  2. Hi Guys, I was wondering if there is a program that acts like a black box, and can evaluate and plot various aircraft parameters against time or each other, in a similar way to FLIGHTLAB, for example. Thanks for your help :)

For all the Czech and Slovak fans, there is a new book called Lietanie na MiG-21 v spomienkach pilotov, that was baptised at SIAF 2016 this weekend and for anyone that likes to fly the MiG-21 in DCS is an absolute must have. Lots of great stories, experiences of the pilots, pictures and documents. Sorry for the spam for fans of all the other nationalities.

  6. For all the guys that might be interested, there's a post on the MILVIZ site as to why they are not developing for DCS right now. Sometimes you just wish that everybody in this small industry got on and worked together. However, it's not always the case. It would be nice to get ED's view on the matter, learning from the Virtual Patriots' issue with their L-39. Anyways, here goes, sorry if this has already been posted somewhere: Hi, This is to let all of our members why we do not support DCS and what they should do about it: We are not doing DCS for a variety of reasons but the main one is that Igor refuses to let us in. Now, he has his reasons but... mostly, it boils down to pride. I treated him like an equal and he didn't like that. Forget for the moment that, at one time, I was in charge of over 280 people as a Creative Director at a major game studio so I KNOW what it means to deal with all kinds of situations (internally... always been bad at the outside world)... As an aside, MV has 28 people of which 22 are full time. That's a pretty big team so you'd think that we would be a shoo in. However, since then, all contacts from us have gone unanswered. ALL of THEM. So, if you want MV to do DCS, contact them and ask them. Post on the forums, PM and or Email him. That's the ONLY way DCS will ever happen. Thank you. From now on, all requests for DCS will be summarily deleted or ignored or both. KC
  7. This would be a day 1 buy for me. If you think about it, the PFM is completed, the model is completed, and the cockpit is completed minus the screens. Although it's a lot of work including all the switches, I believe that it would be an excellent opponent for all the complex Western fighters in the works at the moment.
  8. I don't agree too much with your points, but what I would make free, as others have noted, would be the door gunners in the Huey, Rio in the F-14, possibly the flight engineer in the Mi-8. You have to take into account that the development of each module is extremely expensive.
  9. Fly under and behind the tanker, and slowly begin to get closer once you have permission. On the bottom of the KC-135 you have two rows of lights which show you how high/low and forward/back you are. Aim to keep the light in each one in the middle. The ideal position of the boom is when you are on the green. Orange is fine, but red means that you're too close to the tanker and risk collision or too far and risk disconnection. Try to be in one spot as the boom operator in DCS is fairly slow and it takes him a while to connect. This is possibly the most frustrating part. Once you are connected, keep the boom in the green and the lights in the middle. Hope this helps at least a little bit. As far as stick movements go, I have my axes curved to about 22, so fine stick movements are fine.

For the peeps living in the UK, may I recommend this month's issue of the 'Air International' magazine, there is an excellent article about the MiG-21 in Bulgarian service, to commemorate their retirement. There is also an interesting interview with a pilot who talks about the tactics that they used with the MiG-21bis against US F-16's and F-15's.

  13. Actually the thrust to weight ratio is lower for the ZA version due to the increased weight of the aircraft :)

  15. Hi, You can find good documentation by reading the procedures section in the manual, it describes everything nicely, including numbering each switch. Tutorials are good too for learning how to start up and fly. Once you learn the start up procedure, it doesn't take more than two minutes from cold and dark to taxiing. No worries, if there's anything else, then ask :)
  16. My tips for a nice landing in the -21. 1. Get yourself on a relatively long final at about 500km/h in clean configuration. 2. Gear down, first notch of flaps, let the plane slow down to 400km/h, but not less. 3. Maintain this until short final. Full flaps. Try and maintain 400, but speed can drop down to about 380. Don't drop below this speed. 4. Passing the threshold at around 360-370 km/h. 5. This is when it becomes different from other planes. The MiG-21 has 'fans' which blow fast air over the top of the wings to make more lift. Do NOT idle the engine, but only decrease power. I decrease the power to about halfway between idle and the power setting I had on final maintaining speed. 6. Touchdown. 7. Only now, idle the engine and deploy the parachute. 8. Repeat, repeat, repeat. :D
  17. 100% it's more difficult than modelling the glider itself. But then again, once it would be done, you could fly along the ridge on a windy day in a MiG-21 on idle :) These things don't just work for gliders :)
  18. I think that it depends whether the weather engine is up to it. I don't know the details of the DCS engine, but for gliders you need a much more powerful engine than for fighter jets. It needs to simulate ridge lift, thermals, etc. etc. etc. to make it enjoyable and allow the pilot to stay in the air. I agree, gliders would be awesome, and especially for the Caucasus.
  19. Does anybody have any tips for good areas for low flying on the new terrain? I pretty much know my way down each valley in the Caucasus, but the NTTR is still a bit new. My top so far is going over the Hoover Dam and down the Colorado River. Is there anything better that I'm missing?
  20. My favourite aircraft, except the MiG-21 and L-39, are FC3 planes, so I would definitely love the idea. But you have to take into account how long each part of the development process lasts. Even for a simplified aircraft with a non clickable cockpit, the user base wants a nice flight model, since flight dynamics are something that puts dcs apart from FSX, etc. And it is this flight model that seems to be taking a longer time. I remember reading somewhere that the flight model for the Bf-109 took about $100,000 to develop (correct me if I'm wrong).
  21. I too had this problem the first time I tried. Their chaff/flares are very effective. The second time when I knew they were coming, they got ambushed with ET's from the mountains to the north and haven't really thought about it after. I think one of the reasons is the overconfidence going into combat thinking 'they're just Su-25s and I'm in a 27, it's going to be a piece of cake'. However, since it's a 2vs4, if you get into a merge and target one, another one is bound to get on your tail and fire of an R-60, especially if your wingman is far away. My tip would be to pick them off at a fairly long range with R-27s, since they completely lack BVR capability.

The mission editor is actually very simple to use for basic missions, i.e. setting your start location and route and a basic route for the enemy/ground targets. You can also modify existing missions from single missions/campaigns and delete some enemy groups if it's too difficult for you and play from the mission builder. If there's any
