  1. There's a video showing the Viggen doing low level photorecon RF-8 style at 2:40 It would be cool to have photo recon as a gameplay feature. Like the first mission of a campaign being a low level run on an airbase seeing which hangars/revetments to hit and getting the snaps back to base safely giving you the upper hand in the 2nd strike mission.
  2. I'm anti-war in general. I'd like to get a glimpse of what it would actually be like partly for insight, part morbid curiosity. And nukes wouldn't be high up on my list. If I had a magic lamp the first rub would be archaic low-level photorecon flights or something anoraky like an ELINT multicrew plane.
  3. Whole lot of PVO interceptors in or planned for this game for this confused morality about nukes in a videogame. Like do the devs think it promotes nuke lust and some DCS junkie is gonna recreate the film Broken Arrow? If anything simulated nuclear warfare e.g. CMANO gives you the heebie jeebies and drives home that 'not to play' is the winning move. It's basically impossible to glorify or defend nuclear war in any form of media, with doomsday films you had Threads which was clearly anti-nuke but By Dawn's Early Light which had a patriotic vibe the message was about the futility. If you're anti-nuke it would be conducive to put them in DCS proper, raise the hackles and educate people.
  4. Man, if they could do Vietnam with just a Thud for the US and an SA-2 sim for the NVA to start off with that would provide a lot for players to work with. Realistic explosions and shrapnel would really make for an amazing ground attackin' experience
  5. People keep assuming that the Phantom is being blocked by the rights holders because VEAO said an NDA was preventing them from speaking about why they can't do it. I'm guessing the NDA is from ED and it's because ED or another 3rd party got dibs on the Phantom. RE: MiG-21 variants - Would there be a problem with a purely cosmetic cockpit makeover for the BiS to make it at least look and function somewhat like a period accurate variant? Could you not just paint over the radar for the -F variant but keep the gunsight rangefinding? Or for the -PF variant just use the same radar but with the wonky looking scope? Plus things like restricting it to Atoll missiles instead of Aphids. I seem to remember Cobra saying other MiG-21 variants ain't happening because it would have to be completely remade - I don't know if it's because the above ideas are actually unfeasible or would simply go against the realism ethic. But North Vietnam getting souped up -bis engines could compensate for the fact that no one on the US team is going to be abiding by that stupid visual ID ROE. I think a jury-rigged variant is better than just the plain BiS for Vietnam, maybe it could be outsourced to community modders? I do wonder how DCS is going to deal with theater-relevant variants in general, seeing as how it isn't financially sound to sell them separately or make new ones from the ground up for free and add them as a package for existing modules. I would be completely fine with corner cutting. EDIT: Just realized the rights changed hands for the -21, wrong forum!
  6. If I barrel roll in the MiG-29A/MiG-29S (G variant not tried) at a low level, the ground looks like it's 'skipping', basically it moves in a kind of slideshow fashion. Much more noticeable during a barrel roll than a simple roll. Bug is not present in anything but the MiG-29.
  7. If you do a big helo please make one with ASW capability, so even if you don't add it in the initial release it can be added in via update later.
  8. A late 80's Fulda Gap scenario would suit many of the FC3 aircraft, good what-if movie here: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yXTCEZkjQ4&index=1&list=PLxE37Hj7k368apDMeLEdZGEumnh1cj59Y[/ame]
  9. We need a built-in mumble type system with squads if we want multicrews where pubbies can just jump in together. Rendering them only useful to clans or people who know each other will make the module sell less and its not necessary. Pubbies in Project Reality were able to jump into multicrew vehicles that relied on one crewman giving orders to the other that required quick execution in the middle of combat and it worked.
  10. Sorry, I didn't mean an actual pronounced flicker. I'm aware of videos creating a flicker effect. I meant slight fluctuations like you see in those old school ground radar screens or analog oscilloscopes. I noticed Leatherneck mentioned implementing 'Custom shaders for enhanced visual fidelity (e.g. CRT Screen representation)' here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=146655 wondering if this has anything to do with what I mean. EDIT: Think i've confused people with misuse of the words infinity and flicker. I meant more 'in your face' and suggested an unnoticable flicker as a way to make the light look more glowy or something.
  11. What about the older ones though? Wouldn't there be a difference between later and earlier generation HUDs?
  12. Is there any chance that we could get a more 'analog' or 'cathode ray' look to HUDs? And make it look more like its projected onto glass instead of in your face? To me it seems superimposed at the moment. Could this be done with picture-in-picture or just making the light fuzzy or adding subtle movement? Also I would like to see something similar with the glass cockpits. I'm not even sure how pronounced this effect is in the real thing because images can deceive, but if it can be done I would see it as much more immersive and make the HUDs look as cool as the rest of the cockpit.
  13. Yes. And make the voices all crackly. That's what they did with Squad and its really cool.
