This may be a dumb question but if the USAF is being forced to keep the A-10, but cost is an issue. The USAF has also expressed interest in a dedicated COIN aircraft off and on through out the years. Why don't they just downgrade the A-10C to decrease the cost footprint, keep the A-10 PR advantages and get a cheap COIN ship?

Pretty much anything can do COIN and that's about the only foot hold the A-10 has today and to add insult to injury, that's just a niche. If the A-10 beats the F-35 in this competition, then I imagine it was done the same way the A-10 won over the A-7.

The F-35 isn't going anywhere, F-22 or not. The worst that'll happen is they shave a few off or slow production down to mitigate the cost.

To be fair, the F-4 did what the F-4 was meant to do pretty well, as long as it had "Navy" written on it.

KA-6 would be really cool and a nice unique selling point for the A-6, specially with so many planes that use the hose and drogue method coming to DCS.

Vietnam USAF 'gun' lesson over shadows the Navy 'training' lesson by a hell of a lot in this conversations. It's a shame since Navy pilots post Topgun did better than AF pilots even with their fancy gun.

I think he means this: If Razbam is doing the Beagle, it may be post pone til these planes are done. If I had to pick between the two, it's Harrier all day. I'd kill for a Av-8B Plus, sorry F-15. But as someone who's been waiting for an AH-1 since Wags mentioned in a podcast in early 2013... I understand.

They did at the end of the podcast where they announced the Harrier. They said something alongs the line of "Gr and maybe Av-8B Night attack" That said, it's looking to be more along the lines of Gr or Av-8B NA now. I doubt RAZBAM has fully committed yet
