  1. I was wondering about the used route, but also kept hearing "Don't get a card used for mining!" as if there was a way to magically tell one. Or is there?
  2. I've been looking at what uses the most system resources when I play DCS, and it seems it's really my video card which is currently the bottleneck. I'll list my relevant specs: Geforce 750 TI 2gb Gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard with 16gb ram AMD 6300, 6 core, 3500mhz. 650watt PSU I've done some reading, but I'd like to hear from others who keep up with this stuff. I've read a lot of good things about the Radeon RX570 6gb card. I'm trying to stay under $200, $150 would be better and this is right in that range. My worries are I don't keep up with this kind of stuff anymore, so a) what's a good card to upgrade to, and b) can I use it with my motherboard? I think I've got plenty of headroom with the PSU, so it's a matter of being sure I have the right slot.
  3. Me too! I totally loved doing SEAD and Deep Strike missions. I forgot how you could influence the campaign by setting how you wanted the ATO to focus. I've been giving the DCE stuff a go, and while it's better than the normal campaigns, it still misses the feeling of having a live world happening and your mission having (or not having) an influence on that world. I also have a little bit of trepidation for an official DCS dynamic campaign, as I've experienced how even having a very small area of the map in use causes the framerates to plummet. I can't imagine how having a full map of flights, ground units, etc all in motion would be possible.
  4. I've been having problems with this. First is that I've been trying to complete a mission to destroy an EWR site. I've yet to make it back to base, but I destroyed the site and then shot down by a MiG. This has happened twice now, and if I choose to continue the campaign, it gives me a very quick (too quick to read) scroll in the window and exits. The same mission is then given as if it didn't happen, so it's not being recorded. This is using the latest Open Beta. Second: is probably more an issue with how things are setup. I have what seems like ZERO CAP for missions in the A10. In the mission I talked about above, I have to try to destroy the EWR, and I have no CAP even tho I'm faced with multiple MiG-29 flights. This doesn't seems realistic and makes completing the mission almost impossible.
  5. I posted a couple weeks ago about the ones I made. Not difficult if you don't mind a little drilling and such, and not expensive at less than $50 US. I have link to the parts in the post.
  6. I've run into an issue where I have to press my transit button a second time for my commands to be executed. IE: "Nellis<pause>, request startup". I get all the beeps that it's recognized, but I then have to toggle the radio again for it to show up. It's this way for all commands. It also does it on the Caucus map, and in multiplayer as well. Some info: this started happening in the A10C(only module I fly) with the Open Beta(I know the open beta was updated recently). I did also just transfer my beta to a SSD around the same time this happened. I made sure to change the path to the new folder in the VAICOM settings however. Any ideas? I did a search and found a few references in this thread of this happening before, and it seemed to be a bug with either the beta version or the module. So not sure if this is that same problem coming back or ?
  7. Why can't you use the X45 throttle with the CH Stick? I know you have to have the X45 stick plugged in, as the throttle connects thru the stick's USB. But can't you have both the X45 and the CH stick plugged in and just setup the CH stick in game?
  8. Alright, I did some testing tonight. And learned some stuff. Maybe should've known, limitations with DCS, etc. For starters, I found that declaring "Attack my target" w/o the TGP being in "POINT" mode causes a problem. Even if I make a SPI, and say "Engage my target", it doesn't matter. If the TGP is masked, then the wingman wouldn't attack. Not a problem with VAICOM. Also, not a problem: Even though VAICOM allows me to "Engage my target, with bombs", you cannot tell a wingman to engage a single target with a desired weapon. Annoying, but that's on DCS it seems. One thing that wasn't evident to me, is when calling for an attack, you can (need?) use the pauses. So: "Two" <pause> "Engage" <pause> "Tanks"-----and here I"m not sure. I couldn't find if you needed to pause again after the target call out, and then pause again for direction/weapon type? But it definitely recognized the pause after both the flight member ID and then Engage.
  9. The problem is this doesn't work. I can get a wingman to attack my target no problem using the menus (and most times just default instead of a direction). But using VAICOMM they refuse. For starters, if I just say "Two, attack my target", they acknowledge, but simply fly off somewhere until I tell them to return. I'll try something more specific, like the weapon type, next time and see how that goes. I have to tell them specifically to attack a certain target and from a certain direction for them to attack at all. ie: "Gopher <pause>, engage infantry from the south with bomb" and then I will see my message telling them to engage "at my SPI" which they acknowledge and attack.
  10. I really loved my CH Pedals. I missed an auction on Ebay where a guy's USB Fighterstick and Pro Pedals went for $7. Obviously something that won't happen anytime soon, but I really kicked myself there. But I agree, if I'm going to buy new, I would buy a TM Warthog stick. I'm still considering that, but being patient and watching some sales for awhile. And, I used to live close to CH. They are in Vista, CA which is north of San Diego. I went to their factory once when I had a problem with my stick. They fixed it on the spot for me. And yeah, they are mostly a commercial manufacturer. It's really kind of a shame they don't seem to be supporting PC much.
  11. Thanks. I think I mentioned on another thread I had a whole set of CH that I gave away because it was the old serial connections. You say you DIY'd an update, if you detailed that I'd love to read it.
  12. I have a X45 hotas, and the stick is getting done for. It's very sloppy and I need to put in a large dead zone to keep it from veering all over the place. But that's making any precision bombing almost impossible. I keep reading how the CH stick is old 8bit technology, but how does that compare to a stick like the X45? With the sloppiness of the X45, would the CH still be an upgrade? I ask, because you can find some used CH sticks here and there, and I know from owning a set decades ago how simply bulletproof they are.
  13. I've been having issues with getting my wingman to attack a target I've set a SPI for. This is A10C is that makes a difference. What I've noticed is there is no "default" cue in VAICOM for the wingman. I have to give them a direction for the attack, which isn't always preferable, and most times I just want him to attack. I should add, I have the settings both for requiring engage and the extended commands checked. Am I missing something? I looked at the command list, and don't see "default" in there.
  14. Ok, I seem to have gotten it working. I sanded the LED's but not flat. I got the idea in another forum that diffusing the light would make them more visible. What I did was sand the LED's with some sandpaper, but not flat. I do see that mentioned alot, but instead I sanded them lightly all over. This seemed to have the effect of diffusing the light and solved my problem altogether...kinda of. I still need to use them in a dark room, so I ordered a 25mm IR filter which allows 720nm wavelength and above. I've seen people stick them on the front of the PS3 camera for this purpose so I'm hoping that will solve my problem. Pic of my clip. 3D Printed, really makes a difference in constructing something durable.
  15. Thanks. I did however, just read this: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/43300-any-tips-on-removing-ir-filter-on-ps3-camera/?do=findComment&comment=733880 He states he didn't have to remove it on the type of camera I have, but used a professional camera filter instead. I'm pretty sure that I have the type of PS3 eye that has the almost impossible filter to remove, so I'm not sure what to do here. It seems ordering one online would be hit and miss as to which type of PS3 eye I would get. I've seen them already modified for sale, but they are all overseas for me being in the US, and shipping makes them very expensive. I also wanted to show this: That is the video by the Opentrack author, showing how to calibrate a headtracking clip. One thing I noticed, was that my IR's show only slightly less bright what shows on the video. But if you watch the video, when he turns his head, the IR's don't lose any of their brightness. Mine do...a lot in fact. So I'm wondering why that is and if it's something with the LED's.
