  1. Thank you for all of your responses. The M15R5 has only 1 USB C with Display Port 1.4 (via adapter) in the same port. This single USB-C port has a max bandwidth of 10Gbps. There is no Thunderbolt since this is a Ryzen laptop. The Intel version M15R4 has 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 and it also states that it also has Display Port 1.4. How can those ports be the same? I could not find info on line. In my case - I can plug in the VR headset into the wall for power. However, does my Display Port 1.4 (from USB C) have a max bandwidth of 10Gbps? I don't get it. If it's true, It would not be Display Port 1.4. What am I missing? The M15R5 has HDMI 2.1 OUT (from Nvidia GPU) , so it does not help me with the VR Headset (It will help me to connect the laptop to my LG CX 55 though ). I know that my USB-C (DIsplay Port 1.4 ) is directly connected to the GPU.
  2. Hi everyone. The last time I flew in DCS World was in 2015 on the laptop I am typing on now (MSI GT 60 with GTX 780M from 2013) The GPU finally died. LOL I have ordered a new gaming laptop (Alienware M15 R5 with RTX 3070 (115Watt plus 10Watt = 125 Watt total), 16 DDR 3200 RAM, 1TB Nvme, Ryzen 5800H (45Watt), QHD 240Hz display. The laptop will be delivered in 2-4 weeks, so I can't test it now. I also have LG CX 55 inch OLED and will be using it as a monitor as well. It is nice since this new laptop has HDMI 2.1. I was looking at HP Reverb G2. I suppose that I won't be able to run DCS World at full resolution at 90Hz. How is the half resolution? For VR, I only care for DCS World, MS Flight Sim 2020, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous. I suppose I should wait until the RTX 4000 series or beyond in the laptop to be able to properly use it for these titles in VR? How is the state of the multiplayer in DCS World (PVP) in North America? I remember an excellent server - It was called Phoenix something and it only allowed 1st person view , which is awesome. I think that if I do not use VR in DCS World, I will be at competitive disadvantage for situational awareness. Please correct me if i am wrong. Thanks a lot for your responses!
  3. I don't know why my message did not get posted. Anyway, in regards to TacView. In my Users/User Name/SavedGames/DCS/Tracks/Multiplayer I only have 1 replay file from a long time ago. My multiplayer sessions are not saved in that folder (or any folder on my PC). I ran a search *.trk and those files are no where to be found. It is obvious that when I play multiplayer, those tracks are not saved on my PC for future replay. (So, there is nothing to replay in TacView) . I suppose that this is done by the server to discourage cheating.
  4. Hello everyone. Thank you for your responses. I used to have TacView Professional. However, it does not record multiplayer sessions. IronHand, I am good against the AI. I have used TacView extensively to set-up different scenarios and view how the missiles behave. AI is very predictable. He always launches at Rmax and does not follow up with additional missiles (AIM120C). I launch between Rmin and Rtr. I only launch at Rmax if I am using R27ER at a very high altitude (human opponents) to put the F15 on the defensive (I don't know if that is a good idea though, they are good at running away if they want to). The old video tutorials are good, but they teach to do a last ditch maneuver (bank aircraft 20 degrees, put the missile at 30 degrees and pull back on the stick when there is 1 light left on Beryoza). This maneuver works (sometimes). What i noticed on-line is exactly what IronHand is saying. Good F15 pilots are always extending (after firing) (they have to deal with my longer stick R27ER though). I wish i could see it on Tacview, but i cant record the multiplayer match. Even their technical support could not help me.
  5. Thank you guys for all responses. You bring a lot to the table. To "extent", what does it mean? Please pardon my ignorance. Can someone please write a hypothetical scenario of using R27ER correctly? For example, SU27 and F15C flying at 7000 meters over flat terrain (water). There is no place to hide, like the mountains. I am in a SU27. What I will try to do is to fire the first missile at the max range. I will bank right 55 degrees and descend to 4000 meters. After 15 seconds, I will fire another 27ER (at 35KM) or so, bank left (55 degrees) and climb to 5000 meters. At 25KM range I will shoot another 27ER and now bank right (55 degrees) and go into a steep descent to 1000 meters, and start a steep ascend vertically. During all this time I will have all my afterburners on and dropping flares and chaff (countermeasure dispense button - press it once). By doing all this and variations , I mostly get myself killed. If I am lucky, I take F15C down with me, but most of the time , I die. What I tried to do is to take MIG29S and try to even the game, but I find that R77 missiles are quite bad. In a MIG29S, I approach the target head on (same altitude, same scenario), and fire 1 R77 at 25KM and a second one at less than 20KM, then I turn around, hit the afterburners and try to go up and down and pray while I am doing all this :) I am certain that my tactics are wrong. Can someone please write the correct scenarios for that particular scenario?
  6. thank you guys for all the responses. Buckeye - I did not know that in F15C you can actually tell who you are targeting. No such thing on Russian planes. Closing the distance is a good idea, but how do I really do it? When I fire R27ER, I turn right, then turn left, go up and down. Is it what I am supposed to do in a head on battle? I understand that BVR is F15's specialty. Can someone give me a specific example what do to when flying a SU27 VS F15 head on? Should I fire from a distance first to put him on the defensive from long range? From a distance, I mean 40-50KM, knowing that my missile won't reach the target. Keep the responses coming guys :) I learn a lot from you
  7. Thank you Buckeye so much for your response. I hope more responses will follow :) If I move to the right and then to the left (provided the bandit F15 fired at me from 25KM, then I will loose a lot of energy myself). I also think that changing altitude (going low and then high) definitely helps to shake off the missile. However, I do not have much time (while guiding my own missile) to perform all those maneuvers. Buckeye, how do you think R77 (MIG29S) stack up against AIM120C. Is it much worse? MIG29S is much smaller than SU27 and F15C. Does this smaller target harder for AIM120C to hit? Thank you Buckeye again for your response. I hope that some pro SU27 or MIG29S pilot will respond as well :)
  8. Hello everyone. Thank you again for all your responses. This is Deckard again with all his questions LOL. My question is about tactics VS F15C using AIM120C. I know that I have to guide the missile to the target. I can only go left or right no more than 60 degrees from the target. I am also limited how much I can climb or descend. There is no way I can put the enemy missile at my 3 or 9 o'clock because I will loose my lock. I notice that F15 pilots, shoot AIM120C at 20-25KM (head on) at an altitude of 7000 meters. Then, they nose dive to 400 meters, do a 180 degree turn and simply fly away and might circle a little. Great tactic and it works. However, what do I do? I dive , put my nose to the right 55 degrees and bam, his AIM120C gets me. I can't turn around because I need to guide the missile. I was trying to bank the aircraft 20 degrees to the right and pull up on the stick when there is only 1 light remaining on RWS. This last ditch maneuver does not work well for me. I can also crawl on the ground at 400 meters and try my chances there. Should I fire from a greater distance (40-50KM) to put F15 on the defensive? Most of the time they use ECM, so this is not really happening, I suppose. I try to shoot my R27ER from a minimum range of 25KM, because anything before (30KM or more), the missile will never reach it's target. I never shoot missiles one after another. I shoot at 25-30KM, then a second one from 20KM, then 15KM. This tactic works if my missile reaches him first. However, because I need to guide that missile, once the bandit is dead (if I am lucky, his AIM120C gets me, because I have not time to maneuver at that point. Can someone give me a correct method of guiding R27ER while avoiding the AIM120C? (they always shoot at me :) ) So , I need to avoid the missile. If the bandit is using ECM and I did not burn through him yet ( should I shoot in HOJ?) I am not sure if R27ER can do that, but I know that AIM120C can. Thank you so much for your responses. Please share your tactics with me.
  9. I am trying to upload that video on youtube and give you guys a link, but it takes forever. The video I almost 1 GB (high quality). I might try to upload it late night. Anyone else with EOS tactics? I have seen some great Russian drivers using it very effectively, I just don't know how to myself ...
  10. Hello everyone. I have been playing on-line last night (104 Phoenix server) and after I shot down one plane and went low (450 meters) in MIG29, I spotted a plane (by using EOS) coming toward me at an altitude of 7500 Meters. The range was 30KM (pretty far I suppose). I gained altitude and shot him (R77). Something exploded in front of me. I shot another missile and he was in flames. I used MSI afterburner to record a video and when I played it back frame by frame. I saw that when I shot my R77 missile (his missile was already in the air). My missile hit his missile right in front of my nose! No damage to the aircraft. It seems that my missile hit his missile and kept on flying to kill him and it did ( my second missile did not kill him). I got the points for my kill. Wow LOL. I do not really know what happened (TACVIEW does not record multiplayer sessions). Second example. I was at 2000 meters and I spotted a plane at over 8000meters (SU27) contrailing by using EOR again. I gained the altitude, got behind him and shot him down with R-73 ( 2 missiles), then I shot him with my guns. I got the credit for killing him with my guns. OK, my question is especially for Russian plane drivers. What is the effective use of EOS? I know it does not distinguish between friend/foe and it is better to be behind the plane and if the bandit have afterburners on - it has longer reach. Can anyone teach some tactics please? Some good Russian plane drivers use EOS a lot and I would like to know their experiences. Someone told me to put a bandit on 90 degrees of my nose and keep doing that until I do not have any emissions on my RWS, then get behind him and shoot him down. I seem not to be able to do it (I tried). Also I have been told that if my radar is off and the bandit is on my 90 degrees (F15), he cannot see me until 35KM range. Is this true? Thank you very much :)
  11. Thank you so much for your response Flankentrator and everyone else :)
  12. I forgot to mention. TWS mode. I rarely use it. I know some people like TWS 2 mode on MIG29S (to lock up 2 targets). I think it is too advanced for me at this point. I use SCAN mode, lock the target , then unlock it and fly in it's direction, unless he disappears, that's one of the reasons of my PRF questions. I like technical stuff. I never take ECM in Su27, and in MIG29S. I was told that once I notch , I need to turn off the ECM or when the bandit launched the missile. I only turn on ECM when I know that "he sees" me. I never broadcast with ECM from far away. As a matter of fact, I began to fly with my radar off and look at my Beryoza on the bottom right of the screen to see if anyone is nearby and turn on my radar when they are less than half the circle away Half the circle is 100 km. Please share your methods of scanning for targets. Thank you!
  13. Thank you , thank , thank you everyone! Yes, I have a fascination with PRFs lol. Someone (I am going to leave the person's name out since I do not know if that person minds to be mentioned) in on-line multiplayer. That guys is really good, flying MIG29S He said that I should use High PRF when the bandit is low to spot him or burn through his ECM quicker. Keep on Auto, if I see the bandit already. Switch to Med within 25KM and the target is maneuvering. During my own testing in mission editor, a SU27 will burn through F15C ECM at 42 KM, regardless of PRF. My (again) lol question is. Auto VS Med PRF. I lost the bandit and he is close (within 5-25KM). Will Auto pick him up better than MED? The bandit is also maneuvering. During on-line engagements, I use mostly Hi, I lock him and then he disappears. I start looking for him and change PRF to Auto , MED and back to High and at the same time (keep my range setting at 25) change elevation up and down while waiting 2 seconds before I change something else (also, I change the azimuth left, center and right ). I only fly Russian planes. I would switch to IRST to see if "he" shows up. I do to vertical scan (when I am desperate and he has a lock on me and he "should me there, but I don't see him" . once in vertical scan I hold the "lock" button instead of tapping it. Also, I noticed that once I am in vertical scan mode (button 3), if I press "I" and turn on my radar, my scan range (lock) drastically decreases. Again, this is from my testing off- line. When I use IRST , I press (2) and try to find the bandit. I use it more than the vertical scan. (this applies to bandit being very close and I am panicking). Now, close engagements - does Auto PRF takes longer to detect a target VS High PRF and Med? Do I sacrifice the acquisition time or just loose 25% of range? I have been told by the same person on-line to "leave my range at 25KM with the CTRL + key". Once I am close to the bandit, should I decrease the expected range to 10KM? I know that range works with conjunction with elevation setting. Can someone walk me (Russian planes) through their search patters for bandits? I mean, give examples of their personal experience with working with the radar. I know I am driving everyone nuts with the questions LOL and I did not even get into BVR yet :) Thank you everyone for all the responses. I noticed that the best Russian plane fighters (highest kills) is by MIG29S. F15C dominates the sky. Only a couple of people fly MIG29S good enough to put up a fight. I rarely see a SU 27 on top of the chart, it is mostly F15C. You might ask , why am I flying the Russian planes though. I was born in Tbilisi and I know a lot of the places on the map in game and moved to US in 1993. You can call me Russian-American. I like to be the underdog as well and an iconoclast (not like everyone else). I tried the F15C for a short while. Very fast , can outrun anyone, but I cant maneuver in it and that sound "overG" drives me nuts. I like the sounds in Russian planes better. Mig29S is a very sexy plane :)
  14. thank you - more questions :) thank you guys for all the responses. Jack....I think that changing azimuth coverage in Russian planes, turns the antenna to the left, center, and to the right. Does the antenna physically turn left or right? From the Flaming Cliffs 3 Manual " The scan pattern can be slewed discretely through three azimuth positions, center – right – left. " " Orient the radar azimuth scan zone in the direction of the target. On Russian fighters, the azimuth scan zone moves discretely and has three positions: central ±30 degrees, left –60 - 0 degrees and right 0 - +60 degrees. If the target is out of the central ±30 degrees zone, then it is required to move the scan zone to the left or right with the [RShift-,] or [RShift-/] keys. I am still confused about what this means. Does the antenna physically turn, or it changes the scan pattern (so when you turn the radar left or right, is scans more space, but it takes longer to scan that space) From the manual again " To search for both high and low targets aspect, use the AUTO sub-mode. Using AUTO however incurs about a 25% reduction in detection range compared to the HI (PPS) and MED (ZPS) sub-modes. " High aspect - does it mean that the bandit is above me and low aspect - the bandit is below me? From the manual " High PRF (HPRF), which provides the longest detection range against approaching forward-hemisphere targets, is indicated by ППС (HI), whereas medium PRF (MPRF) for receding rear-hemisphere targets is indicated by ЗПС (MED). In АВТ (ILV) mode, high and medium PRFs are interleaved on alternate bars of the radar scan pattern. This provides all-aspect target detection at the expense of a 25% reduction in maximum range. " Does this mean that ABT mode's limitation is only for the range reduction? (not how quickly it can detect the bandit) What does "rear-hemisphere target" mean? The bandit is behind me? I can't see him on the radar , if he is behind me. From manual " Changing the PRF is used to increase the radar’s sensitivity when detecting targets flying at different aspect angles. High PRF is used to detect targets flying towards your aircraft (high aspect), medium PRF is used for targets with low closure rate or you are behind. In the default operation mode, the radar cycles between high and medium PRF to provide all target aspect detection. " This brings a question... when do I use Med PRF VS Auto PRF? Thank you all for all the responses! :)
  15. Thank you very much for your response. OBA < 20 . Does this mean that the bandit it less than (the angle of antenna and the location of the bandit relative to the antenna ( antenna is at the nose of the plane) 20<OBA<90 Does this mean that the bandit is between 20 and 90 degrees of the nose. Total coverage 90-20 = 70 degrees Is Mid better than Auto when the target is beaming or maneuvering (between 10 and 40 KM) 90< OBA <180 means that the coverage is the widest (180-90) is 90 degrees I am a little confused. Please clarify... Thank you Another question...Does Med acquire targets quicker than Auto? (if the bandit it close , less than 40km and I have no idea where he is). Lets say, I am turning around in a circle and trying to find the bandit who is between 10KM and 40KM, do I use Auto or Med PRF?
  16. Hello everyone. I have asked the same question in one of my other threads. I have gotten great responses, but I still have some questions about it. I have set up a mission in Mission Editor. SU27 (me) VS F15. Head on. I am flying at 10500 Meters and 7000 Meters for the F15. The High PRF has a quicker acquisition of the plane (If the plane is not using a jammer). If the plane is using a jammer, then the "burn through" is the same distance for High PRF, Medium PRF and Auto PRF. (40 KM) As the target approaches, its marker slowly goes down from the top to the bottom of the HUD and slowly disappears after up to 8KM. I do not loose the target using different PRFs. My question is , at close ranges (40KM or less), does PRF make any difference? It is for head on, tail , or maneuvering target. Another question, once the target is close (lets say , 25 KM or less) and maneuvering, and I loose the lock on my radar, what is the best PRF to use to reacquire the target (to find him). If I leave PRF on Auto (does it take longer to find a target at close range?) Does the interleaved signal takes (longer) to scan? I find it at close range , if I have no idea where the target is, I switch to IRST by pressing "O" and I have better luck for finding a target. Thank you everyone for all your responses :)
  17. Hello everyone, I have player around quite a bit to set up scenarios in Mission Editor. I fly SU27 and Mig29S. I set up a head on engagement VS F15C. I tried loading up the F15 plane with different missiles and I tried every single difficulty. The F-15C computer controlled pilot shoots only 1 AIM-120C missile and a very long range. I do not have to do anything (almost) at all to dodge that missile. How can I make F-15C computer pilot have shoot me with multiple missiles at different ranges? The reason I want to do is , because in on-line multiplayer, there are a lot of engagements (head on vs F15C pilots). Thank you very much in advance :)
  18. I would like to expand on the question regarding the range of AIM120. What is the range of R77 and R27-ER? at 3000 meters (altitude) or any other altitude. I mean, an effective range where I can actually shoot down a plane?
  19. Thank you Rich so much for your response. You have clarified a lot of questions for me :)
  20. Please note: I just posted the same question under MIG29S and SU27 thread. I double post this because I hope more people will see it :) I am sorry for the confusion. I am a noob. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for all your previous responses. I am on vacation and I have stayed up all night playing. I did not go to sleep yet... I am so hooked lol. I have more questions .... 1. IF I have ECM on and they lock on me in HOJ (AIM120C) or R27-ER (can that missile do that?), once the missile is in flight, I turn off my ECM, what does it do? Does the missile have to reacquire my plane ? 2. Its the other way around. I fly with ECM off and once they lock me or launch me, I turn it off. Does it do any effect of any of the missiles? I am talking about AIM120C and R27-ER 3. I was flying a MIG29S, I had ECM on, Full lock on F15 at 15KM, R77 armed...No launch Authorization ??? The bandit had ECM on and also a friendly with ECM on close by. Why did not I have a launch Authorization? Is it because of all the ECM distortion? I pressed ALT+W to launch and my missile missed at 15KM and I was a toast. 4. What is the real difference between R-73 and R27ET? In mission editor, head on with F-15C, I get launch authorization from 5-6KM (for R73) and about 6-8KM from R27ET. Is this the real difference? Also, I think that R73 flies better than R27ET. Please share your knowledge. 5. Chaff is for radio guided missiles. So, If I only want to protect myself against those missiles, do I need flares? 6. Once I get close to a bandit (15-10KM), sometimes I loose him. What is the best method to require him (lock him) if I don't have a visual. Do I go to Vertical scan and just keep on pressing LOCK, do I turn on IRST at this range (I fly MIG29 and SU27), Do I keep BVR on Scan? Do I Select HI, MED or Interleaved? 7. I find TWS not useful, once there is a jammer ( and on-line, there are so many of them, then it does not work). Even if there is no jammer around - TWS (snaps the target and goes to full lock once the range is permitting), However, TWS does not provide me with anything than SCAN does. I know that manual states otherwise, but I do not see any practical use for TWS. Please enlighten me. 8. Since I often have to look at RWS on the bottom right corner of the cockpit (for Russian planes). Is there a way to map this view to one key? This way , I would not have to look around the cockpit with a HAT switch, or with a mouse in the left hand, which is awkward. Thank you so much The reason I am asking so much about ECM is because I like to fly MIG29S. It comes with ECM for free LOL. So I might as well know how to use it. (I like MIG29S for rate of climb and it's R77 missiles). I don't like it for is low fuel and it does not carry many missiles. 8. Helmet Mode - I find it useful in MIG 29 with R77, because unlike R73, or R27-ER(in Su 27), you can launch them from most of the angles in close range. However, (I don't have TRACK IR and I use HAT Switch to look around). It is quite slow to move the view in helmet mode) I can use a mouse in the left hand, but it is awkward. So, I find that Vertical Scan is the most useful. Just point the plane where you think the bandit might be or not, and click until you get a lock. These are my opinions from my limited experience. Please share your thoughts... thank you

  22. Thank you guys for al the responses. The Flankentrator videos are awesome. Thank you very much. I just did not have time to view them yet. Flankentrator wrote "As a rule of thumb, use ECM when the threat is relatively far away because otherwise, you may well end up unaware of a semi-active being fired at you, or even worse, unaware of an active about to hit you, not to mention, being team-killed." I have set-up a practice mission in Mission Editor. Head on. MIG29S VS F15C, 80 KM apart. 1st time, I had ECM off the whole time. F15C launched (AIM120C) and I saw the missile acquired me . With ECM off, the result was the same. There was no difference in terms of my awareness of the missile. I received exactly the same warning tones and a lock. The same is true when using ECM on and OFF against SU27 with E27-ER. No difference. I get the lock on with ECM on and off (the whole flight). What is going on ? I have read parts of the official Flaming Cliffs 3 manual again and there were some parts that I have missed. They say that once someone launches a missile at you, you should turn on your ECM because advanced missiles like AIM120 and R77 have a HOJ capability , but they fly at a worse path. I suppose that it only works before the "burn through" range. I figure that if I leave ECM on after they launched, I am not loosing anything, since their missiles will have a "Worse" trajectory to fly. Is there a downside to this tactic? Thank you everyone for your responses.
  23. Thank you , i have more questions :) Regarding the ECM. So, I turn it off before the bandit launches the missile and keep it off? If I am far away, by using ECM , I illuminate the sky and tell everyone where I am ? Is this correct? What does it mean to trash the shot? I keep the ECM off, once the bandit launched, I turn it on and keep it on for 7 seconds and then turn it off? Could you please give me a detailed example of the correct use of ECM? I understood about the range, thank you. Now, as the target closes (I look at Su27 RWS - on the lights), do I decrease the range with CTRL - ? In my limited practice, I only find that increasing range helps to find a bandit. When is a good time to decrease the range? Thank you :)
  24. Thank you guys for all your responses. SFJackBauer... thank you for the website, very helpful! IronHand..You say that you turn on your ECM on for 7 seconds to ruin his shot. Do you turn on your ECM before or after he launched? Also, are not you becoming a homing beacon for R-27ER? What is the distinction (in terms of becoming a homing beacon with ECM, for R27ER and AIM 120C? For Su27 and Mig29, in close combat, what is more useful: number 3 key - vertical scan or number 4 key - Bore sight, or the Helmet. For example, the bandit passed me head on and now we are both turning and I have lost him. What is the best mode to be in at this point? Also from this video It is a Su27 VS F15 and once the AMRAAM launched, the guy teaches to put the nose of the airplane 30 degrees to the missile, bank the plane 10 to 20 degrees and once the strength signal of the missile is next to the last bar (on RWS Su27), pull back gently on the stick and the missile will miss you. Is this helpful? Does it work? I set it up in the Mission Editor, but no matter what, the computer fires only 1 missile at long range and this method works. In Multiplayer , I do not think it will work against multiple missiles Sorry guys for all the questions..
  25. Thank you Robin Hood for your response. When the bandit is inside 40KM and you exchange missiles (at 30KM and 20KM) and let's say you both survive the engagement. After hard maneuvering, you loose the bandit. Would you switch to MED PRF when you look for him , or would you keep it on ILV? I am a noob and in the heat of the battle, most of the time I have no idea where the bandit is after we exchange missiles and turn and twist , unless I have a lock on him. In regards to the search range. By altitude, is this true, if you are flying very high and looking for a bandit below you? Do you ever set the range to 5 or 10KM? If yes, for what circumstances? It is a little hard for me to visualize the radar cone, I wish there were some diagrams with pictures. What is your personal use of ECM? I was flying on multiplayer and saw that most people "illuminate" the whole sky and I see them from far away.
