Mirage has vapour over wings now at high AOA because this effect was introduced for the Hornet... -
How do I set up on cat?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
PS I have noticed that the afterburner never lights during Cat shot. I am wondering if this is not a bug. It's a feature? -
How do I set up on cat?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thanks for the replies and corrections. I just flew a mission over Iran, shot down enemy choppers and destroyed ground targets, returned to the fleet and landed on third attempt... I have rearmed and refueled and I'm sitting here thinking I don't wanna fall in the water now. So I thought I'd alt tab and check if anyone answered the thread. -
Hi I am enjoying the FA-18 and if I start a mission from the "runway" I am on the catapult and ready to go. I throttle up and the catapult launches me. But I want to start cold on the ramp and taxi on the the catapult and then launch. Every time I try this the catapult won't launch me. I just throttle up and slowly roll off the front of the boat.... after doing a cold start. How do I get the catapult to launch from a ramp start. Also how do I see the tacan of the carrier? or the ATC channel of it? When I click on an air field I see all the information such as TACAN but when I click on the F10 of the carrier I see none of that. So I can't ask for permission to take off. Maybe that is the problem?

The Hornet Release Day Anticipation Thread
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to FZG_Immel's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
11pm in Australia now...Day almost over. I know this happens every time, but I still checked first thing this morning with hope lol -
I have the release version installed. Do I just update it or do I have to go open beta to fly the Hornet?

The Hornet Release Day Anticipation Thread

Will FA-18 be open Beta or release ? I have the release version installed. Do I just update it or do I have to go open beta to fly the Hornet? -
It is debatable if the glass glare in the sun is realistic or not... The problem is that the Migs opponents, the F5, viggen, and harrier have perfectly clear canopies and the pilot can look directly at he sun with no problem spotting targets. It's hard enough flying the mig21 against those planes as the mig engine will flame out from neg G or over speed. The mig wing will stall if you pull to much alpha and the other planes have none of these challenges plus they have great RWR . I love the mig21 and enjoy the challenge but the glare needs to be reduced or the server will have very few people willing to fly the mig.

J-11A (Chinese Su-27SK) is coming to FC3
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Katmandu's topic in Shenyang J-11A
Will the J-11a Have data link with AWACS? I thought the F15 with fire and forget radar missiles was actually a balanced opponent for the SU27 with IRST, passive IR missiles and AWACS data link... But R77 AND datalink changes things somewhat.... -
Razbam DCS MiG-19P Development Update #2
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to OverStratos's topic in RAZBAM
Really excited about this jet. I love 2nd and 3rd gen stuff. I'm still upset about Razbam Mig 23 getting cancelled. Strange to see that the radar symbology for target above and target below is opposite to the Mig 21bis. Am I mistaken? I thought the Mig 21 has a "-" with a tail pointing up if the target is above and tail pointing down if target is below... -
We need to have a chat about memory...
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Stacker's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Wow It's working ! I just threw 16 gig page files at it and now it works in multiplayer ....better than it ever has. Loading speeds have tripled. I increased the page file from 12 gig to 16 gig on the HDD, made another 16 gig page file to the SSD and also made another 16 gig page file to the external drive. I can't believe it works so well now. Thanks to who ever said to make multiple 16 gig page files ! Does using an SSD for pagefile wear it out quicker?
