  1. Thanks Scooternutz. Now I can commit to buying the switch panel. Cheers!
  2. Is the software from Saitek or is it third party? Could you please provide a link? Thanks~
  3. I love getting these new letters!! It's exciting to say the least and I'm pumped. Hawk's coming out, and the Flanker update... :drunk: This is flight sim Nirvana and a Merry Winter it will be!
  4. Absolutely worth it. Since joining DCS 2 months ago, I've experienced the best flight simming and tons of joy at learning the systems of each module. Beta or not, these modules are the real deal and fantastic! Cheers.
  5. Thanks for the tip. The motherboard and CPU have been RMA'd and approved for replacement. I should receive them today after work. Faulty board.
  6. Very nice! I'll be building something similar and using Helios too.
  7. Here's an update: So I ordered and received my new kit. After assembly I was just too excited. I hit the power button and the board powered up...but... np post. no beeps, no video, no bios, no nothing. I thought maybe I need a new PSU as I elected to keep my Corsair HX850, because it's still got 3.5 years of warranty left. So I bought a new PSU and waited about a week because the order got duffed somewhere on the vendor side. Got the new PSU, installed cleanly (cable management) hit the power button... and... NOTHING again. The board lights up but no post, no video, no beeps, no nothing. I submitted an RMA for the MB and Processor which has been a week today. I received email confirmation that my RMA has been approved for replacement and no I wait some more until the new pieces arrive. So going on a month now with no computer. Just wanted to give an update because I've been too frustrated to post anything until now. If all goes well and I get a running computer I'll post some pics because I also went with a Corsair watercooler and it looks neat and clean when all is installed. Cheers (and cross your fingers for me)!
  8. I want to thank everyone who chimed in to help me with my latest build. There was a lot of research and soul searching put into this purchase. Value was not really a concern for this build because the money was available. Without further adu... The gear I pulled the trigger on (overnighted of course) -- Mobo: EVGA x99 Classified GPU: ZOTAC GTX 980 AMP! Omega CPU: i7-5820K RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4 2666 Quad kit SSD: Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB SATA 6GB Cooler: Corsair H105 Extreme I'm pretty sure this thing will be a beast. Thanks for all your input. I changed some pieces based on the posts here in this thread. I'll let you know how it turns out. Cheers!
  9. Thanks Demon. I should have known better, but this is the first time I've had a static/shorting issue with a PC. I guess I was due, and I won't be as wreckless next time. and I WILL be getting a wrist strap. Andyour right...I disassembled the PC, looked it over thoroughly, looed good, but no joy after it was reassembled. same issue. Lesson learned
  10. Going to do that tonight with a friend so I don't get too aggravated!:P
  11. Here are my choices. When I have good luck with a brand I tend to stick with it hence the EVGA stuff. I know I won't be disappointed with either setup. Just thinking about the future and I'm keeping the Corsair HX850 PS: Mid Rig: Mobo: EVGA Z97 Classified GPU: EVA GTX 970 CPU: i7-4790K RAM: Gskill Trident 16GB DDR 3 2400 Dual kit SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256 Hi-End Rig: Mobo: EVGA x99 Classified GPU: EVGA GTX 980 SuperClocked CPU: i7-5930K 6 Core RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4 2666 Quad kit SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256 Thanks all. This has been enlightening and fun. Cheers!
  12. I'm pretty sure it's something on the mobo. I did a thorough cleaning last Thursday and it hasn't been right since. Random reboots, random blue screens that sometimes just lock lock up and stays displayed other times it blue screens fully crashes then reboots. Can't even reinstall Windows because it just locks up at random points during install. I've even switched the bios (have 3) but no luck. I think you're right. Been a solid machine until I decided to clean it out. I'm thinking dust and maybe static might have shorted something. I need to look at the capacitors too. I'm sure the SSD is ok since it does the same thing with the ssd or my spinner drive in or out. I was not planning a major build for another year or two, but I have no computer to fly with right now. And I had just received my Cougar MFD's That's when I decided to clean things out. Haven't been able to use my MFD's yet :/ I live in a 160 year old dusty house. My thoughts on 32 GB of RAM is that at 8GB I was getting out of memory errors if I tabbed out of DCS to an open browser. Plus DCS has a lot of resources to load and seems ram intensive. I was thinking about giving it all the ram I could and let it load everything it wants into ram then it would all be there in memory and perform very well like a ram disk. A RAM disk may be redundant with an ssd. but that's what I was thinking. The main reason I was looking at the latest hardware is I have a employee computer purchase program at work which I can spend up to $2500 and pay it back over 2.5 years at around $30-$40 a paycheck right off the top. It's a great program and I won't miss the money of the top of my check. I thoroughly intended to starts OC'ing my current rig to squeeze more out of it which is like an upgrade in itself. But then GPU's are now PCIe 3.0 and my mobo is 2.0. There is only so much testing I'm able to do so it's been a process of elimination but the failures are random and at random times. Swapped ram sticks, changed ram slots, unplug everything usb except KB & mouse etc. And then there's the EDGE question of how will my current rig would perform, the question of muti-core support and so on. I've been building gaming rigs for years, but after I build one I don't keep up with the current trends in hardware until I need to build another one. Once I have a new rig, I can focus on deeper trouble-shooting and with luck I can use the broken rig as a dedicated DCS server if I can get it fixed. I don't have the cash to buy one piece at a time so the computer loan gets me up and running quickly. Already been a week without a computer and DCS. I'm having withdrawals...:joystick: I'll post my latest list soon for a "Medium" (z97 i7-4790K) rig and a "hi-end" (X99 DDR 4) rig. If were not for the computer loan through work I would be totally hosed:pilotfly: P.S. Thanks for all the input and let me know what you think. Great forum here and I appreciate all the "eyes".
  13. Thanks thanks for the advice Neuwb. It really helps:thumbup:
  14. Hey all- Take a gander at this: Mobo: EVGA X99 Classified CPU i7-5820K CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 2666 SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB Graphics: EVGA GTX 970 Core Clk-1190 And this is still a few hundred less than my above, first list. My first goal with this build is to make DCS run like glass. But more importantly, I want to make sure I can handle EDGE. ANd like I said before, I'm computer-less until I get the new machine built. No Flying, no DCS, No Mig-21... Sad, sad days. :/ Gonna be a long week and a half.
  15. Thanks for more info/ideas. The main reason I was thinking 32 GB RAM was because @ 8GB i was getting an "Out of memory error" if I had a browser open at the same time DCS was open. The thing that scared me about Haswell/2011-v3 is DDR4 is ridiculous right now. I'm going to fine tune my list some more and will report back. Thanks! :)
  16. Ok... Thanks a ton. Decision made. I suppose I could run my GTX 580 on the new build until the cards release.
  17. Ok...good to know. You and Chiclidfan saved me a bunch O'money. Thank you  Any idea on release date for for the 970 FTW's?
  18. Yes, it's cheaper than the 780 Ti, but the 970 seems out of stock at the Egg. From what I've read the 970 Performs as well if not better than the 780 and cooler too. I still have time to change the order. But If you're saying I should go with the 970... That was my first choice. Maybe I'll have to wait for them to be in stock or just order from someplace else. GTX970 > 780 Ti correct? Thanks much!
  19. Hey all, my computer died last Friday so now I'm forced to upgrade a little sooner than I wanted. Does anyone see an issue with the gear below outside of them NOT being the latest generation of hardware. I always second guess myself when I build a new machine. Any input is welcome. I have no DCS until I buy new...AAaaarrgh!!! Thank you! :helpsmilie: Mobo: EVGA X79 Dark Video: EVGA GTX 780Ti Classified CPU: i7 4820K IvyBridge E 3.7 GHz SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB RAM: GSkill DDR 3 2400 32 GB
  20. Fantastic news! Alas I have to wait for payday eeek. Even if I can't pre order I'm still excited for this release! Thank you for all your hard work!!! :pilotfly:
  21. oooo... I love the Foxbat too!! :joystick:
  22. I have to throw my hat in the ring for the Mig-29 or SU-33. I love those canards on the 33.
  23. Thanks HILOK! It did help my decision and I'll go the Leo Bodner route. Been hearing about his controllers for a long time. Now's the time to do it.
  24. Greetings... Can anyone tell me if DCS works with a RP48, a T8 and the LGT-II? It's a bit of an investment to find out it doesn't work and have to return them and get a refund. Thanks!
